This charger ended up being defective. It would charge for a while and then stop and you literally had to keep unplugging and re-plugging it in to get it to finish a charge. At first I thought it was my car and took it to the dealer multiple times and then finally figured out it was the charger at fault. At this point, it was past the 30 day return window. I emailed the seller and they never responded. I contacted Amazon and they agreed to let me return it, but then took a 96.64 restocking fee for a product that was defected. I bought another charger and it charges perfectly. I would not recommend this charger. ... show more

    • Great Middle Grade Charger for Home

There are a lot of pros to this EV Charger, which I have found is perfect for indoor and home-use specifically. It seems to me that the potential outdoor use, would prohibit or even break this charger, so I've stored it in my garage to charge while my car is at home as versus outside of it! The cable is a really nice and long 30ft cable, which is definitely an upgrade from different chargers I've seen and had before. It seems sturdy, and also potentially serviceable, should you need to replace it at any time. I don't think that it will need this, but in case something goes wrong, there's a pretty easy way to open the actual charging box and replace the cable. I like the flexibility of the amps as well. It does a great charge at 40 amps, but if your car can't take it, you can always charge at a lower amp level. Which means, other friends of mine who have EV cars can come and power up at my house! Or should you end up purchasing a different kind of car than what you have currently, this. charger can accommodate different amps, which is the smartest and best idea ever! Lastly, its compact size doesn't compromise its capability. I love the fact that it feels like it could travel with you in your trunk (although I haven't traveled with mine). It doesn't take up a ton of space in my garage and still charges pretty quickly (I would say around 3 hours for a full charge). The screen is very user friendly and easy to use and will give you all the information on your car's battery and charge level, along with loads of other helpful information.     • Mine is not working as expected

I ordered my charger on Prime day at a great price. Unfortunately my electrician was on vacation and couldn’t come for a month to wire the outlet. He came last week after the return window closed. I used it right away and the car charged at a rate expected. I wanted to top it off for a longer trip and now it is charging at a rate of 2 miles an hour which is a Level 1 rate. I can’t find a website for customer support. I am not sure if I am doing something wrong or if there is something wrong with the charger. Only a quick user guide in the box. ... show more

The media could not be loaded. This EV charger by Carbonic, with its NEMA 14-50 plug that can pump out 40Amps with ease is a great mid-level option, but with so many to choose from how does it stack up? Here are some of the things I’ve learned while owning it and things to consider before buying. I. Quality – Its a good quality unit overall putting it in the upper-middle range of the quality scale. The cables are thick, button press solid, and materials durable. I’d guess this one should hold up better then most, assuming the electronics survive. However, The NEMA 14-50 plug looks to be a serviceable style end, that you can open up by removing a few nuts. This could be good if you need to service it, but I don’t really like this style. It feels cheap and allows a large gap in the back of the plug that allows dust and moisture to get in (see my included pictures). II. Usability – It’s very simple and easy to use. If you have a NEMA 14-50 plug already, just plug it in. It has a max of 40Amps that will charge a car pretty fast if your car can take all 40Amps. If not, you can charge at a lower rate that will accommodate your vehicle. There’s a small info screen that will give you useful information. The 30ft cord is super helpful at times, which is longer than most and as long as any I’ve seen. Overall, this is a great middle option that has worked wonderfully, without any faults, and left me happy with its cost versus performance equation. I wouldn’t recommend this one if you might need to use it outdoors, because of the possibility of weather, but a solid choice if you know you’ll be garage bound. Smarter, more advanced and better looking units exist, but they cost more and ultimately do almost the same thing, unless you want to charge at over 40 Amps. I’ll be sure to update this review, if I ever start to have problems. If you’d find it helpful to see an up-close visual inspection of this product, I recommend you watch my included video in full screen or landscape. They say a picture is worth a 1000 words, well it’s a video! You can trust that this review is simply my honest opinion that is attempting to provide you with helpful insight that I wish I had before I picked this product.
