Was very excited to receive this. It looks sturdy and the box was VERY heavy. I had to open the box near the front door and carry the parts out (One by one) to the backyard because it was too heavy and I live alone. Received this SIX days ago— some parts were damaged, which directly affects construction. I reached out to the seller for replacement parts, 4+ times. SELLER DOES RESPOND But was a But was a little to slow to respond, so you need to be patient. Unfortunately, I’m not able to complete construction because I’m still waiting on correct parts. NOTE: Last summer I spent $500 on a fabric top gazebo, which was destroyed within 3 months from wind. I wanted to order something more heavy duty, which is why I went with this one. This one is durable metal and seems like it’s a lot heavier and it was actually about $20 cheaper at only $483. I will say this is a nice pergola. Directions are A LITTLE UNCLEAR. Make sure you examine the photos very carefully multiple times. I found myself studying them for several minutes because a few times I had to take a few pieces apart and put them back together again correctly. Amazon suggests 2 to 3 people can complete set up in 3 to 4 hours. However I am a 50 year old woman and I did this all by myself. ALL ALONE! Currently on day five and still waiting on 2 small parts. NOTE: Seller has responded, but the two (2) parts will not be here until Saturday; two more days. **LOOK AT & READ DIRECTIONS VERY CAREFULLY Before you start each step. Some of the drawings in the directions can be a little confusing and unclear. Because it took me five days to complete this, I did have to take a few pieces apart and correct mistakes before putting the final product together. Again, this is because the directions are not 100% clear. I kept reminding myself: “slow and steady wins the race” So, if you are assembling this all by yourself (like me) take your time, LOOK CAREFULLY AT ALL THE DRAWINGS, and allow 4 to 5 days. Received on June 22. Today is June 26 and I’m still not 100% complete. Again, waiting on two parts to replace the two damaged pieces. OVERALL 4 STARS: Even with all the waiting, I would still give this four out of five stars. It looks really nice. Highly recommend 2 to 3 people to help you put this together—deducting - 1 star because of the difficulties, iPad and having to wait for the two parts, which will be here in two days. Overall, it looks great and I think it will hold up. I will update if something else happens. THANK YOU TO THE SELLER For putting up with my 6 to 8 emails! Ha :-) Can’t wait to enjoy this when it’s complete.

We have a large south facing deck that I love to sit down on, but gets way too hot during the day. We’ve tried a few options for shade, including shade sales, and swing arm umbrellas, and the wind eventually takes its toll on them. Plus, the shade sails block the stargazing at night! For a few years, I’ve been thinking about building a pergola almost exactly like this with retractable shade sails and a side shade, and putting it off because of the mental effort involved. For some reason, I started searching Amazon and found this one and it is freaking amazing. We got the 12 x 14, although we could’ve gone bigger I think it’s the right size. If you buy this, think of it like an adult Lego set - settle in, take your time, and it will come together very nicely. I’d say this took about six hours to put together, two hours in the evening watching TV and assembling the bigger pieces, and then four hours the next morning, putting it together outside. And let’s be honest, my husband did 80% of the work. a second set of hands though definitely helps! Celebrating the build by enjoying coffee in the rain and reading a book. Something I couldn’t do out here before!!

The frame held up quite well. I have owned this product for just under two years. If you pay VERY close attention to the instructions and read some of the reviews, you can avoid the assembly problems and put it together just fine. I have the 12x20 size. Assembly is easier with 2 people, but once built, it ideally requires 6 people to move. It can be done with 4, but the legs will scrape the ground. My biggest problem currently is the overhead canopy. It is starting to shred, and there is no replacement offered by the company. You can buy replacement side shades, but no overhead shade replacement. Rather frustrating for a product like this. The material tears very easily.

The instructions were very confusing, maybe provide a video or actual pictures of the assembly, several parts were loose in the box, and the bags were not labeled. The stickers had fallen off so unknown as to what it was, one pole was dented, and one fitting did not fit properly. The screw covers are also loose and will likely fall off over time. I luckily have a talented husband who figured things out! It’s up looks good….Update: company gave me a partial credit for my hassle!

Not sure why everyone is mentioning the instructions are unclear… I had no issues. Maybe the seller updated them? Maybe it worked for me because I was a LEGO kid? Regardless I was able to do this by myself on the first try by following the directions (I did read ahead to ensure I understood what the final outcome would be for each step). I will say it will require most people to have a helper or two to put the lower half of the legs on. I got creative with how I lifted the top half of the pergola up to insert the lower portion of the legs. By that point it is very heavy but I used a makeshift tent jack under the doubled up center “rafters”/canvas tracks to lift one entire side at a time. I recommend using this product only on a deck or concrete/brick/paver pad that you are comfortable drilling and screwing into. I built it on a gravel pad and am going to have to get creative with staking it down, but that’s on me, not the product. Some have mentioned that the canvas freely moves around in the wind. If you FOLLOW THE DIRECTIONS, it works exactly as it should when the canvas is extended. When canvas is retracted, there is potential for the canvas to slide along its tracks, but you can loop the pull straps over the end of the rafter to secure it to the side (see my second photo; most people will need to step up on something to reach if you want to do this). Overall I’m happy with this and would recommend it to someone looking for a budget friendly way to get some shade while enjoying a sunny day outside.
