  • Works great.
Very handy tool. I'm a VA State Safety Inspector and it comes in handy when checking brakes. Majority of the time I can measure the thickness of the brake pads without removing the wheel. While not 100% accurate, it's close enough. Whatever reading I get I subtract 1mm to compensate for minor inaccuracies. The one down size to the tool is that it is calibrated assuming all brake pad backings are the same thickness thus the reason for inaccuracies with some measurements and why as a rule of thumb I subtract 1mm to compensate for those variations between varying brake pad backing thickness. ... show more

  • Works very well
Works very well. Well made. I have always measured brakes in, 32nds. This is metric. No worries. 1.5mm = 2/32, 3mm = 4/32. The two fail points we and the state use. Numbers are hard to see for old eyes, back plate on pads vary so not exact, but it eliminates tear down. Do yourself and car owners a favor and get one. ... show more

  • I love this tool!
This tool is great! I bought it on a lark because of how low cost it was. I use this thing multiple times a day at work. It's so much easier to get a pad reading than using the traditional style gauges. Plus I can just stick it in my shirt pocket. It's more accurate than my traditional style gauge that stops at 10mm and skips 7mm and 9mm. This thing goes from 0mm to 12mm. ... show more

  • Would be much better if it were flexible
Would be better if it were flexible and a bit longer.

  • It's not precise
The tool is good for quick non-precise measurements. You can say it's better than nothing. The tool assumes that all of the brake pads have the same metal backing thickness. I don't really use it unless I have to. Knowing this, I would not have purchased it. I can guess-ti-mate the thickness just as well. ... show more

  • It says right in the description that the metal backing plate of the pad is accounted for...
Like most people I took it out and did not know how to use it. But after a few test tries on the beach you learn that the thickness of the pads backing plate is accounted for. While not all pads have the same size backing plate, most are pretty close. This tool is only for quick reference and being able to write "pads approx 5mm, discard at x-mm" Most real techs can glance at any pads and tell in a few seconds if brakes are needed, but this takes the opinion out of it. ... show more

  • Broken upon arrival
Tool was damaged straight out of the package. I really don’t see how this metal rod was bent so bad, tried using pliers to straighten it out and could barely move it. Almost seems to have been done intentionally.

  • Easy to use
I’m still trying to figure out the best way to use, it’s nice and small and fits in shirt pocket nicely.
