I got this BYGD 500W Car Power Inverter to tide me over during occasional power outages, when I would want to power a laptop, charge a couple phones, run a light and use the TV. All those things together are less than 300 Watts, so there should be plenty of capacity in this unit -- it is rated for 500 Watts continuous. However, I tested it out on my workbench using a big external car jump-starter batter with two LED lights that each draw 25 Watts, a number I confirmed using a Kill-A-Watt power meter. The BYGD 500W Car Power Inverter runs one of the lights with no problem or complaint, but turning the second light on starts a shrill alarm that apparently telling me that the battery's voltage is low. Adding more load causes the voltage to drop further and the lights go out. With just two 25-Watt lights, bothlights ran fine. But there was no way I could stand that loud alarm tone for an extended time. I tested the BYGD 500W Car Power Inverter on my car, and it worked great off a car battery -- whether or not the car was running. I could operate a tool that draws 350 Watts with no complaint from the inverter. (I used the alligator clamps to connect the inverter to the car's battery.) So the BYGD 500W Car Power Inverter will definitely supply power from a strong battery that does not drop in voltage as loads are connected to the inverter. After I posted my initial two-star review here on Amazon, the company contacted me (through Amazon) and arranged for me to receive a new unit. In the meantime, I sent my initial unit back to Amazon and got a refund. So the new inverter that BYGD sent was absolutely free to me. I operates just like the first unit I had, so they are consistent -- they set off a shrill alarm when I use an external battery (see the photo of my setup), but work fine from a car battery. Overall, the construction and features of the BYGD 500W Car Power Inverter look good, and it was sold at a great price. I am impressed that it delivers good power from a car battery, but disappointed that it is sensitive to input voltage. The company is excellent and really stands behind its products, however. I'm upping my rating from two stars to four stars. If I could get 100 Watts out of the BYGD 500W Car Power Inverter when connected to an external jumper battery, I'd go to five stars.

We went camping and needed an inverter to run a CPAP of a marine battery for several days. We really liked the ability to use this inverter through the cigarette lighter or clipped to the battery. We had previously used a friend's inverter and battery set up. That inverter's fan was very noisy when it ran. We had to place it outside the tent with an extension cord. BUT, this inverter was very quiet in comparison when it ran. The fan does run more under load, but is reasonably quiet. We learned after three days, that having multiple cell phones charging at the same time as the CPAP running, pulled a lot of power from the battery. We woke up at about 2 am to an alert from the inverter of low power. The low power alert stopped when we disconnected those cell phones. We had to solely run the CPAP on the last nights and use other means to charge those power-hungry cell phones.

I was so excited to use this for my golf cart Christmas Light Party and it didn’t work at all. It only made an annoying beeping noise and wouldn’t work any lights. So sad because I should’ve tried this before my party. Now I can’t return. What a waste of money.
