Like many other reviewers, I wanted to add modern infotainment features to my older 2008 model car. I searched Amazon for “Double DIN wireless CarPlay” and found this unit with over 3,000 positive reviews so I ordered one. The company offers to provide you a free update file which will include 4 startup logo images of your choice as well as 4 wallpaper images. You can use a logo of your car brand, model, or any photo you choose. Pretty cool! The wireless CarPlay works well, but does have a few quirks which I can easily live with for the price! For example, If using nav and playing music at the same time, CarPlay on factory units have a subtle lowering of the music volume or pausing entirely, and then Siri announces directions. On this unit, those announcements are sudden and in your face. Also on audio titles that have a long name, factory units I’ve used will scroll like a news banner to show all of the information, this unit only has a static image and displays whatever fits on the screen. If you want to use nav and listen to FM radio at the same time, I’ve not found a way to do this. I’ve also noticed that once my iPhone was synced / the unit will always default to CarPlay and starts playing. If you are not ready for music yet, or want to check FM radio, you have to stop it. Again, these are all minor annoyances at worst and easy to overlook for the cost. The display and touch features work fine, and sound quality is just as good as a factory system. There are plenty of user selectable features in the setup menu such as changing the backlighting color, choosing a screensaver clock, EQ, default volume settings for music and phone calls, etc. I have not connected the included backup camera so cannot comment on that yet. ... show more

This unit was easy to install in my 2006 Ford F-150 Lariat. Looks great and sounds awesome. The backup camera has a great picture. I emailed the company and they sent me a software update and Ford wallpaper to show on startup. Product is recommended. Great customer service!

Finally got around to installing this in my '05 Porsche Boxster. A caution to other Porsche (987/997) owners: if you get the Metra 911 dash kit, this stereo will NOT FIT in that kit without some extensive dremel work to the Metra kit. It’s just a few mm too wide. I had to dremel off the stereo’s trim attachments as well. It’s not the fault of the stereo. I just didn’t measure before I bought. The unit itself is your straightforward double DIN/half depth common with modern head units that don't have CD drives. Comes with just about everything you'd expect, including a backup camera, but no external mic. I'm guessing there's a mic on the face but the instructions don't say anything about one. I just know it it works for Hey Siri activation and BlueTooth audio calls. People on the other end say they can hear me just fine. I did not hook up the backup camera, because I am lazy. Pros Physical volume knob! And physical buttons for next track/previous track. Honestly the fact it has a physical volume knob and CarPlay were the two reasons I bought this unit. CarPlay works great. Screen response is a little laggy compared to the built-in unit in my Buick but it's fine. Despite no external microphone, AND the fact that it's a convertible, apparently people can hear me just fine on calls, as well as Hey Siri activation. Granted, that's with the top up, but I have no expectation that any unit would work with the top down so I haven't tried. My Boxster came with the Bose speaker system, which was more work to get working than your average system (and still has an annoying alternator whine, which is NOT this head unit's fault, it's just the dumb Porsche wiring). When driven by this head unit, it sounds phenomenal. The original Porsche system was meh, but that's because I had to listen through an FM transmitter. Now, with a proper head unit with BlueTooth/CarPlay, and a 16-band EQ, this thing sounds incredible. Cons The instructions are pretty minimal, which, whatever. Most things are very intuitive anyway. Uses ISO wiring colors. I wish it had wireless CarPlay, but alas it does not. So when I want my maps up, I have to plug in a cable. Such a first world problem, I know. Despite having customizable boot logos and wallpaper, there is no available tool or instructions on how to do it. You have to contact the company and send them what you want, and they'll send you back the files to do the boot logo. That seems completely unnecessary. Just give me a simple tool to do it myself, or even better, just let the thing accept your standard JPGs or PNGs and have a way to copy them to internal storage from a USB stick. That said, they got back to me with the boot image within a couple days (it was the weekend) and it looks awesome. The screen is decent but kind of dull, and a little laggy in the interface. In an enclosed cabin it's probably fine, but in an open top convertible it gets a little hard to see in the sun, and in direct sunlight you won't see anything. Just the nature of a convertible. Overall I am pretty happy with the unit. The sound quality is quite stellar, assuming your source isn't an mp3 from the late 90s. With my higher bitrate tracks, it has some fantastic clarity and staging. Definitely recommend as an upgrade from a stock system. ... show more
