When I got this refrigerator/freezer (which I am using strictly as a freezer at -4 degrees F, its lowest setting, because that’s what’s best for my homemade ice cream), the first thing I did was try to download and set up the BougeRV app. I wasted days trying to set up an account (and have not succeeded yet) and writing support at their website and also their Amazon contact email to try to get help getting my account set up. (While writing this review, I got a call from their customer support person, who is putting in a trouble ticket on my situation. YMMV.) I have two separate solar arrays with charge controllers, batteries, and inverters set up to run my upright freezer and fridge/freezer 24/7, plus miscellaneous small appliances on a sporadic basis on the beefier “fridge” array when there is surplus power. I wanted this little fridge/freezer to use with a smaller panel I have plus a BougeRV power station designed specifically to run with their portable refrigerators. But I felt dead in the water without the app, until I realized I could just plug the fridge into one of my energy monitoring smart plugs and monitor it that way…no need for the fridge’s Bluetooth/app for that. Actually, the manual settings on the fridge itself are simple and fairly intuitive to figure out, so I just set it at the temp I wanted, left it on the default Max setting until it (quickly) came to the set temp, then switched to Eco mode for highest efficiency. The reason I’m giving this five stars is not for the app. The whole app experience gets zero stars from me because I’ve yet to get it to work at all. Realize, too, that the Bluetooth capability of this fridge has not been tested for this reason. But, people, this little fridge/freezer quickly came to -4 degrees and then drew a consistent 28w to 31w to maintain that temp over a 24 hour period. Mostly 29w. This is plugged into the grid with the included AC adapter and with it only being about half full. I haven’t attempted to run it off solar yet because I’m not sure where I would put it to make the best use of the solar panel outside. I may just keep it on the grid all the time at home unless the power goes out, it’s so efficient. And speaking of efficient, the array/controller/inverter/battery setup I have dedicated to my upright freezer has just barely been getting it through 24 hours. I was looking at adding another solar panel and also another battery, but we’re talking about some money for just that one appliance and to buy at most an extra day off the grid. What I have done instead is schedule (via my Tapo smart plug and app) just enough “freezer off” hours overnight to allow the battery to run down to a moderately low level, then shut the freezer off, turning it back on after a few hours of sunshine in the morning have replenished the battery. But by putting my oft-needed items into this smaller BougeRV “cooler,” it almost pays for its wattage, even when run on grid power, because the big freezer uses less electricity if kept closed most of the time. I could choose to leave the BougeRV on the grid all the time for what I’m saving on the big freezer. Of course, in the back of my mind is always the idea that we might have to bug out during a disaster, so I’ll keep this near the front door so we won’t forget to grab it on the way out. I’ll grab my Bluetti and BougeRV power station and the portable solar panels needed to keep them charged and running things. Or just grab it for a day trip. I’m pretty impressed with this little fridge.

The "BougeRV 12 Volt Refrigerator, CRS 53 Quart 12V Car Fridge, Portable Freezer (-4℉ to 68℉) with APP Control" is a great fridge. Over the years, I have purchased several BougeRV products and they have always been awesome. This fridge is no exception. The fridge is built out of great quality material and is really solid and sturdy. For the quality of the build, it is still a fairly lightweight fridge. Get it full of food and it is pretty heavy, but when empty, if you have to move it around it is totally manageable by yourself and the built in handles on each side make it easy to hold. The size of the fridge, in my case 53quarts is great. I've had smaller 12 volt fridges and wish I had a bigger one. This one is just right, large enough without being too large. The lid is incredible as you can swap the lid around and be able to open it up from what ever side that you want. I love this feature as you can can swap it over depending on how/where you need to set your fridge in your camper or truck/car, etc making for a much easier access to your food. This is one of my favorite features with this fridge. It can run directly of of 12 volts (with the included adapter) or can be plugged into a 110v wall outlet if you are using it in your home or pre-cooling, etc. Cooling happens very quickly. I have another 12v fridge from another brand and it takes forever to cool down compared to this BougeRV fridge. It is a day and night difference. This is a far superior fridge compared to my other/old one. The fact that this can be used as a freezer or a fridge is great to me. I sometimes will go out on long/extended camping trips and I have things that I want to stay completely frozen for the entire duration of the trip. This fridge has no problem keeping everything 100% completely frozen. Now, that being said, it is either one or the other, it is a freezer or a fridge. It can not do both at the same time as it is not a dual zone fridge. But for me I did not want that, so it meets my needs perfectly. It is great to have the ability to control the fridge with an app as well as to be able to check on the temps and make sure that it is running correctly. I find that once set up and temperatures set, etc that I really don't look at or use the app very much. But it is excellent for set up and also the occasional monitoring of the fridge. I also love how quiet that the fridge is. I don't have a way to test the decibels, but they say it is at about 35db. One thing that I do know for sure it is way more quiet when compared to my old 12v fridge. Worth it right there as I am a light sleeper and having the cooling fans and compressor making noise all night on the old fridge was really getting to me. With this BougeRV fridge, yes, I can hear it but it is super faint where I have it in my camper and doesn't bother me at all. Overall, I am impressed with the build quality, functionality, and function of the fridge. Very happy to have this fridge.

Plug and play electric cooler works great. Kept an 18-pack of drinks cold outside in 90 degree weather. Light weight considering what it was able to handle. The app was neat, but overall I won't end up using it. I like that the lid can be moved so that it can open from either side of the cooler. As well, the cooler drain at the bottom will make it much easier to clean out when needed.
