It has held up very well. Only thing is I do wish at least the legs were heavyier or sturdier. Also I must add my husband built them all by himself I maybe helped add the legs that’s about it.

Nice and simple product. Looks sharp and provides the functionality we wanted for our deck, to enjoy the time outside without worrying about being sun impacts. Most of the major parts were labeled, to handle any "left" vs "right" hand components. Majority of the parts are aluminum and I can see how they could deform if you are not careful. However, it meets our needs and is working out well (so far) To some observations of other reviews: 1) The two canopies extend and lock into the fully extended position. The canopies do not lock in any partial extension state, so the wind can move them about 2) I've seen complaints about assembly. I was able to assemble the components just fine, but I've done a lot of LEGO and Ikea assembly. Take your time, keep going to the pictures as reference, and you should do fine. I only took one step apart, due to aluminum issues and alignment issues on the cross piece. Related to assembly, here are some recommendations 1) Pay attention to the pictures for orientation, based on the sticker labels 2) Don't remove the stickers until after full assembly. The orientation does matter (e.g. the roller parts, the cross pieces. 3) The nut-inserts in the posts are aluminum, which means if you cross thread the bolts, you could have issues on a retry. Just take care on screwing them in. I have two holes I may re-tap for the bolts. 4) They do not provide spare parts. A couple extra parts (e.g. screws) would be nice in case of defect or a drop-loss of a part 5) The instructions don't highlight this, but on the canopy, there are loops on the end of the pole holes, that you can loop around the screw or bolt, to keep the canopy tight across the "ribs", to minimize gaps on the edges. 6) The post fittings for the cross pieces are fairly tight, so don't tighten the nuts in fully until both the cross pieces have all their bolts in place to the post. This will allow for some motion to align the holes.

Not sure why everyone is mentioning the instructions are unclear… I had no issues. Maybe the seller updated them? Maybe it worked for me because I was a LEGO kid? Regardless I was able to do this by myself on the first try by following the directions (I did read ahead to ensure I understood what the final outcome would be for each step). I will say it will require most people to have a helper or two to put the lower half of the legs on. I got creative with how I lifted the top half of the pergola up to insert the lower portion of the legs. By that point it is very heavy but I used a makeshift tent jack under the doubled up center “rafters”/canvas tracks to lift one entire side at a time. I recommend using this product only on a deck or concrete/brick/paver pad that you are comfortable drilling and screwing into. I built it on a gravel pad and am going to have to get creative with staking it down, but that’s on me, not the product. Some have mentioned that the canvas freely moves around in the wind. If you FOLLOW THE DIRECTIONS, it works exactly as it should when the canvas is extended. When canvas is retracted, there is potential for the canvas to slide along its tracks, but you can loop the pull straps over the end of the rafter to secure it to the side (see my second photo; most people will need to step up on something to reach if you want to do this). Overall I’m happy with this and would recommend it to someone looking for a budget friendly way to get some shade while enjoying a sunny day outside.

The instructions were very confusing, maybe provide a video or actual pictures of the assembly, several parts were loose in the box, and the bags were not labeled. The stickers had fallen off so unknown as to what it was, one pole was dented, and one fitting did not fit properly. The screw covers are also loose and will likely fall off over time. I luckily have a talented husband who figured things out! It’s up looks good….Update: company gave me a partial credit for my hassle!

The pergola itself looks very nice, but the overhead retractable canopy did not last one year, despite the fact that it was open most of the time so it was not getting a lot of use. I contacted the company and told them that it was already showing wear and there were holes in it and I inquired about a replacement even for a cost, and that it didn’t even hold up 14 months and they did not seem to care. They told me to call contact a textile company to help me replace the fabric. And they said I could always just patch it You would think that they would stand behind their product, but they don’t seem to care how long it lasts. I would definitely consider buying from somebody that will actually stand behind their name! When you put up a pergola you would hope that it would last longer than one year.

The frame held up quite well. I have owned this product for just under two years. If you pay VERY close attention to the instructions and read some of the reviews, you can avoid the assembly problems and put it together just fine. I have the 12x20 size. Assembly is easier with 2 people, but once built, it ideally requires 6 people to move. It can be done with 4, but the legs will scrape the ground. My biggest problem currently is the overhead canopy. It is starting to shred, and there is no replacement offered by the company. You can buy replacement side shades, but no overhead shade replacement. Rather frustrating for a product like this. The material tears very easily.

We have a large south facing deck that I love to sit down on, but gets way too hot during the day. We’ve tried a few options for shade, including shade sales, and swing arm umbrellas, and the wind eventually takes its toll on them. Plus, the shade sails block the stargazing at night! For a few years, I’ve been thinking about building a pergola almost exactly like this with retractable shade sails and a side shade, and putting it off because of the mental effort involved. For some reason, I started searching Amazon and found this one and it is freaking amazing. We got the 12 x 14, although we could’ve gone bigger I think it’s the right size. If you buy this, think of it like an adult Lego set - settle in, take your time, and it will come together very nicely. I’d say this took about six hours to put together, two hours in the evening watching TV and assembling the bigger pieces, and then four hours the next morning, putting it together outside. And let’s be honest, my husband did 80% of the work. a second set of hands though definitely helps! Celebrating the build by enjoying coffee in the rain and reading a book. Something I couldn’t do out here before!!

One post was slightly dented. Hope it holds up. The weight of the corner posts, feels about like a heavier down spout metal. Rather flimsy. But looks nice. Glad I purchased the 5 year warranty! We reinforced each corner post with an 8 ft. 2x4 stained & to match the deck. The metal is thin and needs extra support against the wind, it’s anchored to the railing and deck floor. It ain’t moving. And we like how it looks. That metal is not going to bend. If need be sometime, we could replace all the corner posts with stained 8 ft. 4x4’s. No problem.
