  • Negative reviews
What you really need to know. Let me first comment on the negative reviews, horrible smell, glass door breaks, toaster burns a lot of toast, and the knobs aren’t marked. I admit there was a terrible smell when we first started using this toaster where I thought I definitely need to return. The smell goes away, maybe a week. I have no concerns with glass breaking at all and neither should you. Burnt toast, definitely a possibility but you’ll figure out how far to turn the dial and will easily avoid in future toasting, and finally unmarked knobs. Yes the knobs are unmarked, take a sharpie and mark them. If you can live with those easily solvable issues than I have to say it’s exactly what you’d expect from a toaster. It toasts faster than the other B&D, you can cram in extra slices and maybe get away with 6 inside. I think for $40 bucks you can’t go wrong. You can heat up all the other stuff. Comes with the cooking tray and the crumb catch tray. I’ve had it 6 months now. ... show more

  • Tried and true!
You can’t go wrong with any run of the mill B&D toaster over like this. I grew up with these things and they always seemed to last forever. So when I got a fancy schmancy expensive toaster oven with buttons and settings out the yin yang as a wedding present, I thought I’d upgraded big time. I was big wrong. The damn thing took ages just to toast (which is the main use) and always dried out the toast. It wasn’t even all that great as a mini oven for other uses... everything just dried out and took way too long. So in a fit of frustration, I went for the cheapest option and grabbed a B&D toaster oven and couldn’t be happier. It toasts fast, doesn’t dry anything out, takes up less counter space, it lasts forever, and it’s pretty much idiot proof. “But which one is better?” You ask. All the 4 slice (and probably all 6 slice) toaster ovens from B&D are just reskinned versions of the same thing. They make the same toaster they did 30 years ago. So pick whichever one you think looks best, because no matter what gimmicky phrases it may plaster on the box, it’s the same as every other model. It just works. Love it ... show more

  • Great, flexible little oven
This is a great, basic toaster oven. I hesitated to get it because of some negative comments here, but I'm glad I did buy it. It combines all the necessary toaster oven functions (toast, bake) with a couple more (broil, warm) that I never had before. Plus, it has a removable crumb tray! This is really nice because I live in an apartment and don't want bugs taking up residence. Two negatives I read about were: 1 - The indicators on the knobs are hard to read accurately. This is true, but easy to fix. I took some red nail polish and put a dot on the right end of the indicator line. 2 - The oven runs too hot. Yes, the top Toast temperature was too hot for what I wanted. But, this is the top end, and I can adjust it to anywhere I want. I can put the temp in the baking range if that's what I need (450 works well for frozen bread so the outside doesn't get toasted before the inside is thawed). I can find the range that works for what I'm making. If I need really hot, though, I can get that. The oven is not huge (again, I live in an apartment) and it's light, so I can put it on top of the fridge to get it out of the way if needed. ... show more

  • Still the same old reliable toaster oven
Our old toaster oven finally bit the dust...after 20+ years. It looked exactly like this one, except it was a little taller. Leave it to Black & Decker to continue to make a quality product and not mess around with something that works! It's so nice to be able to find that I can buy the same reliable product again with no fuss! It did have a little bit of a funny smell the first time we turned it on. No problem, we just left it on for about 25-30 minutes to let it burn off and we were good to go! It works like a charm and so glad that we are back in business! We use our toaster oven probably once a day, so it gets a good workout in our house. Black & Decker...wish their R&D department was in charge of other items! ... show more

  • To keep or return?
I really haven't I used it yet because I'm waffling between keeping it or sending it back for another model. The primary reasons I don't like it are: 1) The door is flimsy. It feels as if someone in the assembly line forgot to put a spring on it so it closes properly, and, 2) I wish they were more definitive when it came to indicating which way you turn the dials. If I keep it I will have to put a drop of paint on them indicating which way they should point. ... show more

  • The smell.... the texture... o my lord
As a college student, using the microwave has become second nature and ever since summer break ended all the food I warm up now pales in comparison to the food that I would eat cooked by my mother at home(during summer break). So, after pondering on the idea of a Microwave oven, I finally decided to act on it. It is said, that on the 6th day god made the heavens and on the 7th he was so dang tired, Blackdecker oven said sit down god, I'll do the rest of the work, you just eat this nice warm briny crispy succulent ham sandwich that I toasted and god took Blackdecker's advice and that's how man kind was created. ... show more

  • Works Great, Reasonably Priced
I've been using this regularly for toast, heating frozen French bread pizza, heating frozen fish sticks, reheating things that don't reheat well in the microwave and so forth for weeks now. I'm very happy with the results. I put foil on the metal tray when heating frozen items to make clean up super fast. The only thing I wasn't crazy about is that the control knobs weren't marked very well so I had to lean in to about four inches from them until I decided to dab a little red nail polish on the "business end" of them and now I can see them with no trouble at all. The price was good, the performance is great. I'm very happy with it. ... show more

  • Exactly as expected.
Product arrived on time. Was exactly what I expected it to be. However, the package insert said I had to register it. When I tried on the website given I was not able to register it. When I contacted them via a chat box, telling the peraon online that my product number was not on the drop down list ( they had multiple Black and Decker 4 piece ovens but the product code on mine was not in the list) The chatter told me they no longer required me to register it - strange but, what can I do. Im guessing it is a lower quality oven and they do not warranty i but again that is my guess. ... show more
