It does just fine. A little difficult to get the locking screw in when mounted, but I feel safer all the way around, I love that I can use only my fingerprint and grandchildren can’t get in it! This is a heavy safe and the mechanics work well once you get through the setup process. It feels sturdy and the mounting bracket offers several options (top mount for under a desk, side mount from either side.) It is very easy to open with key, 4-digit code, or fingerprint. It is a mid-range price and seems fair for the quality and functionality. It has a silent mode, which is a nice feature. You can store one 4-digit code and 10 fingerprints. It will sound an alarm after 5 wrong codes, although the alarm is not particularly loud. The instructions are a bit confusing. First, they don't show on the diagram where the battery is located, nor do they tell you what size. I was looking all around the top / front where the lighted panel is. Thankfully somebody put up a video that showed the battery compartment in the rear. It is incredibly obvious and easy to access, if you think to look at the back of the safe. It takes 4 AA batteries, so it is a normal size. The code and fingerprints are retained if you take the batteries out. There are two keys so you can still get in if the battery stops working. Setup is simple, but it did take a couple of tries. I think it was just a bit of confusion over the series of beeps described in the instructions. The instructions weren't awful, but they weren't really clear either if you aren't familiar with the ZCF Mate products. The good thing is the company provides product support so I knew I could get answers if I couldn't figure things out. There was a bit of rust around a couple of inside corners. It wasn't bad and I don't think there will be any problem with the metal in the near future. But it will be something to watch. That was probably my biggest concern with the safe. The foam insert was a snug fit for a 92SB compact, Type M. You can trim the foam but I'm going to wait a while and see if it compresses at all. The fit is pretty close so I'm guessing it will be just right after a few months. Overall, this is perfect for making sure a weapon is easily accessible for you but out of reach for kids. ... show more
