Description

The Storm 500 is engineered for epics in all conditions, featuring a robust waterproof/dustproof housing and 500 lumens of bright light. Powered by our BD 1500 Li-ion battery that’s charged by a micro USB, the Storm 500 R also features a sustainably made elastic headband with Repreve recycled textiles. The compact body is ergonomic, and the updated user interface includes a secondary switch for easy mode selection. In addition, the updated optical efficiency not only provides brighter light, but also saves battery life that you can now easily track with a six-setting, three-LED battery meter. The Storm 500 R also has three different colored night vision modes and peripheral white lighting for close-range activities like carefully re-racking for the final summit pitch in the dark. The headlamp has our Brightness Memory feature, which allows you to turn the light on and off at a chosen brightness without reverting back to the default, full power setting. The Storm 500 R's PowerTap Technology enables you to quickly and easily access maximum brightness with the touch of a finger.

With trail running at 5am during the fall/ winter, I need more light, so this 500 lumen does the trick! Has a dimmer setting (continuously variable) and a hi/low setting with a “tap” on the side. I upgraded to this light after the battery latch was broken on my 400. This light is very bright and seem to work well . I will say that it does take a while to charge and you can't put batteries in it for backup so one must be mindful of that.

    • I REALLY like this headlamp, except for one feature.

I really like this headlamp. The battery life is great. The way you adjust the brightness is great. Hold the right button down and it gets brighter until it flashes, that means it's at its brightest, hold it again and it dims until it flashes, now it's at its dimmest. That works on all 3 modes, spot, flood and color led. Red, blue and green leds are a pretty cool feature, although I can't think of a reason for using blue and green, I still like having them. Even the band is pretty decent. The one thing I don't like, I really don't like. There's a feature that lets you swipe from back to front on the ride side of the lamp to insanely turn the brightness on full. Whoever came up with this idea has probably never worn a headlamp for more than a few minutes. In the 2 weeks I've owned this lamp I've used that feature 1 time, however, I've accidentally used it and blinded myself about a hundred times. Every time I adjust it, I accidentally turn it on and fry my retinas. Unfortunately there's no way to turn this feature off. I'm sure in certain situations this feature would come in handy, not for me though. ... show more

I'm wondering how I ever got along without it!! It's great to have access to a bright, long-lasting, hands-free, light source when playing motorcycle mechanic in my poorly lit garage. I charged it when it arrived and haven't had to charge it since despite using it fairly frequently over the last few weeks. I have not measured the actual time of use, but it seems to hold a charge for a good long while. The light level adjustability just works and I love that it can be locked in the power off position to prevent accidentally turning it on while in your bag. I also love being able to wave my hand on the side of the unit for instant max brightness. It is light weight enough to be hardly noticeable on my head. Buttons are fairly intuitive and the unit appears to be very well constructed. I'd buy it again in a heartbeat. Highly recommend. ... show more

I’ve had this headlamp for 2 months and it worked very well initially. Bright and easy. It no longer can hold a charge and shows that it is fully charged when I plug it in. I have tried multiple chargers thinking it may be the cord - with no change. It works when plugged in. But will not turn on at all when not plugged into power source. Will not buy Black Diamond products thru Amazon again - I will go to the website directly ... show more
