This is a wonderful little lantern. I love the 8 different modes, and I absolutely adore how natural and comfy the warm white/candle modes look. However, the first unit I received was noticeably darker and dimmer on one side. It almost looked as if one side was made of improperly etched plastic, and the other side was made of smooth plastic. It *completely* broke the illusion of having an actual candle/lantern, and I had to return the unit as defective. The replacement unit I received also has color matching problems, although these are subtle enough that a camera will not pick up on the difference, and a person likely won't notice unless they're specifically looking for it. But there is still a significant amount of inconsistency, and a slight etched-vs-smooth look when seen with the human eye. This is especially disappointing considering the large price tag, and how much they brag about their "Chroma LED" tech delivering perfect color accuracy. How accurate can it be, if the Chroma LEDs can't even match the OTHER Chroma LEDs in the same lamp?

This light is awesome for camping. We have a hook in the middle of our tent ceiling and it hangs there great. Only complaint is that we were able to get it in color change mode once, but could not figure out how to do it again. We hadn’t brought the instructions camping, so maybe it’s in there. Wish it was more intuitive though.

Damn I love this little light! They thought of everything with this one. Not that I use all the colored and strobe features but it’s kind of cool to have. Who knows when an impromptu rave just might happen? The dimming features and the shake to change modes works great. With all the random power outages in California it’s nice to have this little guy. Mine loves to go car camping and take road trips. It also enjoys long walks on the beach, snuggling with dogs and romance novels. I personally could do without the romance novels but the rest is fine so we get along all right. Overall, five stars and has been a pretty solid relationship so far.

This is the second lamp I purchased from the same vendor. Unfortunately, the shipped lamp arrived in an unsealed and slightly damaged original package. It turned out, that the lamp does not charge and therefore is useless. So the shipped a broken product! When I wanted to ship the lamp back, it turned out that the label for back-shipping did not cover the shipping costs. Now, I am waiting for the answer of the retailer upon my request to send me a pre-payed shipping label. Let's see, if that works. The lamp would be great and is superb for camping. But broken it is useless.

Nighttime outdoors can be fun, but sometimes you need a little light to guide the way. You could go for a lighted flame or some other traditional lighting source, but if you want colorful light without the safety hazard, a good option is the Alpenglow Lantern from Biolite. Biolite Alpenglow is small, but it illuminates nicely with 250 lumens of lighting power. You can set the light to glow as white light or change it to different colors. You can shake it to create even more lighting options, like a flickering candle. You can choose soft or bright lights/colors to fit your mood and needs. It even has a hook on the bottom so that you can hang the lantern, if you like. Besides the different colors and patterns of light, the most impressive feature of Alpenglow is the fact that it delivers up to five hours of light on a single charge. This wouldn’t seem possible and it surprised me at first. The advanced LED technology is the reason. It provides a good deal of light for such a small device but uses only a small amount of power. This is what enables it to continue glowing for so long. Alpenglow is rechargeable, which is cool. That means you don’t have to worry about replacing batteries. The charging level is indicated by the four small lights in front. You will see lights slowly light up as the charging is closer to 100 percent. Once all four lights are glowing, you have reached maximum charge. Yet another cool feature is the additional power port. Just plug in your cell phone or other electronic device. As long as enough power is available, you can charge your phone. And chances are there will be power available, since a full charge is good for about five hours of light. I tend to use my Alpenglow on my back patio, in place of my patio overhead lights. My existing lights are too bright, and a little on the boring side. I like the different colors of light that this device offers and I like that I can set the light to just the right level for outdoor reading. I love the great outdoors and there is something special about enjoying the outdoors by moonlight. When the light of the moon isn’t quite enough or if you get tired of ordinary lighting, Biolite Alpenglow Lantern can be just the light substitute you’re looking for. It’s rechargeable, lasts a long time, and has multiple colors and other lighting options. It can easily transform an ordinary evening into something special.
