This tool is not intended for large-scale lawn edging, but I do not have a substantial lawn. Additionally, it consumes batteries fairly quickly and can get hot. I recommend additional batteries. Recently, I accidentally struck a piece of concrete with the edger. While this is usually not an issue, it appears to have caused it to become inoperative; it would attempt to start but would not turn over. Since the purchase was past the Amazon return window, I reached out to Stanley, which now owns Black & Decker. I provided the purchase receipt and explained the situation. Within a week, they shipped a brand-new unit directly to me. The process was straightforward and simple. While the edger itself may not be the most powerful, the company's customer service clearly stands out. I chose this product because I have other Black & Decker tools—a blower I've used for over ten years and a weed eater. Overall, I am very satisfied with the performance but extremely satisfied with customer support.

Battery is trash and overheats in a matter of seconds. I can't even finish 1 edge of my yard before it stops working all together and the battery is blazing hot. I gave it 3 days to fully charge and then the first attempt was yesterday, June 10th. Cuts off after less than 10 minutes of use. I figured I would give it another shot the next day, today June 11th. I got even less use than yesterday. My front yard is small. I can have it cut/mowed in 20 min. The edging should take even less time. Product is super easy to assemble, no problem there but for some reason it cuts on and then a few seconds later cuts off. I checked to make sure everything was assembled correctly and tightly, and I checked to make sure the battery was cool and fully charged before use., and I checked to make sure nothing was built up inside near the blade. Beyond frustrating for a task that can be done effortlessly if the product could only do what its meant to do. :( Yard still not done!

I have most of the Black and Decker 20v line, and while I really wanted a 40v edger, the cost of most of those was ridiculous, plus almost every other lithium edger out there sells the battery and charger separate, so it was great B&D included them -- plus I just added the new battery to the several I already have. As far as assembly goes -- be ready to pull your hair out. It would be simple but for the long electric line you somehow have to stuff into the tubing while doing the rather simple assembly. No tools required -- just incredible patience. Instructions are fairly useless. But, you have to shove the line both above and below, and you'll know what I'm talking about once you try. It took me almost an hour just to get the electric line in -- other than that, assembly would have been less than five minutes. The complaints about the battery life are semi-true. The machine draws a lot of power, and discharges the battery quicker than any other B&D tool. You will need two batteries to do a full edge -- and the 3.0ah or higher spares that can be purchased online would likely be a much better match. But -- if you already have a spare 20v -- the machine does a great job of edging very easily. The three wheels make it easy to use, line up, and keep on track. Adjustments are also simple. Since the manual is really trash, anyway, it's great that everything is intuitive and beyond easy to figure out. However, always wear safety glasses when using this -- or any edger. Very important!!!! In essence -- I really like the machine for the cost and ease of use. Battery is only fair -- but with two -- no problem.

Machine works great. I chose this product because I have several other tools that use the same battery. This is by far the worst. If you need to edge under 100ft you are probably in good shape. I have several batteries so I thought I would be fine. On the third battery, the unit refused to run for more than a second at a time. Let it cool down and it ran again.

Out of the box, this entire thing is assembled in under five minutes. Set the battery on the charger and give it a few hours and you’re in business. I can say the first time you’re going to cut. You might want to adjust to not cut very deep because the battery won’t last as long. This thing can cut trenches, but the deeper you go the more battery life you will burn through. Once I got the adjustment right I was able to do my entire yard on one charge. Previously, I was using my trimmer to do edging, and I burned through line like nobody’s business. Having a metal blade makes all the difference. For the price, the value is exceptional, I am able to edge in a fraction of the time it took with a trimmer. And the fact it is wireless and electric is very convenient. No fuel to mix, no extension cord to manage, pop in the battery and go. Out of the box it was set for the deepest cut, I recommend adjusting before you get going on your first run, to the highest setting possible and then ease into it. I’m very pleased with the purchase.

The review is NOT for the actual performance of the edger, BUT the horrible assembly experience. Just putting together the handle using the 2 bolts included. EASY, RIGHT? NOOOO! Bolts go thru two telescoping holes which line up on each end of the handle BUT inside the tubular handle is the wiring which has a protective accordion wrapping which is practically impossible to get the bolts past to emerge from the opposite side. Took an experienced homeowner over an hour and half to assemble. Supposed to be able to 'adjust' the length of the handle if desired, BUT no way will this thing be disassembled in the future. In addition, the battery that came with it will NOT charge and am having a difficult time with Amazon to replace/refund the battery. Altogether, a frustrating experience. I will edit this review After I am able to actually Use the edger.

REVIEW I MADE IN 2023 - Well, this product is not really heavy duty for sure. But, once you have tackled that initial edging at the beginning on the grass season, it works better. You just have to make sure you continue to edge your grass so that the edger can do its job. I like the fact that I don't have a cord or have to crank it. If this breaks down, I will look for another alternative. UPDATE - April 23, 2024........I found the solution to the problem!!! The battery they provide for this edger does not have the power you need to make it work properly!!!!! I had a Lithium MAX 20v 2.5 Ah and decided to use this one instead of the 1.5 Ah they provided with purchase. Oh my gosh....what a difference this makes. I was ready to pitch this thing, but now with the extra power, it works like my gas one used to!!!! Cuts through all the grass with ease. I'll keep it!

Update:: TOOL STILL 1STAR! Customer support from Black and Decker contacted me. I found out the product from Amazon was old! If I did not have copy of receipt I would have been out of luck. Battery was 2022 and edger was 2023 THIS IS 2026!! BD sent me dear Barry didn’t help and want to go maybe a foot maybe they’re putting up to feet. I threw it away. I thought I’m not even given this to my worst enemy. I asked me what I wanted so I chose a recorded one I had recorded one for 17 1/2 years and it worked great so I said I’d take the corded one again . They sent me the corded one, but I haven’t got to try it out yet cause I broke my foot. I am supposed to stay off of it but in a week I’m gonna put a garbage bag over my foot and go try it anyways. 😂 So I BOUGHT THIS AND HAD ISSUES IT ONLY GOES ABOUT 2 FEET AND IT DIES!! I SEND IN INFO AND THEY TOLD ME IT WAS OUT OF 2 YEAR WARRANTY!!!DATE ON PRODUCT WAS 2023 AND THE BATTERY WAS DATED 2022!!THIS WAS PURCHASED APRIL 26, 2026!! IF YOU BUY ONE YOU BETTER CHECK THE DATES BEFORE YOU EVER USE IT!!!I I WOULD NEVER BUY THIS AGAIN DEALING WITH BLACK AND DECKER WAS ALSO A PAIN. YOU PUT THE INFO IN AND IT TAKES 2 DAYS GET BACK TO YOU AND 24 HOURS LATER THEY WANT TO CLOSE THE TICKET BECAUSE YOU DID NOT RESPOND IMMEDIATELY!! DO NOT BUY!!!
