Description

For high-powered, gas-free sawing, the BLACK+DECKER 12-Inch 40V MAX Cordless Lithium-Ion Chainsaw is the lightweight, electric chainsaw to get the job done. Part of the 40V MAX outdoor system, this chainsaw is made with a 12” OREGON low- kickback bar and chain for smooth, fast cuts. With a full charge, the battery can last for an average of 60 4x4’ lumber cuts. A built-in automatic oiling system makes lubricating the bar and chain simple, and the chain tension can be adjusted without tools. For increased safety, a front hand guard protects from debris and a lock-off button prevents accidental activation. The included guide bar scabbard protects the blade when not in use. This lightweight unit is even easier to maneuver thanks to wrap-around grip handles that allow for a variety of angles. For easy, untethered sawing, the 12” Cordless Lithium-Ion Chainsaw will be your go-to for years to come. Maximum initial battery voltage (measured without a workload) is 40V. Nominal voltage is 36V.

  • Pefect for backyard clean-ups
Style: 40V Chainsaw (Tool Only)
Love it! I wouldn't try to cut down the mightiest tree in the forest with it, but for saplings and smaller branches (3-4 inches), it works great. Lightweight, compact, and easy to handle. Battery life is excellent. So much more pleasant to use and much quieter than my old gas saw. Even my wife could use this with no difficulty. Great product, recommended. ... show more

Style: 40V Chainsaw Kit
This is awesome. I have several B&D tools with the 40V battery so I always have a few charged and ready so I don't worry about run time so much. Also if I'm going to do a lot or something really big I'll bring out the gas saw but for quick jobs though this is hard to beat, nice and quiet too. Keep the blade sharp and it goes through hardwood like butter. Very happy with this. I have several 40V batteries and the oldest one won't really work on this anymore. It just lacks the power, it runs the blower fine, but the saw bogs down on thicker cuts. With the newest high capacity battery it's a beast cutting through 10 inch logs no problem. For people reporting power issues it most likely is a battery issue. I have no issues with leaking oil. I hang the saw up by the handle with the bar hanging down. Doesn't leak a drop. It's not that hard to empty the oil after use though. Edit 4/4/2020 - I replaced the chain with one from Oregon, that made this thing a beast. I'm giving up on my gas powered Poulan. The gas engines are just a pain. I'm not sure what is clogged, but I couldn't get it to run steady. The Black and Decker has limitations on a 12 inch cut, but that handles most of what I need. I may look at a larger battery powered saw, but I have to say this tackles some pretty big projects and I give out before the battery does. It finished the job I brought the gas saw out for with no issues. ... show more

  • Good chain saw withing its limits.
Style: 40V Chainsaw Kit
One thing I have to say right off is that this will not replace a gas chain saw. For bigger jobs, only a gas chain saw has the power and fuel capacity to complete a full-size tree felling and cutting up. Having said that, this is an excellent saw for smaller jobs and I just love its ease of use. In my late 50s, I don't enjoy the fight to start a gas chain saw and this electric model is just fantastic! There's little vibration and little noise compared to a gas model. You slap the battery in and go! No fuss and no pulling the starter handle X times until start on a gas model. It's a joy to use. AS you can see from the pics, I had a standing tree of about 10" which was probably a little bigger than I should have used it on, but this was a test after all. The second pic shows the tree lying on the ground. As you can see from the third pic, there was some leakage of oil over time I never really noticed until I looked down at my pants! The next two pics show the number of drums I cut on one battery charge while the last shows the diameter of the cuts I was making. The battery life was actually good considering the thickness of the tree it had to saw through and I got the hardest part done. The battery is the real constraint and wish I had bought another, but they're like $50 a piece! If my first project had been a smaller tree, it probably would have finished it. But, frankly, I would have liked to have another battery. I got a late start in the day so, by the time the battery was charged, it was getting on in the evening and I didn't finish it. I'll finish tomorrow. How does it cut? Very well, but when it bogs down due to too much pressure by me, it just quits. You just have to back off a little, start it again, and go slower. I was disappointed by how much it cut just at the same time I was impressed by how much it cut. It clearly isn't a replacement for my 18" Stihl gas powered saw, but it sure reduces the number of occasions I'll have to reach for it on the wall of the garage! One thing I need to point out is that it does not have a chain brake. What looks like a chain brake is just a hand guard. You do have to push a button on top the handle before you can pull the throttle trigger as a safety feature. Also, it uses bar and chain oil rather quickly due to the small size of the reservoir and the small amount of leakage. Adjusting or tightening the chain is very easy. It's very easy to turn the retainer screw assembly and then turn the adjustment wheel to move the bar in and out to tighten and loosen the chain tension. Be sure to check that frequently just as you would a gas model. Always use eye protection, by the way! On the whole, I'm happy with this chain saw so far. If you have the money, get a second battery! It's a good choice for small jobs and as a companion to a gas model for a second person to cut branches off or clean up. ... show more

  • Uses Oil but performs
Style: 40V Chainsaw Kit
First things first! I'm a first time chainsaw user writing my first time review. First thing about the chainsaw is it's a heavy drinker - Yep, just like the other reviewers said. it's a real guzzler, a true OIL-AHOLIC! Not having experience with chainsaw use I honestly don't know what the other saws oil use is like but I would definitely recommend OAA (oil aholics anonymous) for this guy...lol. I bought the Gallon of oil at menards, and with all I have to do year round, I will get 2 more gallons. I used 1 1/2 cups of oil (12 oz) in 20 mins time. That being said, I think it's a good tool. I just can't afford to keep paying guys to come out and do these small tasks at giant prices and don't show up on time, so I tried my hand at it. It's a lot faster than a regular hand saw and will cut the stuff my cordless hedge trimmer won't tackle. It also accumulates debris rather quickly like another review said, but its easy to clean out. Also for the sound, I was expecting really loud, I even ordered the ear buffer helmet. But it turned out to be about the same as my hedge trimmer - I was pleasantly surprised and very thrilled. I still use the helmet for safety. I read nearly all reviews and thankful for them all and I watched some YouTube videos on how to use and handle. I also gained a respect for guys who do work with chainsaws and I understand better now about importance of kickback and safety and how much time it takes to do the job safely. I'm happy with it being able to cut long pieces down to YW Bag size. I'm a person in the late 60 to 70's age. I would recommend to others with advice of get good knowledge first, and follow all instructions. I bought an extra chain for whenever future so I have on hand. Something else good to know is that the 1.5 40V my leaf blower uses would not crank the chainsaw so be sure if you buy an extra battery or tool with a battery, make sure its the same 2.0 40V that comes with the saw. I rate it 5 stars because I can handle it and it's not loud like a regular chainsaw. Only negative is how fast I had to add more oil - but the battery outlasted what I did that day. ... show more
