My old can opener just wasn't cutting it anymore, so I needed a replacement. I live with a semi-Neanderthal savage, so I wasn't enthused about investing a ton in a can-opener, but still it had to be replaced. I stumbled upon the reviews for this make/model and decided this would be the one. I have to admit, I am very pleased with its performance. After aligning the can and piercing it with the lever, the rest of the operation is auto-magic: it proceeds around the entire can and then automagically stops when the can lid has been completely cut. If you are using a "typical" sized can or smaller, you can walk away and the process is hands-free until you remove the can. However, larger cans (like a 28oz can of diced tomatoes, for example), you will need to support that can or the whole kit-n-caboodle with topple over. The cutting mechanism is easily removed for a quick cleaning and drying, which is ideal to keep things as clean as possible. There is a knife sharpener on the back of the can opener. I was under the impression that it would be an electrically-operated sharpener, but it is not. Rather, it is a manual sharpener that is fixed in place: you have to do all the work. I used one of the Neanderthal savage's knives to test this out, and it provided a rough sharpening that I wouldn't necessarily recommend. There are better sharpening options out there that I would use rather than wreck a good knife. With that said, I bought this as a can opener, not a knife sharpener, so the knife sharpening ability, while it would have been nice if it was of a higher quality, it isn't really a factor in my opinion that this is an overall excellent can opener that I highly recommend. ... show more

I have this for a long time now and just waiting for it to break so I can get a new one but still operational. Blade and motor still working. During the holidays opening big cans, I just hand held it and have the can rotate on the counter. I have a heavy duty crank manual can opener for backup but haven't used it yet.     • Works for a while before it’s design kills it

The blade constantly gets stuck on the mechanism that turns the can, causing the motor to get damaged every time that happens. I had mine for about three months and it’s already dead. There’s no access either so even if you’re handy, you can’t fix it on your own. The knife sharpener on the back is practically useless unless you have a way to stablize the stupid thing, which is not built into the design. The little rubber legs that keep the whole thing upright come out just when you pick it up, and the cord storage is the entire base of the design, which is a waste. No stablility, breaks easily, and just poor design overall. Wish I could get my money back. ... show more
