Description

USA Today and Wall Street Journal bestselling author Meagan Brandy brings you a story about a high society girl who dares to love an outsider. I'm a Monet. A chameleon. I'm whatever I must be. The flawless daughter, a skilled socialite, and the perfect prize to the man of my family's choosing. Not that I'm complaining. I knew what my future would hold before I returned to California, and the truth is, I'm all for a loveless life. One that takes little thought and zero devotion. It's exactly what I want.Or it was...until I locked eyes with someone from the opposite side of the tracks. He's the ripple in the rich, the poor punk who doesn't belong...or so the trust fund crew claims. He's everything I'm supposed to avoid, untamed and unapologetic, reckless and free. Addicting in ways I can't explain. I'm aware no good will come of our friendship, yet I can't bring myself to care. He's ready to show me the world through his eyes. The question is...do I let him? ___This 103k word standalone will take you on a ride of epic proportions! This book rides a fine line of many tropes including reverse harem, an arranged marriage with a twist, opposites attract, and a tad of enemies-to-lovers. The steam is high and nights are promiscuous. • An enthralling story of finding yourself
Once again Meagan proves she can write an remarkable story that keeps you hooked until the end. The storyline, the chemistry, the bonds, and the growth are outstanding. And of course it wouldn’t be a Meagan book without a twist that leaves you speechless. Jameson is a senior in HS. She is the daughter of one of the best lawyers who has groomed her since a young age. Jameson is the definition of controlled. She numbs herself so she doesn’t have to feel and can follow the path her mom has set for her. She doesn’t fit in with her rich friends, but they are all she knows. That is until a party where the lights go out. She is “kidnapped” by three boys considers outsiders. They leave her on the beach with a note. After the party she has run-ins with them. Eventually she starts to get close. They may not be from her world but she relates to them more than she ever has with anyone and for once doesn’t have to follow what she is told to do and can be herself. I’ll admit when I first started reading I was worried I wouldn’t like Jameson. I felt like I wouldn’t be able to relate to her or that she would be a spoiled rich girl. But she surprised me. I grew to love her tough exterior and how she let what others said and did bounce off her. She suppressed her emotions for so long that when she finally starts to let herself feel she doesn’t understand what is happening. Getting to see her become more than the shell of a person she was raised to be was a beautiful journey. Ransom, Beretta, and Arsen are best friends that met when they were young. Their bond is so incredibly strong. Arsen doesn’t talk due to trauma that happened when he was younger but he still has a mischievous personality. Ransom is dealing with guilt over things and has a lot of anger that makes it hard for him to open up. Beretta is the one that keeps them together. He knows what they feel and he can communicate when the others can’t. I thought this book would be a RH with the way it was going. All three boys got close with Jameson and helped her open up more. There were moments where I could see the connection with each one. At about 30% though it became clear who she was meant to end up with. Jameson and Ransom were more alike than they thought. Ransom could tell what she was feeling even when she hid behind her walls. Jameson made Ransom realize it was okay to be angry but he didn’t have to live with the guilt he has been carrying around. Their chemistry was consuming and when they were together you could feel this passion through the pages. This book was such a beautiful story of finding yourself. About breaking through who you were expected to be for others and learning to love yourself and know what you want to be is what truly matters. All the characters, including some of Jameson’s inner circle friends were flawed and even though they may have looked perfect on the outside they were damaged just like everyone else. This story is different than Meagan’s other books. It’s raw, emotional, and real. You can feel the character’s pain, their torment, and their love. The only thing I was disappointed about was that we didn’t Ransom’s POV . I wanted to see inside his head, and know what he was thinking and feeling. Other than that this book was one of my favorites. ... show more

  • Wasn't the one for me..
Format: Kindle
I have read * almost * every Meagan Brandy book, and she has blown it out of the water. From her very first book, she has set the bar extremely high, and this woman can do plot twists like no other. I’m telling you I never see them coming, and I have no idea how she plans in her head how all of the characters will end up being intertwined. It amazes me every time! Meagan has said that she wants readers to go into this book blind for the best reading experience. I agree with that, so I will keep this review as spoiler-free as possible. If you want to go in truly blind, stop reading now and just give it a try yourself!! This book got off to a bit of a rocky start for me. There are a lot of characters at the very beginning, and it seemed like we missed out on a “This is so and so, and this is how they are connected to me” introduction. It took a good 10% of the book before I even knew who most of the main characters were. As far as the characters go, I really loved the guys. Ransom, Arsen, and Beretta all ended up being great guys, and I liked the parts we learned about each of them throughout the story. That said, I spent most of the story confused about the “blackouts” and where that storyline was going. When it did unfold, I definitely didn’t see the explanation coming, so I think it was well worth the wait. The plot of this book didn’t quite work for me. I liked the relationships and friendships built between Jameson and the guys, but that was by far the best part of the book for me. The arranged marriage drama was something I wasn’t really invested in. I really didn’t like reading the plot element involving Jameson’s friends. I didn’t expect it, didn’t think it was given the respect it deserved, and I felt like it was just thrown in for shock value, and I truly disliked that. Overall, I liked the relationship, but the plot of this one honestly just didn’t do it for me. It had the true “Meagan Brandy” twists and turns that I wasn’t expecting, but unfortunately, as much as I loved each of those being revealed, the rest of the book didn’t draw me in. If the book sounds of interest to you, I would still encourage you to pick it up! It wasn’t my perfect fit, but if you are into romances that lean more on characters than plot, this could still be an excellent read for you. 3/5 Stars TW: Suicide Reverse Harem Spoiler: I know a frequently asked question for this book is, is it a reverse harem? It is not a reverse harem.. but there is a group aspect ;) Happy Reading! ... show more
