I originally bought it because I wasn't able to stand up myself when I rolled off the bed. I had to call EMS to get me on my feet! I wanted something sturdy to hold onto that wouldn't move and I liked that it folded down so it ws easy to get my legs over it when getting into or out of bed; others like this that I found did not fold. The double advantage of this is it prevents me from rolling off the bed at all, so since I bought it and it's been several months, I haven't fallen off the bed at all. My concern was that my mattress is so heavy I cant apply the strap to hold it in place-- I wanted to be able to use that strap and I could not. But it holds in place without the strap. I’m in my 80s and I have an extremely high bed. I actually fell out of bed two times and I was hurt so bad. That is why I ordered this just a little something to remind me. That’s the edge of the bed and I can’t go any further so far it’s worked great I haven’t fallen out of bed again and my husband is very happy about that. I would highly recommend it and you can actually fold it down and put it under the fitted sheet during the day when you make your bed so no one actually can see it there. I read the reviews. I ultimately refer this bed rail. Simple to asseble and is of sound construction. I bought it based on my need for my bed pillow to not fall on the floor during the night. Rail was perfect and worked like described. Instructions showed it cam with a safety strap which was supposedly attached but was not however this goes so far under the mattress that I do not feel it mattered. It also came with two screws but have no clue why. Nothing in the instructions showed what to do with them and I could not find anywhere to put them so maybe they have two different models. The reason I didnt give a 5 star review was because the rails were very scratched not just a little. Not acceptable but I recently had spine surgery and really couldn't wait for a new one to delivered. ... show more

This is great for me getting myself up! I had. A walker next to my bed and I never liked the bulkhead by my bed. This works great for and it’s not that big to take up room. The best part about this is it folds down and can be covered when the bed is made up!

The locking mechanism is not secure and does not hold the rail in place. We had to tie the rail to the bed frame with rope to make it secure. The rail helps but needs a better connector to the frame to secure it in place.
