  • Metal Detector
Set name: Quick Silver
My husband has been looking for a metal detector for a while. This was a great deal and works great.

  • This detector is easy to use and works well.
Set name: Quick Silver
This metal detector is easy to use and I really like it's digital display that ACCURATELY identifies the type of metal found. I got it as a gift for my dad, but couldn't help trying it out before giving it to him. As a test, it easily found coins and keys tossed randomly thru the yard. I've also found coins and nails that were lost years before. I also successfully used it to find an odd-shaped aluminum spacer that dropped from my motorcycle somewhere in the gravel driveway. I'm giving this one to my dad, but will buy another for myself. The motorcycle parts incident convinced me this detector is well worth the $90. I would suggest buying a 4x4 plastic tarp, small shovel, and some gardening hand troughs and rakes for use while detecting. We developed a good technique for yard-metal detecting. After getting a signal, cut up a cube of earth. Place the cube of earth on the tarp. Scan the cube to see if the metal is in it. Use the hand tools to break up the dirt cube and find the metal. Once we have the metal we re-fill the hole from the dirt on the tarp. If you keep the sod intact, you can re-cover the hole very nicely. ... show more

  • Review and Tips!
Set name: Quick Silver With Pin Pointer
OK...lets start. This is a good detector for starting in this hobby. Let me say a few things first. It has some simple features (like multiple tones and basic dissemination) for a base unit that work OK. I made sure to find a good Iron sample and rejected it. That did help. I also set my depth to the middle setting. The deep setting picked up too much garbage. You can use it deep but I think it needs a bit more power. It had a tough time identifying the singles. I like that there are different tones for different things. I have the head phones (to save the batteries) but careful they are a bit loud and I did not find a volume control. Make sure you carry a bag for your treasure and a couple of extra 9v Alkaline Batteries with you. The build quality is OK, what you would expect in this range. The Display is nice and tries to give you good info. Simple to use. It is fun to use as long as you remember that this is a base unit. swing slow and take your time. I found some good stuff (Clad coins and a nice junk ring). It takes a few tries to really get used to it. Pin pointing a object is a bit tricky...make sure you use a slow X pattern when you find something to try to isolate the single. The pinpointer that came with this kit is a bit weak, but it did help. Overall I say 4 stars for a starter, kid, or backup detector. This really does not compete with a better product. My friend gave me his Fisher F22 to try out (also a starter detector but in the low $200 range) it it was night and day better, but this one is still fun. I will upgrade later after I find a little more Clad =P ... show more

  • Only one Major Problem!
Set name: Quick Silver With Pin Pointer
Let me start by saying this was a gift for my dad. Hes been wanting a metal detector for as long as I remember. My mom and I did some collaborating and I purchased the Quick Silver on Amazon. My dad opened the package and was thrilled, he immediately opened the box and pulled the contents out...much like a kid on Christmas. He snapped the 3-4 pieces together in just a few minutes. The first thing he mentioned was the extremely light weight of the unit, its literally weightless in your hand. Overall the fully assembled unit is very sturdy and feels durable yet light in your hand, which will come in handy for those long days of hunting. We popped in the 2-9volt batteries (not included) and headed outside. My parents have a fairly large yard, and within seconds we were beeping and locating items! We agreed since it was getting late and the mosquitoes were terrible it would just be a test to get a feel for it, but after the first "detection" of course the shovel came out. The screen was reading the first depth indicator, and detecting coins. We dug out a pop can sized hole maybe about 3 inches deep and wow, it was an old dime! This answered our question about the accuracy, its terrific! We did one more spot, and after deep digging we came up with...and old pull tab off a can, funny thing is even the instruction book tells us this is the biggest annoyance found by metal detectors. All and all I must say this thing is terrific, lots of fun and a reward for your work. Now your probably asking whats the one major problem I mention in my review title? Well that would have to be my mom getting mad that dads out turning the back yard into swiss cheese! I see this purchase being very much worth the money. I would highly recommend this product! ... show more

