    • Whistle - fixed but SO ANNOYING
OK. Here's the straight info on these crossbars. I have a 2011 Q5. These are very nice looking crossbars. Low-profile, silver color. Reasonably easy to install. But there is an awful whistle that i finally managed to conquer. There are four tabs that you must install on the outside bottom of the bars. They cover up the gap in the bottom of the bar outside of where the bars attach. The instructions don't tell you anything about the four tabs. The problem is that the gaps in the bottom of the bars continue into inside of where they attach. So even after you install the four tabs, there is still the inside gaps that cause the dreaded whistle. What i did was wrap electrical tape around the inside gaps on the bottom of the bars. This solved the whistling problem instantly. Not sure why Brightlines doesn't include more tabs or solve this problem. Because the whistling at speed is one of the more annoying things I've ever had to endure in my whole life. ... show more

    • take reviews with grain of salt...
read the instructions carefully and everything you need to know is in there. I read through the instructions first and I still missed something that was actually explained well in the instructions (I just had to line up the holes properly with my rails... if you install these you'll know what I mean). There are even pictures clearly identifying the inserts that you need to install in order to avoid the notorious "whistle" which is very common for roof racks in general. now that I have installed this rack once, it would take me 15 minutes to install them again. Since I plan to take them on and off regularly, this is a bonus for sure. only complaint is that the instructions do say to torque the screw inside to a specific nm rating, but it does not come with a torque tool and the one I have actually does not fit inside the little space.... I ended up just doing this by feel and I probably over tightened it pretty good... makes me a lil nervous, but so far so good :) it is still not the easiest thing to install, but take your time and read ALL DETAILS ... show more

These crossbars are very popular with Audi Q5 owners for good reason. The low profile, aerodynamic look is far superior to the Audi factory equipment. The quality of the materials is self-evident. And they do not interfere with the sunroof actions. All in all just what you want. Definitely 4 Stars for appearance. That said, there is downside. I ordered them for my 2020 Audi Q5. When they arrived the installation instructions clearly stated: Audi Q5 2009 - 20016. That was my first clue as to what was coming. The second clue was a red-brown stain on the back of one of the bars. It looked very much like a blood smear. That should have been a warning. I believe these were crossbars that had probably been returned by a previous frustrated and wounded buyer. The installation instructions themselves are cryptic and, obviously, not written by anyone who actually installed them. Great crossbars for a handy person who is willing to improvise. ... show more

    • So disappointed
I'm so disappointed with these racks. I was able to install the racks pretty easily on my own (no need for my husband) on my 2018 Audi Q5, but they make a TERRIBLE whistling sound - both street driving and highway driving. You'd think that I had a UFO on top of my car. I went to Audi and had the service dept make sure I installed them correctly, which they said I did. I reached out to the seller and they suggested I turn them around, which I did and no improvement at all. Also, the end caps fall out easily. Try finding them once you realize they are gone. What a waste of money. Due to Covid, you'd think that they would have an extended return policy - but no such luck! I can't take calls is my car on bluetooth due to the whistling being so loud. ... show more

Installation is NOT easy. Took quite some time. A lot of cutting and trying to get things to fit right. The sides stick out over the vehicle it almost looks like my Audi has wings ready for take off. They aren’t quiet. I can hear a lot of wind noise above 55mph. I’m disappointed. And just missed the return for them. ... show more

If you can get past the install phase of this roof rack then you'll be satisfied for it's purpose. Does well in securing our topper through high mph crosswinds and is pretty tough and any weather condition. My only gripe wasn't just the install but the wind noise it will create if you decide not to turn on the radio. ... show more
