  • Nicely made, easy couple hours to install. Nice quality seal and aluminum both. Only minor issues.
Size: 16 FT, 1-5/8" width Color: Black
Installation overall was an easy couple of hours one cool afternoon. Aluminum bottom plate pieces with T-shaped grooves for the flexible seal are nicely machined and rigid. My large single garage door was not quite as wide as the 16 foot seal package I'd ordered, but the metal was easy to trim down to suit with a hacksaw and the seal with a large pair of snippers. Levered the seal into the T grooves with a plastic car trim panel tool I had on hand. There's a fair amount of wiggle room such that about every inch down the seal simply pressing into it saw it softly snap snugly into place. The only ding for me was the self-tapping screws. A few managed to strip the metal and spin freely, which necessitated pulling those out in favor of some wider ones. Not a huge deal, they appear to be overall doing nicely to secure the metal plates to the roughly A-framed sheet metal on the bottom panel of the garage door. They do jut upwards some but with the surrounding metal you'd be hard pressed to fall onto them and get jabbed (some scrap styrofoam would nicely cover the protrusions in case of wayward pets or toddlers). After adjusting downward extent of the door closure on the opener, there is now a lot less light intrusion and thus a significantly better seal than the one it replaces (which was inferior in that it had just a few inches of the relatively rigid tubing at either end rather than across the entire length of the seal). Photos show the installed seal with garage door fully open (note angle from horizontal in red), the disposition of extra seal in extra length of aluminum rail, and how I positioned and used the trim tool to snap the seal into the grooves. ... show more

  • Works well.
Size: 10 FT, 1-5/8" width Color: Black
This was easy to install and worked well. The track is aluminum and in 3 sections. It is easily cut with any saw to the correct length as needed. Getting the rubber seal into the track takes a little while but is not difficult. Overall good replacement for old door seal where there is not currently a good track at the bottom of the door.. ... show more

  • Great product...with one possible issue to be aware of
Size: 10 FT, 1-5/8" width Color: Black
After looking at a lot of competing products, I chose this one from Bowsen specifically because of the uniquely shaped channels on the aluminum track, and the extra "O" ring element in the seal itself. The track was easy to install. (Based on many comments I came across about garage door seal products in general, I opted to use better screws than the ones supplied, just in case). When it came to installing the rubber seal into the track, it turned out that its unique curved design (unlike the two 90-degree square corners on most other products) did work perfectly to make installing the seal with a screw driver far easier than pulling it along the full length of the track (as the other design requires). And that feature turned out to be very welcome later as I found I had to remove and reinstall the seal several times in order to deal with an unexpected issue created by the internal "O" ring in the seal. Though I still think the O-ring is a great idea and probably works perfectly in many other situations, it didn't work well with mine. What I encountered was that the added solidity and resistance provided by the O-ring made it impossible to close the door completely. Compared with the old, flat seal it replaced, the additional volume and solidity of the seal added "stack height" that prevented the door from descending as far as it had before, which prevented the top panel from completing its path to close against the top of the door frame. Also, the volume of the seal caused it to contact and press into the door frame while descending, which triggered the pressure sensor in the lift mechanism and engaged the safety reversal system. Even after changing the force factor pressure sensor to the lowest possible setting, and readjusting the close limit as much as possible, the door simply wouldn't close properly. I had to uninstall and reinstall the seal several times (which was thankfully easy due to the design) as I experimented with what I needed to do in order to get the seal to work with my door. I tried some intermediate steps (partial incisions and excisions) but eventually found that I needed to cut the O-ring segment completely out of the seal to finally achieve the flexibility (and related "collapsibility") that was necessary to allow the door to lower and close as much as it had before. So, just be aware that this kind of seal (with the integrated O-ring) adds some stack height to a door that might pose some issues in some circumstances. ... show more
