  • Phenomenal value, great head unit, apple CarPlay works perfectly in my 2011 Toyota Prius
This unit is GREAT. Sounds amazing, easy to use, CarPlay works perfectly. I installed this with the METRA ASWC-1, and the "Panel Flush Mount Extension Cable,Car 3.5 mm USB 3.0 AUX Jack Extension Cable Lead Mounting Panel Headphone Male Jack Flush Mount Mounting Adapter"... Metra 95-8226B Dash Kit for Toyota Prius 2010 Double DIN (Black), Metra 70-1761 Radio Wiring Harness For Toyota 87-Up Power 4 Speaker, and the Rockford Fosgate P300-12. I ran "KabelDirekt RCA Stereo Cable/Cord (20 ft/feet Long, Dual 2 x RCA Male to 2 x RCA Male Audio Cable, Digital & Analogue, Double-Shielded, PRO Series) Supports (Amplifiers, AV Receivers, Hi-Fi)" and a 20ga remote wire. I used 8 GA cable and a circuit breaker at the battery for the RF amp. I was careful to read the directions thoroughly, soldered and shrink wrapped every connection, plugged it all in and it works perfectly. This combination allows every function to work, to include apple CarPlay, the AUX cable input, steering wheel controls, etc. It softens the blow of climbing into a Prius every day! ... show more

  • Great Value and works well.
Installed the radio in a 2005 Honda Accord below the factory radio. Also install steering wheel controls and backup camera at the same time. Install was pretty straight forward. Make sure to get the antenna extension as the radio plug is on the opposite side as the factory radio. Radio plug in is great for the Apple Carplay or bluetooth to just connect and play. Making calls is easy and sound great. Was quoted $1200 for a BB install. Was able to install for $350. Gave new life to a older car still in great condition. ... show more

  • Amazing Unit, Crappy Buttons
I’ve been using my Pioneer AVH-1400NEX for a week now, so I feel I can make a solid review on it. In general, this is a fantastic unit for the money. Carplay is great, Bluetooth is seamless, and video/sound quality is really good. One thing I didn’t know before hand is that THIS UNIT DOES NOT SUPPORT WIRELESS CARPLAY. Pioneer has other, more expensive units that do support wireless carplay, but this unit requires a USB connection. I find that I’m fine with this because I always have my phone charging in the car anyway. In the shade or at night, the display looks incredible. It really does feel like you’ve got a brand new car. However, during the daytime, the sunlight glare blocks the radio to where you can hardly see the screen. To combat this, I turned my brightness, contrast, and dimmer settings all the way up, and now I find that it works well during day and night. My biggest complaint with this unit is the buttons. These things are CHEAP. They don’t have a good click to them, and the home button on my particular unit is downright squishy (no click at all when you press it). I believe they just aren’t very well built, and they are also quite small, so you have to get used to finding them while driving and whatnot. Other than that, I’m super happy with this unit! I would also highly recommend ordering the $15 parking brake bypass as it will unlock all the features of this unit without needing to be in park, and it was very easy to install! ... show more

  • Great deck, great sound, and easy to install.
I just installed his deck into my 2000 Toyota Tacoma. It was pretty easy, just take your time doing it. It took me about 30 minutes, but I've taken apart the dash several times, so got to the deck in about five minutes. If you don't know how to, there are plenty of videos on YouTube. I would suggest watching a couple so you don't break anything. Be sure to get a wiring harness. Mine took the Metra 70-1761. And, get some wire connectors. Again, super easy, just take your time and make sure you double check the connections. You won't have any issues. I also bought the parking break bypass. It was easier to install that than to deal with the parking brake wire on the deck. The sound on the system is great. I have a tube sub-woofer in the back, and the sound this deck puts out is great. I'm very happy so far. ... show more

  • Quite happy AVH-1400NEX
I was tired of waiting for a lower priced wireless CarPlay receiver. The $236 for the DVD version convinced me to pull the trigger. Without the USB cable to iPhone: The Pandora app works decently over Bluetooth but sometimes requires launching from the iPhone if you were listening to some other audio app (Podcast, iHeart etc.). But a lot of the time it fires right up. I actually find the Bluetooth connection to Pandora connects better than selecting Pandora from the receiver. Siri works quite well when pressing the microphone button. You can ask about the weather, your next calendar appointment, launch navigation (however maps only launches on the phone screen if not USB tethered. I consider that great because the receiver screen can be for music and the phone for navigation). With the USB cable to iPhone: You get Google Maps, Apple Maps, Waze maps - all quite fast and responsive. The Apple texting app works awesome while tethered. Siri will read and then voice respond to text messages. The touch screen works quite well. Dims and brightens nicely if you wire the input. The USB connection is on the back so I can hide the wiring without the USB cable hanging off the front of the receiver. It comes with decent USB extension cable that I run in my console. I can swap a lightening cable for a micro USB cable whenever I wish. The USB port only charges when the deck is powered up. Easy to switch between the many preset graphic EQs and the two user custom EQs from Pandora. Pandora has six user selectable presets so you can quickly go between your favorite stations. The only thing I am not thrilled with is a legal prompt that happens every time the deck starts up. It does self clear if you ignore it. But, say you had the music loud when you shut the deck off. The volume controls are locked out (possibly blaring music) until that legal prompt clears. It has a cooling fan on the back of the receiver and it looks to be one that I could easily replace if ever needed. Can't talk about screen glare yet because the weather has been lousy lately. As I think of other things I like I will add later. But I really do enjoy this deck. If my commute was longer than eight minutes I would value it a lot more. ... show more
