  • Does what it says
Style: Metal Detector
This is my first foray into the metal detecting arena. This unit was the price point and technology that was perfect for me. Very lightweight unit that wasn't cumbersome. I read the reviews and planned for the few "weaknesses" of this model. They are not important to me since I am just starting out. Adapted to beeping with an in-line volume adapter to the headphones. Was disappointed that it didn't come with arm strap. Had something that worked so made my own. My "test" was at the back of the property where an old structure was. I found an old barbed wire fence line that dropped and was buried some time back. Found some old square head nails as well. No gold so so retirement plan is as-is. For me this unit will work just fine. So: price point was very good, meets expectations, adapted to units shortcomings electronically, lightweight and easy to use. ... show more

  • This detector is easy to use and works well.
Style: Metal Detector
This metal detector is easy to use and I really like it's digital display that ACCURATELY identifies the type of metal found. I got it as a gift for my dad, but couldn't help trying it out before giving it to him. As a test, it easily found coins and keys tossed randomly thru the yard. I've also found coins and nails that were lost years before. I also successfully used it to find an odd-shaped aluminum spacer that dropped from my motorcycle somewhere in the gravel driveway. I'm giving this one to my dad, but will buy another for myself. The motorcycle parts incident convinced me this detector is well worth the $90. I would suggest buying a 4x4 plastic tarp, small shovel, and some gardening hand troughs and rakes for use while detecting. We developed a good technique for yard-metal detecting. After getting a signal, cut up a cube of earth. Place the cube of earth on the tarp. Scan the cube to see if the metal is in it. Use the hand tools to break up the dirt cube and find the metal. Once we have the metal we re-fill the hole from the dirt on the tarp. If you keep the sod intact, you can re-cover the hole very nicely. ... show more

  • Great metal detector for a beginner
Style: Metal Detector
Bought this for my husband after he made a passing comment about getting one. He loves it! It doesn't have too many bells and whistles and sometimes it's not terribly accurate but it works well and he's really gotten into the hobby. We will likely upgrade soon to something more advanced but this was a great value for the money and lots of fun. we DO wish the headphone jack worked with all the pairs of earbuds we have on hand rather than needing an adapter. Or maybe volume control on the unit itself. I can imagine how many beach-goers he's annoyed on his treasure hunts as the alert is very loud. ... show more

  • My yard looks like the moon
Style: Metal Detector
Beginner friendly. My 9 yr old saved up his money to buy a metal detector. After some research this is the one we landed on. It was easy to put together but one of the battery connectors was pushed down in the casing so it was difficult at first to see it. Then we were afraid to pull on the wires (not yet knowing that is was indeed the connectors) from fear of tearing it up. Once that was figured out, my son, armed with a trowel and his new toy, set out to destroy my backyard. He’s found a lot of rusted nails, screws, tin cans, random pipes, a key, and even a handful of coins. He digs up everything but gets really excited when “it’s beeping for a coin!” and then actually digs up a coin. He’s really enjoying his metal detector and I’ve enjoyed his excitement over his finds. We’ve kept it to shallow digging because I don’t want break-your-leg sized holes in the yard so I can’t speak if it’s accuracy or depth beyond a couple inches but it seems fairly accurate for what he’s doing. ... show more

  • Worked like a charm
Style: Metal Detector
Within 5 min of assembly, I found the item that had gone missing. Was able to use it to find the corner marker of the property that was buried as well. Still looking for the chest of buried treasure, but hey I found my keys so it’s a win!

  • It Takes Practice
Style: Metal Detector
I bought this device because I needed to find a lost survey pin in an overgrown field. Having now successfully used it, I don't recommend this model for that purpose. The advertising and product literature included in the product packaging make it clear that the device is designed to aid people looking for lost coins and jewelry. I suspect it would do that job quite well on beach sand, mowed lawn, trail or other relatively clear area, but my assumption that a 1/2" diameter, 8' long, steel pin driven vertically into the ground would be easy to detect proved false. The instruction manual recommends sweeping the ground 1/2" above the surface. That isn't possible in a field overgrown with brambles. Holding the metal detector above the weeds produced no signal. The only solution was to run survey lines from established coordinates to narrow the search area enough to enable clearing the ground with a sickle before searching with the metal detector. The detector itself is very precise, by which I mean it doesn't signal the presence of metal unless it is swept directly over the target. That minimizes false positive signals and would be a great attribute for someone combing a beach for lost valuables. It proved to be a disadvantage for my purpose. For finding survey stakes or, I suppose any specific target in a relatively well defined area with less than ideal terrain, I think a device that could detect the presence of metal from a greater distance and either directly indicate the direction to the target or indirectly indicate it by changing the volume or pitch of the alarm based on the strength of the signal would be more useful. All that being said, I did find the lost survey pin 6"-8" below grade and doubt that I would have found it without a metal detector of some type so it did accomplish the task for which it was purchased--just not as efficiently as I had hoped. I do think this model would work well for treasure hunting in a less rugged environment. ... show more

  • NICE!
Style: Metal Detector
Only needed it to find a boundary pin but have used it a few other times, don't know how powerful it really is but was worth my investment
