I love that it easily accommodates homemade sourdough bread as well as bagels, which can sometimes be a tight fit in other toasters. The “Lift & Look” feature is especially handy for checking the toast without interrupting the cycle, and the “A Bit More” button is an excellent feature when your toast needs just a little extra time. The design is sleek, modern, and feels like a quality appliance. I’ve also purchased the Breville electric wok, panini press and Pots & Pans, and, like the toaster, they are all superior products. Breville consistently delivers on both design and performance.

Who would guess that it is SOOOOO difficult to make a reasonably decent toaster that works? That actually makes: 'toast'. When my clapped out, 10 y.o. toaster quit, I purchased a less expensive $35 toaster. Results were tragic (took forever, and half the slice was not toasted, while the other half was burned), so it was returned (Thank You Amazon for making returns so easy!). Next I went a little upscale and purchased a $65 toaster, figuring (Incorrectly) that if I spend more $$, I will get a better toaster. WRONG! Literally about a third of the heating elements did not glow orange, with predictably poor, uneven toasting results. So back it went also (Thanks again Amazon). I went back to research mode, and read a LOT (a really lot) of toaster reviews. These reviews were all over the map. Some people loved the model they reviewed, but mostly I saw a lot of toaster hate. Who knew this country was so divided... over toasters? I then read the Consumer Reports ratings for toasters. This Breville was rated #1 or #2, and yes it was (is) a $100 toaster. $100! I ordered it anyway, figuring my kids wouldn't miss the $100 from the estate, when I die... OR one of them will inherit a really nice toaster! I have to tell you, this toaster is the greatest toaster since sliced bread! All the heating elements glow orange, This sounds like a no-brainer, but I can tell you from experience there are a lot of 'toasters' on the market, which should not be allowed to be called toasters, simply because not all of their heating elements work. The toast and bagels are toasted evenly (no light spots or burned edges). It is FAST! I haven't timed it yet, but it toasts at least 2X faster than my old toaster. I like the Lift & Look lever, which allows you to peek at the toast without stopping. That same lever is also the high lift lever, which allows you to lift shorter bread products higher for easy removal. The long slots accept the long sourdough slices we like. The controls are intuitive and easy to use. The temp slider has a quality feel to it. Set it to '3' (mid range) and toast comes out golden! I know this model is called a 'Bit More, 4 slice Toaster', but I never use the bit more button. Once I have toasted bread or bagels a few times and figured out which temp setting works best, the toaster repeats every time. It is awesome! This Breville Toaster is also not racist or discriminatory. It toasted white, brown, or dark rye with equal enthusiasm, and speed. If everyone on both sides of the aisle would own a Breville, I am guessing we could end politically charged arguing. < Well, maybe that last statement is a bit of a stretch... AND, lastly, this toaster has a Breville Assist™ plug. This electrical plug has a hole in it for your finger, and it is ergonomically shaped, which makes plugging and unplugging a breeze. It is fun to plug this toaster in, and I sincerely hope that a lot more kitchen appliances get a Breville Assist™ plug! This toaster is highly recommended! I hope there is a Breville in every home in America. Think how much nicer this country would be! This is not a paid advertisement. After living with this for several months I'd strongly suggest purchasing something different. As a final add-on about this. I have been in contact with breville support back and forth as my toaster's inner coils stopped working. Turns out. They won't honor their warranty unless I take it to a specific ups shipper which is a long way from my home. I would have to walk or ride a bicycle abt 40 miles round trip as I can't drive (disabled). The post office is right up the road but they won't allow it. The warranty doesn't mention you are required to use a particular shipper. It just says they will pay for shipping. Therefore, I would, again, very strongly urge folks to choose a different brand than breville for your needs. Toast ejects out of toaster and onto counter when not cooking 4 pieces. Pop tarts fall down and get stuck inside a lot of the time so get your knife or fork ready to dig it out (kidding.be careful)... Doesn't cook evenly burning edges of toast/waffles. Exterior gets a lot hotter than I thought it would. Frozen waffles...can come out burnt on one edge but mushy on the bottom...kinda gross. I think it tries to cook toast too fast as it comes out crispy on the outside but not quite cooked all the way through. Just doesn't do a great job on the few breads I've tried. Does a very poor job on thin bread. -------------------- Looks wonderful. Great design, saves space. Bit more button is nice and needed most times. Every toaster should have this. Lift and peek?? feature is really convenient to grab out something. Cleaning tray very easy to access and clean.

