A bread slicer jig like this is very useful if you bake your own bread or buy whole loaves. It makes it easier to cut consistent-sized slices with less waste and a lower chance of injury. I also highly recommend investing in a good bread knife. You won't regret it. These two things will really improve your bread making and eating experience! The Bambüsi bread slicer the third one I have reviewed and this one differs from the others in several important ways. First, other bread slicers I have tried are hinged and fold in and out. This slicer uses a tab system where the pieces slot into openings and come apart. I like this because it is easier to clean and dry. Second, there is no variable height for different sizes of bread, something that did not make much sense to me since a consistent height would work on all types of bread. It does have variable slice sizing, which is more important. Third, instead of one support panel to steady the jig and hold the bread against for slicing, this slicer has two. This system is helpful for controlling the bread when slicing. That means instead of having to apply constant pressure sideways and down to keep the loaf steady, you only have to press down. I like that a lot. It just makes the bread more stable as well as easier to slice consistently. The Bambüsi bread slicer also comes with a tiny brush for cleaning, which I first thought was silly, but it turned out to be quite useful to get crumbs out of tight spots. The slicer is well built and fits together tightly. It is also a very good size, as some larger/longer slicers are more a challenge to store. In most cases, you just do not need a large bread slicer. The tray the slicer sits in is high quality and all the pieces fit tightly in the box. It also has storage bag to keep it clean and allow you to store in on-end to keep the parts together. My husband and I are getting older and trying to perfect an anti-inflammatory diet to make aging more comfortable. To us, that involves making sure we know what we're eating. We have always enjoyed bread making, but mostly made dinner rolls, cinnamon rolls and sweet breads. Now, it's time to make our own loaf breads with whole grains, seeds and nuts. Enter the Bread slicer from the Bambusi store. Before I even opened this, I knew it would be exceptional just from the quality of the box it was packed in. Sure enough, this slicer is heavy duty. The bamboo is not thin or cheap. It's a great quality. The slicer goes together easily. It's shaped so that a bread knife easily fits through both sides of the side braces. The bottom (crumb catcher) does its designated job but also acts as a pretty serving tray if you're putting a loaf of bread on the table for family or guests. I couldn't be more pleased.
