  • Why pay more?
Size: 3 HP
My Hayward 2700 HP display stop functioning. Their customer service was so hard to deal with. I researched and found this Black& Decker 3 HP pool motor. It's over $1,000 cheaper than the Hayward and you get better quality and a better warranty. The install was easy and simple. I am running it for now until I set the schedule. I'm extremely happy with the purchase. ... show more

  • Best Pool Pump Ever - Hands Down!
Size: 1.5 HP
Why did you pick this product vs others?: Best pool pump I've ever seen. Replaced an old Hayward dinosaur with this sleek new pump. It is so quiet and has a built-in timer, like a modern pool pump needs to have. Also, the filter valve is so easy to use, no more unscrewing knobs. I'd highly recommend it! ... show more

  • Highly Recommend
Size: 2 HP
I purchased the 2HP in June 2024. It worked perfectly. Just under one year of use, the control panel went out. I filled out the online form on a Sunday morning. They responded within 30 minutes and got me a new on in the mail. I received it Thursday, and I am back in business. That is top notch customer service. ... show more

  • Early Days, but Is Working Well
Size: 2 HP
My pool pump broke and it took a while to decide if I wanted a professional to replace it or if I should get a friend who is experienced to do it. I opted for the friend, who said it wasn’t hard to install. I bought it based on the five year warranty, so they better honor it if it breaks. The pool is looking much better after just one day of the 28 hour program. I like that it has a set program to run each day. I haven’t gotten my electric bill yet, but I hope the energy star label means it won’t be extremely high. ... show more

  • DO NOT BUY!
Size: 2 HP
FINAL UPDATE: My solution to all of the below was to install a wifi switch in line with the power supply. Specifically, I used this switch: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07FPCJ1L4?ref=ppx_yo2ov_dt_b_product_details&th=1. After water-proofing the switch, wiring it in, and connecting it to my wifi, I then programmed the switch to cycle the power every morning, with a 5 minute delay between OFF and ON. This has fixed the problem of the pump electronics freezing up every five-or-so days. I know it's a total hack, but I now have a reliable pump. I also picked up some new functionality. I can now operate the pump from my phone as a single-speed pump. I can also write a routine that turns the pump ON when the temp falls below a certain level, and back OFF when the temp increases. I know the pump has built-in freeze protection, but it turns on when the temp falls below 40F, which is way too high. Also, I suspect that my activating the freeze protection on the pump is what caused all the other issues I experienced, i.e. caused the pump electronics to randomly start freezing up. I am still leaving the 1-star rating, because you shouldn't have to hack a brand-new pump in order to make it work, but at least I am content now. The short of it, only buy this pump if you're willing/able to do some additional hacking after install. UPDATE 2: This is my fourth review for this pump. I started at 5 stars, dropped it to 3 stars, then 2, and now I am at 1 star. The short of it is this pump IS NOT RELIABALE! As others have stated (read the other 1-star reviews), the pump frequently becomes unresponsive and quits working. In my previous reviews I expressed concern about the pump electronics freezing up while I am on travel. Well, I just got back from a two-week, summer vacation, and my pool was a green swamp. Sure enough, the pump electronics froze up while I was out of town. Had this happened during the winter months, I could have potentially experienced thousands of dollars in freeze damage. Although the pump is powerful, and it is quiet, it IS NOT RELIABLE. The pump is worthless to me, if I can't count on it to run when I tell it to. I am going to try the whole customer service/warranty route, but given what I have read (again, 1-star reviews), that is likely going to be a waste of my time. Now, not only am I out $1,000 for an unreliable/worthless pump, I have to spend $2,500 for one that actually does work! I REGRET PURCHASING THIS PUMP. UPDATE 1: There have been two times, within the last week, that I have walked out and noticed the pump running at very low speed (1000 rpm). None of the 4 speeds I have programmed are at 1000 rpm. I have no idea why it's doing this, and then when I shut it off and restart the program schedule, it doesn't run the schedule, I looked in the manual for instructions on how to do a factory reset, but I can't find any. I am beginning to suspect my pump is defective. I am really not looking forward to going through the whole warranty process. The pump has only been installed for 6 weeks! Now, I am starting to regret my purchase. RE-WRITE: Although I do not regret purchasing and installing this pump, I am not nearly as happy with it as I was originally. I have two main issues with the pump. One, it cannot be controlled via RS485, which means I have to either rely on a programmed schedule, or I have to walk over to the pump and manually turn it on each time. Two, the scheduling doesn't always work. The pump frequently ends up in an unresponsive state, which requires its power to be cycled via the electrical panel. I still haven't figured out what exactly causes it to become unresponsive, but power outages appear to be *one* of the reasons. I am now worried that the pump will become unresponsive during a freeze, while I am out of town. If this happens, the cost of the damage caused by freezing pipes will far outweigh the money I saved going with this pump. Fortunately, I don't have any plans to travel this upcoming winter, so I will be able to babysit it during its first encounter with freezing temperatures. If it does fine, then maybe I will feel better about it again, but for now, I remain concerned about its reliability. ORIG: My original, 5-star review was rejected by Amazon because I included an off-site link. I had a lot of nice things to say on the day I installed it. Little did I know ... ... show more