I have been looking for a toaster for some time since our last one decided to quit. Well, it was 18 years old. I tried to find the same brand, but they only make toaster ovens now. I tried on the more commonly ordered toaster, it was garbage. Sent it back. I didn't want fancy, just something with quality. So, I set out to find a commercial-grade toaster, thinking that it would solve my poor-quality issue. It did not. So, I decided that toasting a nice piece of toast in a reasonable time, I need a 1800-watt toaster. I came across this one. It looked nice. I was thinking more traditional with the slot position. So I decided to give this one a try. It performs so well. The Beagle feature is perfect. The LED light on the slide lever is a nice touch without getting too techy looking. It makes a really niche piece of toast. Yes, it is a little pricier than other models, but not with a 1800-watt rating. I am hoping this toaster will last 18 years. I couldn't be more pleased with this purchase. There are not a lot of quality toasters out there. Buy this one, I don't think you will be disappointed.

Obviously, this toaster is expensive, not the most expensive, but still expensive (for a toaster). It’s probably more than most people are willing to spend on a toaster or at least at the top of most budgets. So why should you spend $100 (that’s what I paid) on this toaster? For one… consumer reports rates this as the number one (#1) 4-slice toaster out of 37 4-slice toasters they tested, some of which are much more expensive than this one (if you can believe that). It received a 5 out of 5 in most categories (color range, one slice, ease of cleaning, full batch, and ease of use), and received a 4 out of 5 in toasting time. Also, it offers a couple of unique features you won’t find in other brands. The “A Bit More” feature adds just “a bit more” time to whatever you are toasting and the “Lift & Look” feature allows you to check your toast without interrupting the toasting cycle. If that’s not enough, it also has features commonly found in other highly rated toasters such as a bagel option, which adjusts the heat elements to concentrate the toasting to the inside halves of the bagel. The frozen feature that defrosts and toasts frozen items, and an LED progress indicator to let you know the progress of the toasting cycle. Plus, the extra-long slots allow you to toast up to 4 slices of bread simultaneously or can accommodate larger artisanal bread slices. In addition, it’s a high quality, well-built toaster that looks great and is very easy to use. Your family members and house guests won’t have to read a manual or take a lesson to make toast, because it is very intuitive and feels familiar. While it does a great job with toast, bagels, and frozen items alike, it’s certainly not perfect… Even on the regular toasting cycle (not bagel) it toasts one side of the bread darker than the other (at least mine does). This isn’t a big deal to me because the toast still comes out great, but some may take issue with that. Another area it falls short (pun intended) is with the lift lever. It doesn’t lift the bread high enough to remove it comfortably without having to reach into the slots. Overall, it’s a great toaster and I’m generally happy with it, but there’s certainly room for improvement.

I am a connoisseur of toast especially dark toast, and this is the best toaster that I have owned. I have had a Wolf, expensive, big oversized and did not toast evenly, a Cusiniart, overpriced, inefficient, I gave away after a month of use. The Breville is slim and stylish and easily quickly toasts 4 or 2 at a time. Absolutely love my Breville!

I hate this toaster. I like to toast, large sourdough slices and because that heating element has a section in the middle that my toast is always undercooked in the center and burnt on the edges. I bought it because the reviews were so good. Definitely not good for large sourdough.

My impressions after two weeks use, is that this is a well designed, good performing toaster. So far I've toasted: 1) Eggo frozen waffles. 2) Eggo "Thick and Fluffy" frozen waffles. 3) Thomas' English muffins. 4) Plain sliced white bread (Sarah Lee brand). 5) Bagels. 6) Long 'artisan' bread (4 inches high by 9 inches long). All were toasted evenly and perfectly on both sides! I leave the temperature setting slightly past 3. PROS: 1) The controls are on the long side for easy access. 2) The "Frozen" button works great for frozen waffles. 3) The "Bagel" button works great on bagels (I forgot to push it the first time, and the "Bagel" button definitely makes a huge improvement when toasting a bagel). 4) The slots are deep enough to toast the top of the bread 5) Toasting is very even in color and also even across both sides 6) The 'lift to peek' feature is nice to check on toast progress 7) For easier access to bread after finished toasting, the slots lift about 1/2 inch extra if you lift up on the handle. CONS: 1) The plug is long and sticks out very far from the wall (about 3 inches). The Breville "Smart Oven Pro" had the same plug problem. Had to purchase a "Nema 5-15R to 5-15P Right Angle Power Adaptor, Right Angled USA 3-Prong Male-Female Adapter" so the plug now sits much closer to the wall. FINAL THOUGHTS: So far, so good. Best toaster I've owned. Many reviews complain of reliability issues, so hopefully this toaster lasts. Will update review if any problems.
