  • Great Product Easy to Install ! Great Product Easy to Install !
This product is fantastic. Thickness for my garage was just right. 1. One Amazon reviewer that made a video on this product used a jigsaw to cut the panels. That was probably the best suggestion ever. I did the same thing and made for clean cuts every time. Little residue was left on the floor from the cuts being made with the jigsaw. See pic of floor. 2. As other reviewers noted not all panels on the garage door will be the same size to cut them down to. Take your time, measure twice and cut once. Use a T-square if you have one. 3. As another Amazon reviewer noted, you may need for garage door company to come out and re-balance the doors due to the extra weight of the foam panels being added. My double door took on an extra 20lbs using this product and the single door took on an extra 10 lbs. You would never know it because of how light these panels are. Pictures below show the Double door WIP and finished, and a closeup of the double door. My only issue was the price point. Roughly $20 a panel which is steep. Very Happy, Highly recommend! UPDATE: 4/18 - I have been going to the garage on really hot days. What a difference these panels make. The panels are cool to the touch, however you can tell how hot the garage door really could be when you touch one of the "L" brackets on the inside of the garage that makes contact with the front of the garage exposed to the heat. WOW what a difference !!! ... show more

  • Well designed, easy to install effective insulation and sound proofing
We were looking for thermal insulation going into this winter to offset the cold that conducts with aluminum overhead garage doors. The panels are 1.25” thick with vinyl facing. Once cut to the proper size they were easily snapped into place. At least with our doors, adhesion is not a factor as the panel snapped into our frames, holding them securely. The panels were easily cut to size using a box cutter on an 8’ folding table. Total time for the first 9’ door was slightly over 1 hour: accurate layout to snap in place is critical. The second door, once i had the process down, took less than 30 minutes. So far, the vinyl facing has proven to be durable and easily washable. Temperatures inside the garage now are noticeably warmer or cooler than before installation. Sound insulation has also been noticeable. I don’t recommend installation on a windy day: the little foam “ghost pebbles” that flake off during cutting will migrate with ease in a breeze! ... show more

  • Good, but read for things you want to know...
My garage door had two different size panels, so I ended up ordering the large ("Commercial") Matador panels, and the (significantly cheaper) less wide Cellofoam panels from Home Depot...thereby giving me a comparison for this review. But first: Out of 3 boxes of this type of material, delivered as three separate orders, every one of the boxes had damage and had damaged panels...so plan accordingly! The Matadore product differed from the Cellofoam in two ways: First, it seemed to bend easier for installation (although being 3" wider as installed, some of that was probably just the extra width. Still it seemed to bend better. Secondly, the Matador product had a slightly whiter vinyl face. I used a snap-off blade knife to cut these, and as I worked I discovered that I could make VERY much cleaner cuts (which meant much less crumbling/mess!) if I made sure I had a very sharp blade, and I PULLED the blade thru the foam in several passes, rather than any "sawing" motion or even any pushing down cutting motion. After a while learning how to do it, I was getting very clean cuts!!!! Score the vinyl with the first pass, cut 1/3 to 1/2 thru on the second (the knife follows the cut vinyl very well) and finish with a third cut...ALL done by pulling the knife thru the foam! Using a temperature reading gun before finishing, I saw about a 6 degree difference between the insulated and un-insulated panels on the door, I added attic insulation above it, and the garage is now holding its' temp quite well. Installing this stuff isn't difficult, but it took me MUCH longer than they might suggest. In my case, my garage door has deep channels to the side of each panel; each of those had a long screw holding the hinges, and those had to be removed before foam could be slid in. I had to cut a small piece for that area, and then a bigger piece for the main panel area. And each panel first had to be cut to the right width. So each panel took over 10 minutes to install: Measure; cut whole panel width, cut channel piece and main piece, remove bolts, install foam pieces, re-install bolts. ... show more

  • Keeps the inside of the garage door MUCH cooler and blocks sound from outside.
This product works and was relatively easy to cut and install. That process is VERY messy; days later I'm still cleaning up tiny white nodules of plastic foam. However, that all seemed predictable and unavoidable -- you're cutting foam, after all. The garage is noticeably cooler and quieter with this insulation. We live in Florida and used to burn ourselves touching the inside of the metal garage door. Now it's the same temperature as the rest of the garage. We're enjoying the quietness, too -- blocks noise from the street. ... show more

  • Must have for your garage
Must have for your garage. Its helped keep temperatures even throughout winter and summer. It actually looks pretty good and fits perfectly. I used my table saw to trim them and they came out great. Cuts really clean.

  • Installed on one door done in 45 minutes by myself Installed on one door done in 45 minutes by myself
We have two doors without insulation, which would probably be okay if we parked our vehicles in the garage, but it is more of a shop that gets cold in the winter and hot in the summer. The R value on this isn’t great, except compared to the zero rating without it. The size of these pieces are perfect to fit half the door panels without trimming, the other 4 I had to trim just over an inch off: the left side of the garage door panels tuck inside on both ends, while on the right side one end is flush against the door frame. Before and after pics are posted. I did the left side first, as no trim was necessary, and the first one was the second from the top, and if you look closely you may notice that the imperfections become less as I learned. I needed to exercise patience and massage the pieces into place. We have two doors, and I only bought one-in case I didn’t like it, but I just ordered another to do the other door. We still have some hot days ahead, so I’ll be able to see how noticeable the difference is. I know it will better than it was with nothing for sure. Update! Door number two done. Start to finish, including tools put away and clean up 50 minutes. Added pics show all the tools I used in one and my entire waste. I enjoy listening to music at a semi high volume in my garage/shop, and now the next door neighbors won’t be subjected to it. I’ve checked and the difference is considerable. Bonus! ... show more

  • Installation Story
The panels were easy to cut, use a sharp cutter to minimize the Styrofoam waste. It wasn't as bad as some stated regarding the clean-up. I did remove the screws on each panel before installation. I cut each panel 1/4" shorter to ease installation. The right side of the door had "L" brackets on both sides. I slipped in a 1/2" piece on the right side and cut the panel to fit make it easier to install. The right panels were the most difficult to install. All other panels took about 10 minutes to install per panel. I used the excess trim pieces to frame in the windows. I used 3M white tape to cover the Styrofoam edges and two-sided tape to secure the framing. I ensured there was a tight fit of the vertical pieces to hold it all in place. It all came out looking great. I had 3 full panels left out of 16 panels on my two-car garage. ... show more

  • Good product. Frequent damage due to inadequate packaging. Not worth the frustration, time, or delays due to reshipping. Good product. Frequent damage due to inadequate packaging. Not worth the frustration, time, or delays due to reshipping.
This is a good product but the manufacturer packages it in a thin cardboard box that is inadequate for shipping. The insulation panels are rather fragile and if the box is punched or the corners of the box are bashed, the panels inside will be trashed. I have bought 11 of these kits and all have sustained some degree of shipping damage. Usually I was able to trim off the ruined part, but one box was so damaged the shipper returned it before I even got it. Amazon was inept at replacing it and I had to initiate a replacement. It was a CLUSTER! Two days later I received a second kit that I ordered and it was damaged buy a punch to the box that smashed one panel. Other than the difficulties getting them shipped intact, the product it a good one. Makes your garage door much quieter and warmer in winter, cooler in summer. Easy to install. If your door pockets are too deep, you'll have to buy sheets of foam insulation to build out the pocket to 1 1/4": thickness of these panels. Final product it great. Easily cleaned, and a great addition to a metal garage door. However, due to the frustration with shipping damage, overall, the experience with these sucks. ... show more
