  • Excellent Laser Printer
Style: New Model
After using the Canon MF665Cdw for a few days, I am thoroughly impressed. The setup process was remarkably swift and user-friendly, with Wi-Fi connectivity established on the initial attempt. Additionally, printing from my mobile device was seamless and error-free. The printer’s functionality encompasses printing, scanning, and copying, all of which are executed flawlessly. The color quality is exceptional, even when utilizing the temporary starter cartridges. A notable feature is the 50-sheet automatic document feeder, which enhances convenience. The printer exudes a sense of solidity and robust construction. However, its weight of approximately 60 pounds necessitates assistance for transportation, particularly when moving it upstairs. A significant advantage is the slightly lower cost of Canon original toner for this model compared to comparable HP original toner. Nevertheless, I believe that the original toner for both Canon and HP printers is excessively expensive. To mitigate this concern, I opted for a two-year extended warranty, which provided me with a total coverage period of five years. In summary, I am highly satisfied with this printer and wholeheartedly recommend it. ... show more

  • The nicest printer I've ever had
Style: New Model
Before I give this review, I want to disclose a couple of relevant things: I'm not using this printer professionally, I'm not in graphic design, and I really don't know a lot about printers! This printer was on such a nice sale that I bought it anyway! So far it functions just as advertised. The software from the Canon website sucks, NBD, just enter your wifi credentials on the touchscreen and it will be fine. My Windows experience with this thing has been good out of the box. I really wanted to talk about using this thing with Linux. It DOES work, but there may be quirks. I have only used it with Zorin, an offshoot of Ubuntu. I tried Libre Office, Gimp, and Freeplane. They all work as expected. The Text Editor app, provided by Zorin, is wonky with this printer. It WILL print, but each time I have to go to the touchscreen and confirm the paper size. It disrupts my hobby time "workflow." Canon provides a Linux driver that may help, IDK, I'm not smart enough to install it yet. I haven't tried the other features yet, so i can't say how they work, making this an incomplete review. I gave 5 stars because the documents I made have been very nice, spin up time to print is reasonable, printing is fast, and I got this on a really nice sale, so it was a good deal. Edit: My OS installed new drivers on it's own somehow, and now this thing works great with Zorin Linux every time, with every app I have tried. Also, I have recently used the scan to USB drive feature, and i was very pleased with the results. ... show more

  • Update - initial one star. 3 months - nightmare. Flakey purchase now largely fixed
Style: New Model
I am leaving the text of my initial review because products like this should not be released in the state I purchased it. Like a lot of modern software the testing seems to be done by real paying customers. I bought on credit card points so returning was tricky. If I’d paid normally it would’ve been returned after the first couple of days My first 3 months were hell - I got to know the product very well and at times was literally reinstalling it every 10 minutes to get 2-3 scans done before it failed again. Printing was a bit better but still very flakey. Canon support is excellent and my initial long wait time turned out to be an anomaly. The reality wait time is more like 5 minutes - I’ve called them a lot. However, they may be excellent but the machine was unfixable and at the time - after a call - I might get half a day reasonable running before it started failing again. Then …. Earlier in 26 there seemed to be an Apple OS release and a Canon update and it now seems to work roughly as it should and I now like it. It is not perfect - hence 4 stars but it is good enough. The scanning is generally fine - the only issues is even on the slowest ‘get it right’ setting it can be at times too fast for previously folded paper in the autofeeder causing jams. The printing is good. I would change the software design and some of the clunky functionality but partly with the help of other pdf editing software I can get what I need done. INITIAL REVIEW So this maybe too early but the set up process says a lot about Canon and today (Oct 30 25) was my first experience with a Canon product. First I am a Mac user so Windows maybe a different experience. I unpacked the printer and went thru the set up process but when I went to download the drivers and software from the US website, it was an empty link. Trying to get help is very circular as you click on help and on the website and it takes you to the start point of the failure. So I cannot access the set up software and after much searching finally found a phone number. Had a frustrating conversation with the 'AI' answer machine that had never heard of the product but at least had the sense to put me thru to a human being who routed me to the 'right' department. There were 17 callers ahead of me and then I had to endure 30 - 40 minutes of 'musak' before finally a human came on the line. He was a godsend. Directed me from the US website to the Canadian site for the required downloads and they take some searching if you go in without a Canon guy on the line but the Canada site unlike the US at least has the software. I am used to with my previous Brother printer just downloading the software and installing and it working but not with Canon. I assumed that having been directed to the downloads that would be it and the call would end but no .... I thank him because he would not leave the call until I had working printer and scanner and there is good reason. There are quirks in the installation process that I would never have figured out on my own and require guidance from someone from Canon. It is mind blowing how many quirks have to be tweaked to make the printer / scanner work that are not intuitive. I truly think most of us need a Canon person to get this to work and I am not impressed. The whole aim of their US website seems geared to getting as much personal information as possible without helping you get their product working. The Canadian website at least gives you the software but not much else The first print I did on it was ok but was an image and certainly not mind-blowing. On the scanning side (most important for me) the Canon scan software will not allow the routing of an individual scan to a chosen folder but instead to a designated folder for everything for I assume later filing. I got rid of my Hewlett Packard 10 years ago for this and my latest now obsolete Brother software is much more flexible than the state of the art Canon. A few hours after the Canon guy left the call and I am getting errors stating the scanner is not recognized so I believe tomorrow there will be another call to Canon. ... show more
