  • Two glaring flaws
Color: Black
Within the two months I’ve owned this toaster, it’s gone from near-perfectly-even toast to complete insanity. The center coils toast at a muuuuch higher temp than the outer coils. This attached photo is two sides of the same piece of toast. I first noticed the unevenness beginning when I had purchased a loaf of thick-cut white bread that was only lightly toasted everywhere except the top 1/4 of the side facing inward, which would be burnt every single time. I’ve tried flipping the toast partway through, but without perfect timing, you still get a premature char on the one side. The attached photo is actually my best flipping effort, and as you can see, the one side that begin facing inward is still much darker than the other. This happens every. single. time. If it wasn’t so far past the return date, I’d be begging for a refund. The second glaring flaw is the cord length. It’s barely long enough to pull the toaster out from under my cabinets when I’m roasting. Why have a cord management channel underneath the thing if there’s not even enough cord to require it?? Do people really stash the cord in between uses? Anyway, that’s just a minor gripe. The fact that this thing can’t even do its primary function correctly should be enough to steer users clear. ... show more

  • Good toaster good price
Color: Black
Who would of thought that buying a toaster could be such a chore. After reading many reviews I selected this toaster, and I am glad I did. It has an easy to use browning knob to get the desired browning of toast. It has a convenient cancel / eject button. It also has a frozen setting, which work well. I have toasted frozen waffles and frozen pretzels with good results. The depth is large enough to accommodate a pretzel. The cord is realistically about 22 inches long. I've included a photos with toaster next to a soda can for reference. I would recommend this toaster. ... show more

  • The worst problem is a chemical smell when it's on
Color: Black
This toaster is cheap for a reason. The cord is not placed in convenient place. The worst problem is a chemical smell when it's on. I have tried it 4 times and the smell continues from metal inside. Not worth the effort to return it, so I just threw it in the trash!

  • Good looking toaster, but needs more work
Color: Black
The toaster looks good sitting on my counter-top, but that's where it ends. I'm slightly disappointed in the results. It takes much too long to toast bread (longer than any toaster I've ever had), and the toasting comes out uneven, i.e. darker at one end. I can stick in a couple of slices, then have to go do some other tasks while waiting. Okay, not a big deal, but if you are in a hurry, forget it. If I am toasting a bagel I have to adjust the toasting level. One level does not work for both bread and bagel. When using the frozen food option, like those little frozen waffles, it takes longer, which is to be expected, but even then I have to pop them back in and add another 1/2 minute or so. There is a gap around the top where the insulated black housing meets the hot metal, and crumbs collect in this quarter inch gap. The crumbs must either be vacuumed out, or the unit has to turned upside down and shaken (be sure to remove the catch tray at the bottom first). ... show more

  • A Future Product Recall?
Color: Black
I pondered if I should purchase another Black and Decker product having been stung by other product failures. The most egregious 3 features are 1) an entirely two short electrical cord, 2) made even shorter by it's location at the front of the toaster necessitating running the cord either under or next to the toaster, and 3) requiring the toaster to be located directly under an outlet even when toasting. I am not sure who designed this toaster or where it was manufactured, but come on it is just a toaster. Charge an extra $1 for q decent cord length. I shall not be fooled by the brand name again. ... show more

  • You get what you pay for!
Color: Black
I had high hopes for this very reasonably priced toaster, however, I am disappointed in its performance. The plunger will not stay engaged and it is very frustrating to try to continually hold down the plunger. I have tried both to softly and very firmly engage the plunger with little success. Wish I had kept the packaging so I could return this product. ... show more

  • Fantastic Toaster!
Color: Black
This is a fantastic toaster! Although the outside is plastic, you would think you have an "old-fashioned" toaster on your hands. Right out of the box, I was able to get the color of toast we like. When you do your bagels set it on #1 and you get a perfect color, regular white bread seems to toast perfectly on #2, English Muffins toast well on setting #3, and rye bread will toast well on #5. Am actually thinking of purchasing a second one to have in my pantry when I wear this one out. If you want a simple but very efficient toaster, this is the one you want. I have to admit I was hesitant due to the low price, but you don't have to spend a lot to get a lot. ... show more

  • Good value, good function
Color: Black
All I want is a functional toaster for the rare occasion I have time to make anything. But, no matter how good the product or how many reviews, there is always that small percentage or reviewers that have problems. Something got damaged in transit or the factory worker was not paying attention. Put the toast in. Push the lever down. Experiment with the "toasting level" knob. The middle mark produces a light brown toast. I press the "frozen" button if my bread is frozen, which it is, and I have always received a nicely toasted slice of bread. For those of you looking for looking for Mercedes-Benz construction and function, uncheck the $25 and under category. For the price, this is an awesome piece of equipment. ... show more
