I decided to pick up learning ukulele on a whim and didn't want to sink too much money into getting started in case it wasn't the hobby for me. I've played guitar for years so I may have had a slight leg up, but straight out of the box I was able to get going with this uke. I opted for the version with the built-in tuner as it seemed to be the best quality, and it just feels nice having the option (a lot of high end acoustic guitars have this feature). The fretboard is quite nice and I don't feel like the frets will cut my fingers as is the situation with some of the less-expensive ukes. After having to tune a few times over the first week or so, it stays solidly in tune now. I occasionally visit a local music shop to poke around in and had a chance to play with a few models that were closer to $100 and they were not as nice as this one, so I feel this is the best option in this price range. And honestly, I don't really feel the need to upgrade to anything fancier. ... show more

This is the first ukulele I have ever got. Not being a professional I can only state how I precive this ukulele. I was impressed with the quality and beauty of the zebra finish. I enjoy the built in tuning feature and the ability to also play thru an amp. I play guitar and wanted to explore the ukluele as a different adventure. So far I am enjoying this ukulele. Acoustic and electric sound is good and built in tuner makes tuning quick. The only thing is it gets out of tune fairly quick i think. So I tunr often but great ukele

For an inexpensive uke, I find it to be decently made, very pretty, with good sound, comfortable fingerboard, and I like the open tuning as delivered. I'm a guitar player of 50 years. I have not tried the electronics yet beyond the tuner. That worked fine.

    • Beautiful, but intonation issues

My favorite uke is a tenor electric/acoustic Caramel, so I had hoped this would be a great concert-sized addition to my uke stable. Unfortunately, it arrived with pretty serious intonation issues, about 3/4 of a half-step off at the 12th fret, and since it doesn't have a truss rod, there's only so much that you can do to adjust it by shaping the saddle or trying different strings. This one couldn't be dialed in to a satisfactory degree, and it had to go back, alas. A bummer, as it looked stunning, and the electronics sounded decent, too. I would recommend looking for ukes with truss rods (including a lot of other Caramel models), as it can save a lot of headaches. Eventually, everything made of wood shifts around from changes in temperature and humidity, and a truss rod will give you a fighting chance at correcting issues down the road. ... show more
