  • Great saw, buy with confidence
Style: 40V Chainsaw Kit
I have been very happily surprised at how well this saw performs. When it arrived and I pulled it out of the box I could tell by look on my wife's face that she was convinced I had wasted money on it. I was quick to tell her about all the five star reviews but I have to admit I certainly had my doubts as well. We have a couple of acres of woods to clean up with a lot of cedar, mostly dead and has been for quite a few years I would guess. I was planning using this saw for the small stuff and use my gas saw for all of the larger trees but this saw cuts so good and the batteries last so long I have been cutting a lot of fairly large timber. Cedar is very dense but this little saw does very well, not as fast as a gas saw of course but since it so light and very little vibration you can cut for quite a while and not get worn out. The only drawback to the saw is the lightweight though, the weight of a gas saw keeps the saw from jumping around and helps with the downward cutting action. I have several of the 40 volt B&D yard tools and am happy with all of them. This saw is a great buy ... show more

  • Great yard saw good power long battery life
Style: 40V Chainsaw Kit
I have a lot or down trees and limbs to deal with ,still left over from Sandy . and post several major surgeries and I am over 70 and have some numbness and osteo arthritis in back, legs and wrists(can't use a motorcycle because of bad throttle control) A little history I use to to my brush clearing with a 3.5 inch 19.2 battery circular saw and a 19.2 sawsall. Great for 1 to 3 inch limbs. But still had to fall back on the gas (pull your arm off to start) chainsaw. . Then black and decker had a sale on 18v yard tools 6 inch alligator saw and 10 inch chain saw . They worked better but needed lots of extra batteries . Then b&d came out with the 20 v lithium battery tools the 10 inch chain saw worked longer ( my wife uses it all the time due to its Light weight) . In 2014 I checked out the sears craftsman 10 in chainsaw with the 19.2 lithium battery defiantly had more power but still need extra batteries for big jobs. I am in the middle off major downed tree and limb work . So I thought I would give this b& d 12 inch 40 v a try . It works real well l cut several 6 inch logs like butter an did not run out of juice Definitely a keeper , beats out the 20 v 10 inch and the sears 19.2 volt saws (but I will keep them) but I still love the alligator saw for up to 5 inches it make quick work of low branches that whack me in the face when I am lawn mowing through the woods . If I had to replace it I would go with the 20 v lithium . I you only could afford one saw go go the b&d 40 v you cannot go wrong. ... show more

  • Great chainsaw with one major flaw....
Style: 40V Chainsaw Kit
I was very surprised at just how good this little cordless chain saw cuts. I've taken down several good-size trees and it was so nice to just push a button and instantly start cutting. My gas-powered chainsaw was always difficult to start and wouldn't idle long before dying Plus, it was heavy and extremely loud and the only thing I still owned that needed 2 cycle oil/gas to operate. This 40V beauty is instantly available so just cutting a limb or two is a simple and quick chore. Obviously, it can't cut all day like a gas powered model nor should it be used to take down a sequoia - that's not what it was designed for anyway. The battery lasted an incredibly long time but also took several hours to fully charge. Still, a wonderful addition to my growing list of 40V tools. Now for the single bad thing: This saw leaves puddles of fluid like an incontinent puppy! Long after you finish using it, the bar oil keeps leaking out. It's as if the oil reservoir is shedding it's entire contents. After use, set it down on several newspapers for several days where it can't damage anything as it leaks away. While reading the ratings I saw many reviews complaining about this problem. They are not exaggerating! I can't say that ALL of them do this, but mine definitely does. I have several large oil stains on my garage floor to prove it. Henceforth, I am going to tip the saw sideways and pour the remaining oil from the reservoir into a container. I can't imagine that all that oil came just from what was already on the chain. This surely has to be a defect in the oiler mechanism not shutting off the flow after you stop using it. If it wasn't for that, this review would be a solid 5. ... show more
