  • Another great day of saving the beezzz.
Size: 3X-Large
When we first received a hive, it was delivered by a kind, experienced gentleman. He was so chill showing us the hive, he wasn’t wearing any gear. If he was going to be chill, so was I… maybe it’s a “they can smell fear” kind of thing, I thought. So I forced myself to relax. After one stung me, I took a step back and still tried to stay calm, telling the man what happened. Then I felt two more stings in quick succession. I walked about 10 feet away, trying to stay calm and started to pray, I could hear angry buzzing. Sure enough, two more stings. So I booked it! I ran back toward my house a 1/4 mile away. Not only was I obese, but I was only 10 months post a back injury (shattered my T11)… so I was not running super fast. Those bees stuck with me as I ran, swirling around me, dropping in concentration the further I got. Even while running, I was stung five more times by those little terrorists… even feeling one wrap it’s annoyingly cute and painfully determined legs around the tip of my middle finger before it instantly They’re that venomous stinger into my skin. Why did it take me ten stings to motivate me to research about Bee safety?! Here’s some info you should know if you plan to work with bees: 1- smoke serves multiple purposes. You’ve heard it “calms” them, maybe even “directs” them to avoid the area smoked. One other crucial purpose is to MASK the warning pheromones that could be given off by guard bees. Which brings me to number two. 2- Bananas. Avoid anything banana-scented, including bananas prior to a hive inspection. The scent of a bee sting smells like banana, you don’t want to trigger an alert! Which brings me to number three… 3- If ONE bee stings you, ACT quickly. Cover that scent immediately if you can. A big mistake I made was hanging around the hive with that smell radiating off my person. Have something scented with you to cover a beesting. I used chapstick once and it worked. It would be great to not have the other bees alerted that you are a threat… 4- don’t be threatening! Standing in front of the hive opening is threatening, stand on the side or the rear. Do not wear dark clothing, hence why most bee suits are light in color! Dark hair or dark clothing matches the description of a bear, you will be targeted! 5- Know scenarios that are agitating to bees… loud motors, exhaust from vehicles, bad weather (windy/extreme temps/ready to rain). These bees were closed up overnight and several hours while being transported to our home. This beekeeper should have known they would be agitated given the factors of that day… he should have had a smoker going and should have encouraged us to wear our gear! Be brave, AND be respectful. It would be super cool to party with bees all day in whatever clothing we want or even in the nude. Bees don’t ask questions, they don’t owe you respect when you’re breaking into their home. Protect yourself at all times. They give up their lives to defend their brood. Burlap and pine needles are organic options for your smoker. Learn from our mistakes! Please don’t let horror stories keep you from learning new things and having new adventures. I was a bit “triggered” by buzzing insects for a few weeks… but got over it. I know when I’m in this bee suit, I’m safe! The gloves have protected me from a couple more stings. The hood is easy to flip over the head and zipped closed with a nice cloth flap to ensure there are no gaps. We purchased sizes for me and my husband. He needed XXL being 6’2” and not super skinny to avoid constant wedgies. I’m a large gal at 5’6” and the XL gives plenty of room. Bees are tough to keep, but it’s amazing to watch them work and thrive! Watch a lot of YouTube videos, search the web for details about your environment for any tips and tricks for success. I’m SO grateful for this suit to help me care for my bees without fear of being attacked. Used for over a year and still great. ... show more

  • Impressive Bee Suit - A Must-Have for Fearless Warriors
Size: XL for 5'7"-5'11"
I recently had a remarkable encounter with a relentless yellow jacket nest that led me to test the boundaries of my bee suit. Armed with determination and my trusty 2x4, I embarked on a mission to remove a massive hive from my property. Amidst the chaos, the bee suit I donned proved to be a game-changer, offering unparalleled protection and ensuring my safety throughout the endeavor. I was removing a massive hive for 30 minutes without a single bite. Durability and Protection: 5/5 From the moment I zipped up the bee suit, I was impressed by its robust construction. The suit held up exceptionally well as I maneuvered around the hive, even with a 2x4 in hand I used to scrape the hive off the bottom of my deck. Notably, not a single bee managed to penetrate the suit's defenses, despite my proximity to their hive and the forceful expulsion of parts of the nest. Hood Design and Accessories: 4.5/5 Wearing a baseball cap under the hood, as suggested by fellow bee warriors, provided an extra layer of protection for my head and face. The hood effectively shielded me from potential stings, although an adjustable tightening mechanism would be a useful addition for a more customized fit. Comfort and Layering: 4/5 Layering proved to be a strategic choice. The thick Carhartt jacket, combined with work jeans, enhanced insulation without compromising mobility. The extra layers, along with duct tape sealing on gloves and ankles, contributed significantly to the suit's effectiveness in keeping the hornets at bay. However, an additional inner lining for added comfort during prolonged use would be appreciated. Ease of Use: 4/5 The bee suit was relatively easy to put on and take off, even under the circumstances of a bee removal operation. The zipper mechanism held up well, and the suit's sizing proved accurate for a comfortable fit over my clothing. In conclusion, the bee suit I used during my yellow jacket nest removal proved itself as a stalwart defender against nature's fierce inhabitants. Its durability, effective hood design, and compatibility with additional layers of clothing are commendable features. While some minor enhancements could elevate its comfort level, the bee suit exceeded my expectations in delivering the protection and peace of mind needed for such daring undertakings. ... show more

  • Decent starter suit
Size: M for 4'11"-5'3"
This is a decent suit for beginners. However it's not very thick so if you have an aggressive hive, it won't save you from stings - they can sting through the material. Overall the suit is comfortable and fits well. You'll need a baseball cap under the hood to prevent the mesh from sitting on your face (I was once stung on the chin because the mesh was touching my face) The gloves are OK. Like most, You'll lose a lot of dexterity and they're near impossible to get clean. Some of the stitching is subpar. I've already had to re-stitch the back pocket and part of the zipper. If you don't know how to sew, expect to replace this suit every 1-2 years. ... show more

  • No stings with hidden yellojacket hive
Size: XL for 5'7"-5'11"
Never had to deal with wasps, so took it on faith that the reviewers here are correct. With no prior experience, wore it and went face-to-face with an active, hidden, yellojacket-nest to apply Pyganic dust in the eaves and fascia. They were buzzing back and forth, and some were crawling on my arms and hands, but no stings. It was disconcerting to be up high with one hand holding a duster, the other hand holding a ladder, and getting covered with wasps, but I put my trust in the suit and no stings! I did not apply tape to the gloves - they seemed tight enough at the elbow. I wore Tingley-Rubber slip-ons that have a strap to tighten around the calf, so did not use tape at the shoes either. ... show more
