  • Dust!! Drill, Sand, And assembly instructions seem lacking.
One package of the frame tops was filled with sawdust, I had to run a thin screwdriver down the foundation slot to clean it out and brush each on off.. The others were not so bad, seemed to be some QC wasn't applied to that one and they were not blown/brushed out after sawing. The issue was the foundations ended up with dust on them as they were not bagged, and since they were waxed coated, it stuck to them some and was tedious to get them clean. INSTRUCTIONS: While the process of putting them together seems straightforward, the frame instructions show a bottom or top that you nail to another bottom or top? And I had extra bottom pieces. There are 3 nail sizes, the large are for the outside boxes.... DRILL STARTER HOLES!!! or they will split, even with starter holes, a couple split. I used gorilla white glue on the outside boxes. No notes on nail sizes/usage. I lightly sanded all the outsides of the boxes, including hand hold cups, the finish in some areas was a tiny rough, with wood burrs sticking up, then dry ragged it to remove dust before panting (outside only and bottom board's bottom and edges of bottom board, and edges of telescoping top. No paint inside.) I used blue paint tape on stack edges and top of super, I covered with paper then stacked them up and painted them that way to protect the insides, 2 coats of spray primer, I have to do the last exterior coat yet. Remember to buy another "Super" as this only comes with one. If you live in northern / winter states, you need to leave one to let them eat, and the top second super is where you harvest from. (NuBee Hives ASIN B081K789P1) NAILS/ FRAMES: The med. nails are for the TOP frames into the side frames, The small nails are for the frame bottoms into the frame sides (the frame bottoms are smaller than tops.) I didn't drill those but make sure you do it on something firm (floor/sturdy workbench) as any flex makes it bounce a bit and your hammer hits a little wacky due to bounce back. Having a solid work spot helps so much with the hammering. Last note check all the frame parts closely and look for cracks, understandably they are fragile being small and thin as they need to be, but one frame side was cracked, I nailed it across the crack, I didn't want to use glue on them as it goes inside the box. A little more help with the instructions, should bag foundations to keep out sawdust, and some QC. but they seem solid. ... show more

  • Good hive for the price
Purchased this hive as a backup in the event I catch a swarm this spring. Overall, assembly is straight forward. Joints are tight and after gluing and assembling the boxes, I pre drilled nail holes and had no issues with splitting. Over all it appears to be sturdy and should with proper care last years. Surprised that it also came with what spears to be a Hoover Hives bee trap (white plastic oblong device) and a stainless steel mouse guard. Over all, very satisfied. ... show more

  • Good hive, excellent customer service!
Some of the dovetail joints were not finished well and I really had to hammer a few of the pieces together but it really wasn't a huge deal. It was missing 1 side piece to a deep brood frame and I contacted the seller and they sent one right out without making an issue of it. I really appreciate this as it had been 2 months since I got the hive before I even opened the box to put it together. I did not use the nails they sent. I used wood glue on all joints, then reinforced with 16 gauge finishing nails. No way I was going to hammer all that when I have an air gun. Then I filled all the joints with wood filler and sanded and painted. Lastly, I added some decals I made on my cricut. The hive sits together well without gaps and my new colony of bees seems to be enjoying their new home. Right now only the bottom chamber has frames/bees but I did put the other brood box on top because I am feeding them sugar water in there (which is also why I have the inside top piece in that position you see in the picture). I will definitely buy another hive from this seller, although I will get the 10 frame instead of the 8 frame. Good customer service means a lot to me and they've proven themselves in this area so they've earned my repeat business. ... show more

  • Surprisingly Good Hive!
I didn't expect such good workmanship at such a competitive price point. All parts assembled flawlessly - no sanding or filing needed! No pieces were warped, so clamping was minimal. Will definitely buy again.

  • Our first beehive and it aint bad.
Being our first beehive I don't know exactly. what I should, shouldn't have, that is better than the other. However this one is pretty good. It does come with some parts and you're like what are they but with a quick search on the Internet you'll figure it out (rat guard and be escaped). DRILL YOUR HOLES FIRST. They don't say that but do it. We worked as a team he drilled, I hammered. The box just sit on each other and are not stable feeling as a tower but maybe with Bees and honey the weight holds them tight. Just feel like it needs something till then like a groove the box sets in. I don't know I'm new to this. ... show more

  • Two warped pieces
Two of the pieces to build the brood box were unfortunately warped. This led to the box not sitting flat and then a decent sized gap when stacking another brood box on top of this one. The remaining wood pieces were excellent and product was easy to assemble. It's very frustrating one of the brood boxes cannot be used especially given the cost. ... show more

  • ORDERED WRONG PRODUCT, BUT STILL LOVE IT
I meant to buy a 10-frame, but bought an eight. Assembled with ease. Everything squared up easy and fit together tight. Very happy!