  • Excellent Programmable Pump
Size: 1.5 HP
Bought back in 2021. This is actually my second. The first one had an issue on the first install with a leaky pump. Getting a replacement was easy and it's been solid ever since. Great programmable multispeed pump! Programming is a bit odd but it's set and forget once it's done.

  • Better than Hayward
Size: 1.5 HP
I replaced my Hayward pump and Part 7-164302-24 Century Centurion 1.13 HP pump motor with this Black and Decker pump. The original pump was 11 years old and developed a seal leak. Not only that, it was running hot ... too hot to touch after several hours of use. This pump is so much better. I chose the 1.5 HP over the 2.0 HP. The reason is that my pool is small (9,000 gallons) but even more, it draws 7 amps max at 220 volts so all my wiring is just fine. Even better, this new pump is variable speed and has four program states that let you fine tune your water flow on a timed bases. Example : State 1 : Come on at 8:00 am and cut off at 10:00 am and run at 3400 rpm. State 2 : Optional. Run from 12:00 noon till 4:00 pm at 2000 rpm. State 3 : Optional. Run from 8:00 pm to 9:00 pm at 3000 rpm. State 4 : Optional. Do nothing, stay turned off. This cycle will repeat if you you keep the equipment in AUTO mode. You can also turn on and off the pump in MANUAL mode with the press of a button. You can easily switch between AUTO and MANUAL modes. Word of advice ... keep the box until you make sure the unit works properly and you complete the registration on the Black and Decker website. The box has the info you need on it. Model : BDXBTVAR150 S/N : X0030xxxxx (example) Product Code Date : 22031xxxxx (example) I replaced the last 5 digits with small letter x. This gives you an idea what B&D is looking for. Additional info : My pool plumbing is 1-1/2 inch. It comes with adapters. If you have 2 inch pipes, it will work with the supplied adapters or you can thread in your existing couplings. If you use the the 1-1/2 inch adapters be sure you slide on the female coupling onto the pipe before you glue the pipe to the connector. Pro Tip: If you are doing a new install, use a 90 "sweep" versus a 90 coupling. This allows a smoother water flow. For me, I could not use a sweep, I had to use a 90 degree coupling. Another name for "sweep" is "elbow". It is a 90 degree curved pipe instead of a sharp short 90 degree coupling. I wouldn't worry either way because with good plumbing joints and proper water flow it really shouldn't matter that much. Just saying. Final note : More and more, as I get older, I am getting away from certain brands of tools and equipment. I am sticking with Craftsman and Black and Decker. I own some 50 year old Craftsman hand tools and now 20 year old Black and Decker power tools. It's a personal preference, but it's why I choose this pump. ... show more
