  • Great value stereo, no frills
Style: 616UAB
I bought a dash-mounted CarPlay screen but the headphone jack on the aftermarket radio in my truck didn't work. I got this budget stereo so I could use that functionality, and it works perfectly. It's a budget, no-frills model, which is reflected in the price. I can't speak to the longevity, but I definitely recommend this if you need a cheap stereo. ... show more

  • Great stereo
Style: 616UAB
I very rarely write reviews but this deserves one. I wasn't expecting much when I purchased this but, what a great stereo for the price. I have been into car audio for over 20 years and have installed countless stereo's. I upgrade from an older Pioneer head unit that did not have Bluetooth connectivity, only aux in. This Boss stereo blows the Pioneer away in sound quality and power. Bluetooth connectivity works great and connects to my phone automatically every time with no issues. Has bass/trebble balance/fade controls, along with a couple preset eq curves. People that are complaining about screen brightness in other reviews just need to turn up the brightness in the settings menu. I have no problem seeing the screen in full sun. Stereo looks and feels of much better quality than the price suggests. I love how shallow it is as well. It makes installation a breeze. My only complaint would be the sound quality doesn't seem quite as good when just listening to FM radio. However I only listen to talk shows in the morning on FM. All of my music I listen through Bluetooth on my phone and it works great for that. I have only used the stereo's built in microphone a couple times to call my wife's phone and she can hear me just fine. However she says there is a slight echoing on her side of the call like she can hear everything she is saying to me. This could be because I have had the stereo up pretty loud in the calls and is maybe getting feedback into the mic? Not really a problem for me because I didn't buy it for hands free callling. I have it installed in a 2003 Chevy S10 on stock speakers and it sounds great. So much better than the stock stereo and the old Pioneer I replaced it with. If you are looking for a budget stereo with reliable Bluetooth, buy this stereo. You will not find a better one in this price range. ... show more

  • Good sound quality considering price
Style: 616UAB
Replaced a stock AC DELCO unit in a 90 Buick Skylark. For the price, sound quality is amazing. It's a very basic unit with Bluetooth which is what I wanted. I was specifically avoiding bells and whistles. I have one complaint and one concern. My complaint is that the audio settings are a PITA to navigate to. You have to press the center button once to access the clock, then hold the center button to access settings which takes you through clock/time, illumination THEN to audio. It's annoying when you're driving and want to change the bass on the fly. My concern is that I rough installed and tested this when it was 28°F. After playing for 5 minutes at 70% volume the cooling fins/heatsink on the back of the unit was almost too hot to touch (165-175°F). I fear that excessive heat will effect this units reliability when fully installed in the dash and it's peak summer. Also, I wouldn't run this with subwoofers unless you plan to control EQ/filters externally. Settings are very basic (bass, treb, fade, balance). There are not channel specific filters, crossovers, 31 band eq, etc. this is a very basic unit but sounds great as a cheap upgrade from stock. ... show more

  • Works in my Shop
Style: 616UAB
I had an old CD AM/FM boom box, with a wired in auxiliary USB port, with four big, strategically located house speakers, serving as the music source in my shop. It finally got torched and died. I didn't want to invest too much in another sound system, just the essentials. An FM radio and a media player. I have no further use for CDs, or an elaborate receiver, they quickly become subject to sawdust, metal shavings, paint and flying sparks. This Boss Car Stereo was inexpensive enough to give it a try. I got a 15amp DC converter, and mounted it in a nice cabinet with a plexiglass cover. The convenience of its functions was well worth the price alone. It pushed the four big speakers to the max, with no sound distortion throughout. The equalizer offered just the right ambience to fill my entire shop. The remote, of course, is good for close range, as in a vehicle. But, great to skip through songs without going to the unit. And with the BT, iPhone I can be over 40' across the shop and it still functions. Its really straight forward to hook up. Most of the buttons/knobs are standard functions. I still have to scan the manual to do the more complex programing. The manual has a numbered illustration of the buttons, but I couldn't find a reference to their function, there is one for the remote. Maybe a missing page? One thing I noticed, when I put music on my USB, there was a slight skip and the beginning of each song. Maybe I'll give them a one or two second pause between songs. This Boss unit is light and small, but very big in performance features, and even looks classy. I'm ordering a few more to actually install in my service trucks. ... show more
