I have a smaller version of this appliance for 2 years now that I use for myself. (It only makes one waffle square or filled sandwich, or panini.) I got this one as a gift for someone who will appreciate the double size - twice as much food cooked in same amount of time. Hands down the best feature is the different, removable plates. They make for easy cleanup, and versatile choices for cooking. They aren't the best 'non-stick' surfaces, but food generally doesn't stick much. A wee bit of butter or oil goes a long way to help that. That it's so simple to use is a big pro, and a slight con. It really only turns on and off. No heat settings, and no timer. I've had enough experience with small appliances like these to know it takes about 2 minutes for, say, a waffle. So you have to time what you're cooking, and learn as you go for how much time specific foods need. Grilled cheese or filled sandwich also only takes 2 minutes, and is heated through, even when stuffed full. I have even used it to heat food without bread, since the plates have some depth and can be easily cleaned. I did test the 'gift' unit with 2 slices of white bread on the panini plates - it toasted the bread evenly and well, but only on the bottom. Because a single slice of bread isn't tall enough to fill the space, it didn't touch the top plate so the top didn't toast. Food needs to touch both plates to toast or brown completely on both top and bottom. That might explain reviews where waffles show not browned. ... show more

I have used only the sandwhich maker plates so far, but I've been pleased with the performance. Makes a mean bacon grilled cheese in about 4 1/2 minutes. Clean up is easy, and the different plates are super easy to switch out. There are a few recipes in the instruction book, and I discovered fridge dough can be used instead of bread! I plan on making pizza pockets next, then try the grill plates for pancakes. The unit heats up quickly and cooks the sandwhiches uniformly. My only complaint is that once unplugged, it stays hot forever! We use this in our RV, where space is minimal, so I'd like to be able to put it away, but it sits out for over an hour while it cools. If I had to purchase again, I would definitely choose this 3 in 1 model again! ... show more

I bought it "Used, Like New" (yes, sometimes I gamble on Amazon 🙃) and did not notice until a little later, that one of the triangle sandwich plates were missing. Still, we LOVE this thing! As a little girl, we used to sometimes go out for Cuban Sandwiches, in both New York and Miami. Now, I make them at home without having to drag out our bigger Panini Maker. I don't mean to toot my own horn, but I cook deliciously, and during a recent stay at a couple of hotels, between this, our Air Fryer and a Crux Cooker, dishes were still heaven. Oh! And it is really well made. Sometimes my son sticks big ol' "hero" bread (thicker than a Bolillo and longer than Kaiser or Ciabatta bread), stuffed to the brim with sandwich accompaniments, and he has to use a lot of pressure to close it, without it seemingly loosening or creaking or giving in any way. Worked great but do not use non stick spray or it will be everywhere. If you accidentally overfill it leaks by the heating coil and never gets clean. The bottom broke off quickly.

I watched a YouTube video on British foods. A common favorite is "beans on toast". Kinda bland. Had an idea. I bought this sandwich maker and tried various combinations. A couple of my faves are using either Dr. Pepper Sweet and Sassy beans or Chipotle beans. I sprinkle on a bit of shredded cheese. Yum. Very easy to use. Very easy to clean. I've also pressed provolone cheese slices topped with sauce and pepperoni. I have not yet tried making waffles or the grill. ... show more
