I purchased this item because I have a Volkswagen, and every so often it decides to light up the dashboard like it’s hosting a rave. Normally that means I’m either driving to an auto parts store and begging someone to scan it, or worse-visiting the dealership where they charge you just to breathe on the property. I wanted something simple that lets me at least start the diagnostic process at home and get an idea of what’s going on before I waste half a day and a tank of gas. This little scanner surprised me. It turns on fast, the buttons make sense and it doesn’t feel flimsy or cheap. I’m not looking to perform open-heart surgery on the engine, I just want to know if my car is having a moment or a meltdown. And for that, this thing is perfect. It pulls the codes, gives you basic explanations so you’re not Googling in a panic, and even shows live data, which makes me feel far more official than I actually am. It’s lightweight, the cord is long enough without being obnoxious, and the screen is bright enough that I don’t need to squint like I’m cracking ancient runes. I don’t need a professional shop tool, just something that keeps me from running to the store at 8 p.m. in sweatpants. Mission accomplished. Overall, super handy to keep in the glove compartment, especially if you drive a VW that enjoys delivering jump scares. Highly recommend.

This is a nicely designed, high quality, easy to use OBD2 scanner tool. It has a clear, bright color display that is very easy to read. Buttons are responsive when moving through the menu options. I found it provides only basic data from a 2004 Oldsmobile, with much more data from a 2011 Toyota. I suspect that is due to the OBD2 capabilities of each of those vehicles. The battery test function actually charts and analyzes the battery voltage drop as the vehicle is started. Testing under load gives a much more meaningful battery health rating than simply measuring the static battery voltage. This scanner also has the ability to display and chart a variety of live engine PCM data elements. Again, charting over time can provide insights not seen in instantaneous data. The flexible cord is a good length to view the unit conveniently from either of the front seats or outside the driver's door. In my opinion, this OBD2 scanner is an incredible bargain at the black friday price, but the regular price is somewhat high when compared to some of the bluetooth ODB2 fobs that are now available.
