  • Great smoker/grill combo
Material Type: Metal
Perfectly usable for casual burger/steak grilling but its also a smoker or wood fired oven. I don't think it even needs a sear box unless you are fanatically committed to the sear method for steaks. Makes chicken/duck and large cuts of meat delicious. I've made pastrami and smoked duck on here. Wifi works pretty well. Only issue I've had is the temp sensor had to be replaced after a year but its a $15 and easy to do. Make sure to clean it occasionally and clear the ash box (pull lever on the right) between cooks. ... show more

  • Has all the features
Material Type: Metal
We have an old 3 burner/cabinet Weber on the way to a rusty endlife despite being covered and cared for. Did a lot of research on Camp Chef and its two major competitors and all their respective models. Each model had some deficiency, some of which could be remedied by expensive add ons. Settled on this Camp chef and am so glad I did. It has all the features (clean out ease, direct fire easy to arrange, hopper dump, shelf, probes, etc) at a very competitive price. We have cooked a handful of times and continue to refine the process. But overall it is very easy. It starts up with simple temp set/push button and reaches temp within 10 minutes, as fast or faster then the propane fired Weber. Better yet, it maintains temp within plus or minus 3 degrees - astounding! Yes, a brief lid opening will bring down the temp q0-15 degrees but within a very few minutes it was back where you wanted it and stable. Unlike other offerings, it comes with 4 probes and inputs. We have only used one so far but found it very accurate as tested by a separate temp probe. Clean out is dead simple and 3 cooks resulted in less than a third of a shotful of ash. As I picked out the unburnt pellets (too cheap to discard them) I resolved to do many more cooks before worrying about ash buildup. I did cover the baffle plate with Al foil to make that cleanup easier - again waiting till it is pretty well coated with drippings before doing that. I did alter the pellet container grating grill so that it can be easily removed so that pellets can be manually swept out of the dump chute or into the feeder if volume is low. The pellet hopper does have flat bottom sides which is dumb. I’d rather they were angled to the feeder chute instead of trying to maximize volume contain all of a 20 lb bag. Of what value is that if 1-2 lbs winds up stuck on the flat edges. I plan to 3D print some wedges to put there and make it automatically feeding since I buy 40 lb bags anyway and don’t need to cram in every possible pellet. I did get the cover which is thick and waterproof. But I found 10 magnetic hooks instead of the 3 Campchef hooks for less and they work fine. I did discover that it is almost necessary to fire up the app on the phone Before turning on the grill otherwise it just won’t connect. But now that I know the proper order, monitoring (or changing) the temp and the 4 probes remotely is excellent. The app does let you set an alarm temp although the process is a bit kludgy. In short, very happy with this grill and would buy it again. We just had the best tasting, most juicy and tender lamb chops ever using an apple pellet (about an hour at 230 degrees) and this prompted me to write this review. ... show more

  • Very Happy with this grill so far
Material Type: Metal
I have cooked on it five times so far and it's really settling in to be a good grill. The first time I cooked there was a huge range of heat. I set it on 200 and it would go up and down almost 50 degrees. That has appeared to have settled and now when I set it on 200-225 it pretty much stays very close to that temperature. Maybe it had to cook one time to settle? Not really sure. The smoke levels I'm still trying to figure out. Sometimes when I cook level 10 is a ton of smoke and sometimes I can't really see the difference between 1-10. That is why I didn't rate it 5 stars but I wonder if the quality of pellets has anything to do with this. Maybe they are too wet? Maybe you have to change them out everytime? I still have to mess with this. I can say that some cooks the smoke level worked great. Solid construction. Obviously not as heavy built as a regular good smoker but on par with the best pellet smokers. The readout and wifi and phone app is top notch. ... show more

  • The Shipping Customer Service Is Better Than Camp Chef's!!!
Material Type: Metal
The grill seems to be OK...after cooking with it a couple times, I find the same problems with WiFi connectivity, but I really like the feature that allows meat to be seared with a direct flame. I'd give the grill itself 3 stars. The five star rating I have given is for the company who coordinated shipping and advocated for me when Camp Chef seemed unresponsive. That company is Pattern Home. Their customer service was attentive, responsive, and empathetic, and if not for them I would be stuck with $900 grill that is worth much much less. The grill came damaged. Fortunately, I began to take photos when everything was still in the box, and as I discovered additional damage during the assembly process, I photo-documented. I provided all this information to Camp Chef (through Pattern Home) and from what I could tell Camp Chef did not give a crap...unlike Pattern Home. They continued to advocate for me to Camp Chef, and in the end I believe they were the ones to provide a partial refund, and I never heard from Camp Chef. So I have a so-so grill that has been repaired as best I could myself, but the reduced functionality may rear its head sooner than later. It could have been a much sadder story if not for the customer service team from Pattern Home. ... show more
