  • Lots of power
Style: 40V String Trimmer Kit
I have a rather large yard, and this trimmer’s charge lasts long enough to do the whole thing at one time. It is sturdy, light weight, and easy to use.

  • Excellent Trimmer
Style: 40V String Trimmer Kit
Easy to put together. Lightweight. Cuts well. Very easy to replace nylon string. Very good battery life. I’ve had other brands, B&D is the best!

  • This Black & Decker 40V Trimmer has changed.
Style: 40V String Trimmer Kit
I have had three others, starting with 20V. I admittedly overuse it, so it only lasts a couple of seasons or so. But it's my favorite brand by far. So I was very disappointed in this year's model. It no longer has speed setting. It appears to run on the second or third speed only and the battery doesn't last as long. The handle is thicker (not good for my small hands) and the handle won't stay in place. It still performs strongly, but I wonder if it will last two seasons on this higher speed. ... show more

  • Incredibly powerful and lightweight
Style: 40V String Trimmer Kit
Very easy to use just plug in the battery and go. Battery lasts quite a while and is quite powerful. The ability to quickly switch it between edger and trimmer with one hand is amazing. Gaurd provided pretty good protection from rocks and debris

  • Does a good job, but...
Style: 40V String Trimmer Kit
As with most everything, it seems these are of lesser quality with each passing summer season. They work well and do a great job. Extremely lightweight and easy to handle and operate. When not in use, the main shaft retracts somewhat and locks into place and the handle folds down. Very handy to store and takes up less space. Even though I only use this for light yardwork (nothing excessive), I have to replace mine each Spring as the motor tends to overheat and burn out. Just my personal experience with this item. Yours may vary. ... show more

  • Easy to use
Style: 40V String Trimmer Kit
In general I like the product very much. Wish the battery life would last longer. Going to check into another battery or buy a secondary battery.

  • Works well; worth the money!
Style: 40V String Trimmer Kit
This is my second cordless black and decker and I just love it. The battery lasts much longer and it definitely gets the job done. No complains here. Highly recommend.

  • Missing Several Important Features Found on 20 Volt B+D Model
Style: 40V String Trimmer Kit
If all you want is a simple plastic string based trimmer with an on/off switch, then this is an adequate horizontal grass cutter with a reasonably strong battery for a power source. I do not consider it to be an edger with that flip back wire gadget. Furthermore, this is neither the highest power nor the best value lithium battery based trimmer Black & Decker makes. In fact, this is a considerable step backward and de-evolution while costing extra. Don’t get me wrong. I have about every battery powered Black & Decker lawn tool they make and most of their power tools as well. It is the only brand I purchase. I started with their 18 Volt and 36 Volt lineup and then I realized Black & Decker seemed to be standardizing on the 20 Volt tool line. So I sold my 18 Volts tools and bought heavily into their 20 Volts tools. I still own their 36 Volt blower/vacuum tool. I’m still of the 20 Volt mindset except I now own a Black & Decker 60 Volt lawn mower and there it makes sense to go to a higher voltage and amperage for more power. Pros: • It has a half-inch larger cutting radius – not a noticeable difference. Cons: • The dual speed or dual power switch is gone. • The push button automatic string feed button is gone. • The very important wheel that supports edging is gone. • It costs $27 more than the well featured 20 Volt version. • The battery power is the same as the 20 Volt version. • The 40 Volt battery will not fit the 60 Volt/20 Volt fast charger. • Battery charging time is about 4 hours after cool down. But you say the battery voltage is double that of the 20 Volt battery. It’s marketing. That is indeed true, but that is only half the equation of power. Power is Voltage multiplied by Current (Amperage). The 40 Volt battery that came with this trimmer has only a 1.5 Ampere Hour rating. The newest 20 Volt trimmer I purchased a few days ago came with a 3.0 Amp Hour rating. They can each produce 60 Watts of power for one hour – the exact same power. My trimmer I bought in April 2014 has all the same features as the new model except for the automatic string feed button and I have a 4.0 Amp Hour battery on it. That’s 80 Watts. It runs okay with an 1.5 Amp Hour battery, too. I have over ten fully charged 20 Volt batteries. I own all three of these Black & Decker string trimmers in the photos. So I know the pros and cons of each firsthand. After I received this 40 Volt trimmer and suddenly realized all the main features were missing, I actually purchased a new Black & Decker 20 Volt string trimmer with a 3.0 Amp Hour battery here on Amazon for $73 (verified purchase) and it arrived yesterday in time to trim and edge my yard. Saturday is lawn mowing day. The main advantage? The wheel makes edging around the driveway and street curb and along the concrete foundation of my home so much easier. That thick steel wire is absolutely no substitute for a wheel. I detect a trend that Black & Decker is trying to obsolete the wheel. That wire gadget means you have to support the full weight of this trimmer to do edging. I have a long steep driveway and a wide street frontage. I’m 73, not that I’m weak, but I have ten screws bolted to a metal plate into 5 of the 8 vertebras in my neck. Straining makes the already severe pain much worse. If you hold the 20 Volt battery end of the edger in your right hand and walk forward, the edger almost becomes self propelled. The rotation of the spool and the emerging plastic string hitting against the ground helps pull the edger forward. And the wheel reduces the friction enough to make it move noticeably in you favor. You can literally feel it help pull the edger forward. BLACK+DECKER LSTE523 20V Max Lithium POWERCOMMAND Easy Feed String Trimmer/Edger I hope Black & Decker will reinvent the wheel on the 40 Volt tools if they plan to duplicate their 20 Volt tool lineup. I believe they are making a huge mistake. I own 5 of their 40 Volt batteries and two of them are for a 40 Volt lawn mower. If you can at all afford the 60 Volt lawn mower, buy it. It’s batteries are much more powerful than these 40 Volt batteries. From my standpoint, all my tool needs, including power, are already met with the 20 Volt lineup. I own the 60 Volt lawn mower, too. It’s very good and I can mow my entire yard with one pair of batteries that both mount into the lawn mower at the same time. Not so for the 40 Volt version. The 40 Volt lawn mower can only mow slightly over half my yard and then I must wait over four hours not including an hour of cool off time to charge the batteries for the other half. Buy the 60 Volt lawn mower. Each 60 Volt battery produces 2.5 Amp hours or 150 Watts of power. No contest. Again, I am a solid Black & Decker advocate backed up with ownership of a considerable majority of their tools. However, be sure you know what you are getting before you buy a particular product. Black & Decker has some exceptional tools in every category and I have never had any of my tools fail – except for a recent DOA 60 Volt battery that’s currently being replaced on warranty (not for my lawn mower). My 4 year old batteries still run like new. They do not show the slightest indication of losing power. However, I’m losing my power. ... show more