  • Love this! Already worth the price.
Set name: Quick Silver With Pin Pointer
I lost my wedding ring in our yard when I was working out there about 6 weeks ago as it was hurting me so I took it off. When I went inside I picked up the ring and a bunch of other stuff. Later that day I realized I didn't have my ring. We looked and looked in the yard with no luck. I got my husband this metal detector as a Christmas gift since he has always wanted one and he found my ring within 15 minutes! Already paid for itself by finding my missing ring. Now to use it for adventures. ... show more

  • Simple, Works Great as a Starter Detector
Set name: Quick Silver With Pin Pointer
Just got it a couple of hours ago and we already found several toy cars and even some coins in the backyard including an old 1940 mercury dime. The pinpointer works fine within an inch or less. I already ordered another one for my mother as a BD present who is turning 80 this weekend and wanted one that is easy and lightweight. It isn't the top of the line model but does what it needs to at a cheap price. If you are thinking about getting into the hobby it is an inexpensive initiation model. Not to mention you get a pinpointer too that is adequate. Also on the positive side it won't detect your utilities that are "supposed" to be at 12 inches down or more. (We did find an old not used Comcast line near the house that was only 2 inches down) ... show more

  • It Takes Practice
Set name: Quick Silver
I bought this device because I needed to find a lost survey pin in an overgrown field. Having now successfully used it, I don't recommend this model for that purpose. The advertising and product literature included in the product packaging make it clear that the device is designed to aid people looking for lost coins and jewelry. I suspect it would do that job quite well on beach sand, mowed lawn, trail or other relatively clear area, but my assumption that a 1/2" diameter, 8' long, steel pin driven vertically into the ground would be easy to detect proved false. The instruction manual recommends sweeping the ground 1/2" above the surface. That isn't possible in a field overgrown with brambles. Holding the metal detector above the weeds produced no signal. The only solution was to run survey lines from established coordinates to narrow the search area enough to enable clearing the ground with a sickle before searching with the metal detector. The detector itself is very precise, by which I mean it doesn't signal the presence of metal unless it is swept directly over the target. That minimizes false positive signals and would be a great attribute for someone combing a beach for lost valuables. It proved to be a disadvantage for my purpose. For finding survey stakes or, I suppose any specific target in a relatively well defined area with less than ideal terrain, I think a device that could detect the presence of metal from a greater distance and either directly indicate the direction to the target or indirectly indicate it by changing the volume or pitch of the alarm based on the strength of the signal would be more useful. All that being said, I did find the lost survey pin 6"-8" below grade and doubt that I would have found it without a metal detector of some type so it did accomplish the task for which it was purchased--just not as efficiently as I had hoped. I do think this model would work well for treasure hunting in a less rugged environment. ... show more

  • Great Metal Detector On A Budget!
Set name: Quick Silver With Pin Pointer
This is my first time dwelling into the amusing world of metal detecting, so this Bounty Hunter Quick Silver w/pin pointer was my first detector. First, the packaging was over packaged. I tore away at the first box only to realize there was another box. So I eagerly tear away at that box only to realize that there was yet another box! Finally, after what seemed like trying to break a safe, I got to the Quicksilver. Packaging aside, this is a great detector. I have had a few days to use it around my yard, and I found a handful of items so far. A few nails, 2 dimes, a penny, a dog license tag from the year 2000, and some foil. I plan on taking it to a local park soon in hopes of finding more valuable items. It came with a pin pointer, which is a must for this type of detector, it's pretty hard to find anything otherwise. Plus from doing some pricing, the pin pointer it comes with costs an additional $30 bucks if you were to buy it separate. As for the durability, it seems to be pretty durable. I have dropped it once or twice already, and it didn't do any damage to the unit. It's also pretty light. As for the few people saying their arm gets tired after a while, they must have very week arms. At the most, this unit probably weighs two pounds or less, and my arm has never gotten tired. Overall, it's a great detector if you are starting out on a budget, and who knows, maybe it will make me rich one day! ... show more
