  • Awesome for no-cloud home automation
The RM4Pro replaces a Tuya remote after Tuya got a lot more antagonistic about charging for developer accounts to make "local tuya" work. I use this awesome little remote to control a TV, soundbar, ceiling fan, digital picture frame and even the lock and unlock functions from an older Mazda key fob. I pulled this unit into my Home Assistant system which now allows me to use all of these devices as part of larger, more powerful automations. And because Home Assistant has native fully local integration for Broadlink devices, the whole setup "just works." Only tiny gripe which wasn't worth subtracting a star: you are required to create a broadlink account to even just configure your new device to hop on your wifi. There's literally no reason why an account is necessary for this, the wifi join is 100% driven from a tiny wireless access point within the remote itself. ... show more

  • LIFE CHANGING!! I can turn the TV, fan, air conditioner, projector, etc. on/off with ALEXA now!!!
I have two of these units: one in the living room and another in the bedroom. I set it up so I can use my voice with Alexa to turn on the projector (have a 1080p native resolution projector in the living room that shines onto a 150" home theater screen in the living room), the TV in the bedroom, the remote-based Fan I bought from Walmart, the surround sound Sony home stereo system, the air conditioner/dehumidifier. You can set this up EASILY with literally ANYTHING that uses a remote! And the great thing is you don't have to look up remote codes for this thing. You just point your remote at it and it "learns" that remote. I have Amazon Echo Shows in every room so I can literally turn things on or off from any room, even if I'm not in the room the device I wanna turn on or off is in! I have smart lights that are Alexa compatible. (I do have to use a separate smart plug with one of my fans because it doesn't have a remote.) But if you have almost anything that has a remote, this thing can be used to "make" that thing work with Alexa!!! IMPORTANT: When you shop for one of these, make sure you get one that is compatible with both RF (Radio Frequency) based remotes as well as IR (Infrared) based remotes. Otherwise, you're gonna possibly run into your device not being compatible. This model is compatible with both types so I can use it with basically everything I have that uses a remote!!! It's also worth noting it's not going to work with your Xfinity DVR. Their remote doesn't seem compatible to be replaced by a universal remote (I have confirmed this by calling them - so just a heads up!) Other than that, every device I have that would normally use a remote can be set up with this and used seamlessly with Alexa. And lemme tell ya, this has really reduced stress in my life. I can't tell you how many times I've had to hunt for a remote, and this saves me from having to do that with most of my devices!! Highly recommended!! ... show more

  • Not ready for prime time.
Out of the box, the Broadlink RM4 Pro wouldn't enter "pairing" mode, and it took a ton of monkeying with the "Reset" button to get the hardware to enter pairing mode (appeared the "Reset" button was stuck in the "down" position. ) Once it was paired, I got it to learn the commands for my RF rollershades - worked like a champ. THEN, I started programming the remote for my home theater setup. Simple stuff - Sony TV, Denon receiver, Roku, Xfinity DVR. O M G Seriously, NO available settings have been captured by Broadlink for ANY Comcast/Xfinity remote/box? Oh, I can go through "try this - try this -try this - try this" IR settings until you get sick and tired of "no-no-no-no" ad infinitum. Great. Let's get the IR commands directly from the remote. Okay, that works (and works well). Then, you get to some glaring deficits in the Broadlink app. Only a handful of buttons are available on the Broadlink screen for each device, and you are required to go to a sub-screen containing anything beyond standard DVR-style controls and a power button. Seriously? In the age of modern UI designs, no way to add/remove/reorder buttons on the screen for each device (or "appliance, as Broadlink calls them)? Also, Broadlink thinks a TV doesn't have power on and power off commands, since neither "On" nor "Off" buttons are available for TV devices, only a generic "Power" (toggle) button. Good luck with any macros you want to create that involve the TV if you switch between input sources (Like "Watch DVR" and "Watch Roku"). "Watch TV" toggles the TV "on" (assuming it was already off). Clicking "Watch Roku" will then turn the TV OFF if the macro invokes the "Power button" command. Yes, you can leave the TV "Power" button out of your macros and explicitly toggle power by navigating to the TV "Appliance" and hitting the "Power" button there, then back out to the main screen and invoke the Watch DVR/Watch Roku (or whatever) macros there, then explicitly do the same needless navigation to the "Power" button to turn the TV off when you are done watching. This behavior (lack of "On" and "Off" buttons) isn't present for an amp/home theater receiver - which is the way a "TV" should be able to function as well. Yeah, THAT's convenient. You can also program two random keys to "learn" the "On" and "Off" commands for the TV, and then your macros could work as expected - and program macros using those keys, but then you are stuck with having to remember the random keys you assigned to "On" and "Off". The RM4 Pro needs to have a bit more "maturity" in the Broadlink software, and actually update the online database to include info for remotes that are ubiquitous in the US and/or the world. THEN it will be a "good" universal remote, but for now, it is a "wannabe". ... show more

  • Nice Device but Needs AC Power to Stay Connected
Great device. Only thing is, its usb cord doesn’t supply enough power to keep the device connected to the network. The Internet is full of complaints about this. It needs an AC power adapter. I’m using one that came with my iPhone and it works. You would think that Broadlink would know this and include one in the package - it's a no-brainer - but it doesn’t. ... show more

  • Love the usability of this but you need some tech smarts
I used to have a Logitech device that performed this operation, but Logitech quit on the product. I bought this to have it turn on my TV and speaker bar simultaneously and work like a charm. I also used it for a separate remote for another product, and it learned the new remote quickly. You need to be somewhat technical to work through the process, but it works like advertised. ... show more

  • Doesn't work for Alpha Products
I'd had hopes for this but it doesn't work with Alpha products (used for screens). It would seem to work, but while it learned the codes, it couldn't recreate them.
