  • Exactly what I wanted
I don't usually bother with product reviews but I had to for this one. I've wanted a kotatsu since I first found out about them, and this one is super nice. I didn't want to bother with a converter for the plug, and this doesn't need one. I thought the table might be on the flimsy side, but it's actually really nice and sturdy and will work well and look good as a coffee table when the weather is warm. It definitely looks like real wood in a light oak shade instead of a fake woodgrain print. Since I'm taller I thought the table might be too short but it's the perfect height, and the lower part of the legs look like they remove in case you need the table to be shorter instead. The heater is quiet and cozy, and this works with any type of blanket - no need to buy a fancy expensive kotatsu blanket. The instructions are a little hard to read due to small/blurry print, but if you've ever assembled a piece of furniture before you can probably manage without them. It was also really well packaged so that nothing could shift around or get broken easily - plenty of foam and wrapping to protect corners. You could probably fit 4 people around the table if they sat cross-legged, perfect for 1-2 people who want to stretch out a bit more. Altogether, I am thrilled with this thing. ... show more

  • Expensive, but looks good.
Size: 47x31in Color: Brown-2n
It works! It's expensive! I took a big gamble buying something so expensive with no reviews and poor pictures. My intention in buying this was twofold: I wanted a kotatsu as the centerpiece for my living room where my friends could hang out and where I could chill on the ground. I also just wanted a good looking coffee table. I'll update this review in a few weeks when I've used it more regularly. First things first! The positives! It looks great. I was kind of surprised? The pictures aren't the greatest so I wasn't quite sure. I love the table height extenders because it goes from a nice kotatsu into a nice coffee table. This is very easy to build. The instructions... kind of sucked though? I felt like it assumes you either have knowledge on how to build furniture already or just have common sense. I do not have either. It took me a minute to figure it out what the instructions were trying to say but once I did, I realized I was just an idiot and it took less than 5 minutes to fully assemble. Now! To the not so good. Bottom side of the table top doesn't look the greatest. YOU WILL NOT see it normally, but I did not like seeing it first thing upon taking everything out. One of the leg bottoms were cracked! It's probably not a big issue, but it was a little concerning. On top of the cracked leg bottom, one of the leg bottoms were a little scuffed - like, it has small splinters on the bottom kind of scuffed. I'll find out how noticable it is when I move into an apartment without carpet. Right now? Don't notice it. Picture added. Overall, I think... This will have been a good investment? Even if I never use the kotatsu function like I plan, this is going to be a good looking coffee table at worst. I'll update this entire review in a few weeks after regular use. For now? If you want a 120v kotatsu that doubles as a coffee table, I think this might work out for you. I did not want to mess with a converter, so this was a blessing in that sense. ... show more

  • Beautifully constructed. Great size. A bit sad about the color
A beautiful kotatsu. The craftmanship is wonderful. The top of the table is very smooth and really feels high quality to the touch. I was a little worried about the size because I'm a 6'1" man, but I found I actually removed the optional height-extenders because the lower height worked better for me. The width of the table is perfect—I'm able to sit with my legs crossed under it no problem. I also really like the depth of the table. The whole thing is small and intimate, but you could absolutely seat one person on each side comfortably. The only gripe I have is that I'm a little disappointed by the color. I chose the "natural" option, and at the time of this review, the very first picture is approximately what I got (though, it's a bit browner in person.) The following pictures show a demonstration of the product with a lighter wood that I think suits the idea of a "natural" wood better. It looks like the larger table variant seems to be this beech-like color. That said, the color itself is pleasant and I'm already warming up to it. I'm very curious what the "brown" option looks like—I imagine it's very similar. ... show more

  • It's a 120V kotatsu!
A kotatsu is brilliant for winter days, but if you're here looking at this listing and reading reviews you probably already know that. In the context of being in the US and having very-limited options for an out-of-the-box 120V-safe kotatsu, this is a solid option, and not only because its pretty much one of the only options. I'm not electrically inclined so I don't understand the risks of using a 100V Japanese kotatsu on 120V US power and I didn't want to have to use a converter so this fits the bill. The assembly is simple, the singular required tool is included. Construction and fit and finish is good. It's manufactured in Malaysia. Based on a sticker on the actual unit itself, the OEM for this kotatsu is kyouritsukougei, a Japanese company that markets a much wider range of kotatsu (which makes me jealous) and other furniture in the Japanese market. If you have a VPN you can look up their website but it does seem to be IP/region blocked if you're outside of Japan. The table top is more than enough for one person to spread out with a laptop and have room to spare for eating. Two people can also easily share it. The actual measurement is closer to 29.5 inches so this would appear to just be a standard 75cmx75cm kotatsu relabeled. My only gripe is the lack of other available styles but I also understand why those options don't exist given the limited market. ... show more
