This Standard 8 Frame set up comes with 2 Deep Hive Bodies and 1 Medium Super Box to help in cultivating a happy and healthy bee colony. The beehive boxes and frames are constructed of fir and have dovetail joints for greater durability. This complete kit also comes with 16 Frames for your Deep Bee Box, 8 Frames for your Medium Bee Box, 24 CellTech Foundations that have already been coated in 100% beeswax (an important step!), an Inner Cover, Bottom Board, Entrance Reducer, Queen Excluder, and a metal capped Telescoping Top Cover. Assembly of boxes and frames are required.

It is my first Bee box and I was so afraid to order. When it came in, my husband and I took our time, read the instructions and it went together like clock work. The instruction are very basic, so we just read carefully and looked at the instruction carefully before putting it together. We also predrilled the nail holes to avoid splitting of the wood. It is a great box! Just make sure you understand that it is an 8 frame and NOT a 10 frame hive. I was missing one piece and I contacted the seller. They had it in the mail to me within 14 hours of sending them a message. Great Box and Great Service.....what more could you ask for? ... show more

Getting into Beekeeping, and being into wood working, I wanted to order a hive first so I could see in person how they are built. Once I got it, I assembled and painted it. Like others, the nails they sent went into stock and I used an air stapler and glue to assemble everything. Assembly took maybe 1.5 hours. I have ordered another one and this time, I should be able to do it much faster. The pictures shown are with just the two deep boxes, one for the bees and the other one for the feeders. Once my hive get's established, I will add the frames and then eventually add the shallow. notes for potential buyers. 1. This is an 8 frame hive. It will not stack with 10 frame hives as they are not the same size but that is OK as I think I am just going to do 8 framers anyway due to them being a bit lighter. As note, the frames themselves are interchangeable, just not the boxes. Also, 8 frame langstroths are gaining in popularity for just that reason, they are lighter. 2. If you have an air nailer or preferably stapler, that is the way to go. Trying to nail this thing would make it an all day affair. 3. Materials are pine boards so quality per piece varies but they seem like they will replace bad parts. 4. Assemble and paint your hive well before you get your bees to let the paint and glue dry completely. All in all, I am very happy with it. I will likely make my own hives in the future but if I need one quickly, I would order from them again. ... show more

Purchased this hive as a backup in the event I catch a swarm this spring. Overall, assembly is straight forward. Joints are tight and after gluing and assembling the boxes, I pre drilled nail holes and had no issues with splitting. Over all it appears to be sturdy and should with proper care last years. Surprised that it also came with what spears to be a Hoover Hives bee trap (white plastic oblong device) and a stainless steel mouse guard. Over all, very satisfied. ... show more

Some of the dovetail joints were not finished well and I really had to hammer a few of the pieces together but it really wasn't a huge deal. It was missing 1 side piece to a deep brood frame and I contacted the seller and they sent one right out without making an issue of it. I really appreciate this as it had been 2 months since I got the hive before I even opened the box to put it together. I did not use the nails they sent. I used wood glue on all joints, then reinforced with 16 gauge finishing nails. No way I was going to hammer all that when I have an air gun. Then I filled all the joints with wood filler and sanded and painted. Lastly, I added some decals I made on my cricut. The hive sits together well without gaps and my new colony of bees seems to be enjoying their new home. Right now only the bottom chamber has frames/bees but I did put the other brood box on top because I am feeding them sugar water in there (which is also why I have the inside top piece in that position you see in the picture). I will definitely buy another hive from this seller, although I will get the 10 frame instead of the 8 frame. Arrived earlier than stated....Parts were all there, and in perfect condition.....Assembly was easy but be sure to drill holes first before nailing together to avoid splitting...Take your time...I have 3 coats of paint on and will probably put on one more...Looks like it will hold up well...Also like as is an 8 frame hive, not the heavier 10 frame hives... ... show more

    • This is not a standard 10 frame hive
I must say first. The hive is very nice, but...I bought this hive to add additional boxes to my existing hive. Assembly was very easy and quick. The wood looks very nice, but it does not stack with a traditional 10 frame hive. It only holds 8. If I were aware of this would not have purchased it since I bought it to stack with and be interchangeable to my standard 10 frame hive, So basically nothing I buy will fit this hive unless I purchase it from this particular seller. Say I need to replace the queen excluder ect.. It was a good value for the money, just not as versatile as I was under the impression it was. OKAY, update on my initial review. I was a little harsh, I have to take responsibility for not looking into the description of the hive further before ordering. After I posted I went back and looked into the listing and if I would have READ the whole thing it does say "8 frame". I apologize, I will be more careful in reading ALL of the listings before ordering. ... show more
