My husband and I are both in our 70's and have accumulated some of the medical devices necessary to get through age-related surgeries, but one thing I do remember needing was help getting out of bed, so I thought it a good idea to order this handrail prior to needing hip surgery sometime within the next couple of years. I only set it up for trial purposes, so I didn't use the strap included with it, but it still seemed extremely solid and sturdy. (The setup was a little tricky - just took a few extra minutes to think it through, then it was fine.) I believe my husband would use the handrail toward the head of the bed (since he's left-handed), but I would probably use it further toward the end, so I could get my legs over the side and then have that to grip onto with my right hand if I needed a boost. This will work fine either location. The motion detector light could be a great advantage, as long as it doesn't spook someone because they don't know it's there (which is what happened when my husband walked into the dark bedroom and a bright light popped on -- oops!). It can easily been taken out if it's a problem. I did also try the handrail with other beds in our house and it wouldn't work with one of them. That bed has an adjustable base that is low to the floor -- and the adjustable legs of the handrail won't lower that far -- something you may want to check. One other reviewer mentioned feeling the bar underneath the mattress. That wasn't an issue with any of our mattresses (I tried them), but they're either a thick mattress (like the one in the photos) or have an extra foam topper on them, so I guess it depends on the mattress. Overall, I'm glad I have this ready when I need it!

A bed rail is a game changer! With this one, you get a motion sensor light AND a storage bag making it even better! Not just for the elderly...I broke my leg and getting in/out of bed was challenging. Will be having knee replacement surgery in a few months and will be using this handy rail system again! CHECK YOUR BED HEIGHT MEASUREMENTS BEFORE ORDERING! This is easy to assemble and comes together quickly without any complicated steps or tools. The legs do have suction cups for added stability and helps stop it from sliding around. It's sturdy and makes life a little easier. I like it so much, the light is a big winner and I will get another for my 85 year old mom too!

Never thought my bed was particularly tall. However, when I put this together and extended the legs to fullest extent possible, it was about 4" short of the floor. In our case the section the goes in between the mattress was enough to hold the rail steady and in place. Possible the extra height is due to using a Sleep Number mattress on top of a normal box spring rather than the official Sleep Number foundation. In any case it still works great though it looks rather silly with the 'feet' dangling about 4" above the floor. Motion sensing light is a useful addition.

I didn't find the assembly difficult, and the end result is a very sturdy support that helps me pull up in bed when the memory foam mattress and topper try to swallow me when I try to sit up. I don't need it for fear of falling out of bed or getting into bed, it's just pulling myself up to the edge of the bed. I will say that my cat loves it because things got a bit rocky for her when I'd be getting up and she'd be tilting toward the edge of the bed and would get a bit nervous. Now she feels perfectly secure and can stay in place while I'm grabbing the railing to pull myself up to the edge of the mattress. I love it.

I got this rain in preparation for abdominal surgery. Now that I'm home from surgery, and I'm using the rail, I can tell you it's the ONLY reason I can sleep in my bed instead of having to sleep in a recliner. I have a thick mattress, and the handle only barely comes over it, but that works for me. Just make sure you measure your mattress thickness to ensure it is as high as you need it.

This bar is high quality and provides a sense of safety and security once in place beneath your mattress. It's really helping my elderly father get out of bed, which is amazing. However, this thing is dang near IMPOSSIBLE to put together. The instructions are VERY unclear, and it took us almost 4 hours to finally figure out how to put it together! Once we finally did, it was easy enough to install, and it's performing great so far. We have the light on motion detection mode, so that just adds another layer of security if one of us has to get up in the middle of the night and don't want to flip the big light on. Overall I'd recommend, but the instructions really need to be made abundantly more clear.

I got this foe my 93 yr old grandmother. We set it up and it's easily adjustable allowing to fit with pretty much any size bed or mattress. The rubber feet help it stay in place. The motion light is nice at night and gives off just enough light to be able to see, but also not disturb you if you are just rolling over in bed. We would highly recommend for anyone that needs a little help sitting up in bed or getting out of bed.
