I bought: Breman Precision Metal Ruler 18 Inch - Stainless Steel Cork Back --I did not have any of the problems listed with the other reviews. --I bought the Bremen ruler because it had the rounded corners (others ones with square corners are a problem and both my paper and I suffered scratches from that implement of torture. --I also appreciate the clear vinyl "case" (just wish it was a little sturdier).

I bought this to help with cutting pages for signatures in books. The ruler is very lightweight and flexible. It does not lay completely flat, so there is a slight difference in measuring once you apply your hand to flatten the ruler. For my purposes, it is too flexible. I found that the ruler is too flexible to use for long cuts. I have to reposition my hand as I cut down the ruler. If you are wanting a good straight edge ruler that is lightweight-this is a good choice.

I wanted this ruler so that I could execute smooth, narrow lines with my ruling pen. I need a ruler with specific characteristics for best results. This ruler is exactly what I hoped it would be: -thin, flexible steel with a not-too-thick cork back -precise, engraved measurement markings -crisp but smooth edges This is old world quality that is so scarce anymore, this is the real deal. I will get much use out of this ruler!
