I really like my new trimmer over the gas powers model I've been using for years. The position and shape of the guard shield stops hidden hard objects in the grass or along the fence line from dinging your ankles. However, if you have to trim between stakes of recently planted trees, the size of the shield does limit the trimming and can be awkward to maneuver without damaging the tree bark. Good power with the provided battery. However, I installed a higher Amph battery and it seems like I got more power to the head. I minor negative for me was the length of the shaft to the trimmer head. An accessory to add 2-4 inches to the shaft would be nice as it would mean a person with back problems could stand more upright and not stress the lower back with a bent over position. With regard to battery life, after charging the provider 20v battery to full power, I was able to trim over 500 feet of fencing, tree and landscaping borders on one charge. I wish, however, that the battery had an LED indictor bar to show the amount of charge remaining so I don't caught with an exhausted battery hundreds of feet away from the battery storage station in the garage. I can't speak about how long they will last because I've only had them for a month or so, but in that time I have used them a few times and they work very well. It would be nice if the battery lasted a little longer but I bought a spare battery so that's not a major issue. In the past, I have had a couple of gasoline-powered trimmers and, after the first year I had trouble getting them to start, and the last one that I had was a corded one. I live on a farm and have a gas powered weed eater. I bought this weed eater to use around the house and outbuildings. Being battery powered it is much easier to get ready to use. It is light weight and seems to be strong enough to take care of the light trimming I ask of it.

This is the best trimmer I have ever bought. It's lightweight and super easy to use. It isn't as powerful as some trimmers but it's strong enough to get the job done. I also love how easy it is to change out the plastic string. I would totally buy this again.

Great light- to medium-duty unit. It's very rare that I use the power mode. Does a good size yard on a single charge, and being part of the 20v B+D system, a lot of you (like myself) have extra batteries at the ready if you do need more run time. This interchangeability is what drove me to give cordless electric tools a shot, and the convenience has me wondering why I didn't do this sooner. I've also been very pleased with my decision to buy into the Black+Decker ecosystem--they're the perfect balance of affordability and performance/quality for the typical home owner, including those with acreages. Now, a confession: I don't know how the line feed system works. It just always seems to work by itself. There's a button on the top of the unit that seems to act like a brake, and judging by the graphic, it seems like it should have something to do with the line feed... but I don't bother with it because it seems to feed it on its own. My one complaint, and this is possibly due to me not understanding the feed mechanism (yes, I'm lazy), is that sometimes upon revving up, the string violently slaps the guard for a bit, settling down after a few seconds. Not a big deal, and probably user error, but annoying nonetheless. I finally used the whole line spool that came with the unit, so maybe it's time to bust out the manual and figure out if I'm using it wrong.. ... show more
