Nice and simple product. Looks sharp and provides the functionality we wanted for our deck, to enjoy the time outside without worrying about being sun impacts. Most of the major parts were labeled, to handle any "left" vs "right" hand components. Majority of the parts are aluminum and I can see how they could deform if you are not careful. However, it meets our needs and is working out well (so far) To some observations of other reviews: 1) The two canopies extend and lock into the fully extended position. The canopies do not lock in any partial extension state, so the wind can move them about 2) I've seen complaints about assembly. I was able to assemble the components just fine, but I've done a lot of LEGO and Ikea assembly. Take your time, keep going to the pictures as reference, and you should do fine. I only took one step apart, due to aluminum issues and alignment issues on the cross piece. Related to assembly, here are some recommendations 1) Pay attention to the pictures for orientation, based on the sticker labels 2) Don't remove the stickers until after full assembly. The orientation does matter (e.g. the roller parts, the cross pieces. 3) The nut-inserts in the posts are aluminum, which means if you cross thread the bolts, you could have issues on a retry. Just take care on screwing them in. I have two holes I may re-tap for the bolts. 4) They do not provide spare parts. A couple extra parts (e.g. screws) would be nice in case of defect or a drop-loss of a part 5) The instructions don't highlight this, but on the canopy, there are loops on the end of the pole holes, that you can loop around the screw or bolt, to keep the canopy tight across the "ribs", to minimize gaps on the edges. 6) The post fittings for the cross pieces are fairly tight, so don't tighten the nuts in fully until both the cross pieces have all their bolts in place to the post. This will allow for some motion to align the holes.

I installed this over a year ago for shade. It functions very well and I'm satisfied with the kit, because having something line this professionally installed is extremely expensive. The kit is so heavy that it was hard for me to move. I took everything out. In the end, I was missing one big bolt for a top beam, but I forgot to mention it because I had three of four. It took all day for me to setup. The instruction was not super clear and an animation on YouTube was different, so I installed some beams backwards and I installed the canvas upside down; I later corrected them in order to finish. I ran extra paracord along the top to hold down the canvas and silence the whole canvas unit. With the unit on its own, with extra cords, wind makes all of the hooks roll around nonstop and rattle noisily; every other kind of product like this one probably has the same problem.

Update: After 2 years, the fabric for the canopy on one side tore and the seller tells me they do not sell replacement canopies and I cannot find a third party canopy fabric to fit. Only dropping to 4 stars since I had 2 good years from it, but expect a big structure like this to last longer. Now I have to either take it down and dispose of it or figure out some way to rig a shade cloth/canopy over top that won't look nearly as good. Previous review: Happy I bought this. Took maybe 4 hours to assemble and needs 2 people for a few of the steps. I felt the instructions were straightforward with just a couple of steps needing a little extra interpretation to figure out what to do. Arrived in good condition and all parts are there. It looks good and is clearly intended to be a permanent structure. We had some decent wind after installing (not a storm, but a steady breeze) with the cover extended and it seemed very capable. No twisting or shifting of the structure. I'd still suggest pulling back and securing the cover for a storm but was happy to see that it isn't flimsy.

Not sure why everyone is mentioning the instructions are unclear… I had no issues. Maybe the seller updated them? Maybe it worked for me because I was a LEGO kid? Regardless I was able to do this by myself on the first try by following the directions (I did read ahead to ensure I understood what the final outcome would be for each step). I will say it will require most people to have a helper or two to put the lower half of the legs on. I got creative with how I lifted the top half of the pergola up to insert the lower portion of the legs. By that point it is very heavy but I used a makeshift tent jack under the doubled up center “rafters”/canvas tracks to lift one entire side at a time. I recommend using this product only on a deck or concrete/brick/paver pad that you are comfortable drilling and screwing into. I built it on a gravel pad and am going to have to get creative with staking it down, but that’s on me, not the product. Some have mentioned that the canvas freely moves around in the wind. If you FOLLOW THE DIRECTIONS, it works exactly as it should when the canvas is extended. When canvas is retracted, there is potential for the canvas to slide along its tracks, but you can loop the pull straps over the end of the rafter to secure it to the side (see my second photo; most people will need to step up on something to reach if you want to do this). Overall I’m happy with this and would recommend it to someone looking for a budget friendly way to get some shade while enjoying a sunny day outside.

It looks nice and assembly is easy. Final assembly steps are much easier with two people. It is VERY flimsy. Pretty much worthless for rain protection. This is a temporary solution until I build a more permanent structure over the back porch.
