Spraying water solution on the adhesive as you pull off the liner will prevent the film from being too sticky. This will also reduce or eliminate the potential for wrinkles and bubbles during installation. Once the film is properly placed on the window, the soapy water should be pushed out using the squeegee with appropriate pressure applied. Attached to the film is a clear layer called the backing liner. This layer covers the adhesive or cling side of the actual film layer; the liner needs to be removed when you install the film. The best way is to use two pieces of tape on a corner (one on each side, facing each other). One piece would grab onto the film, and the other onto the liner. Press the tapes together, and then slowly separate the two pieces to pull the two layers away from each other. Static reaction happens when the backing liner is taken apart from the film. It may cause the film to stick to itself, which makes that film useless. To prevent this, spray the soapy water solution as you carefully pull off the backing liner. The window surface should also be sprayed with plenty of the soapy water. This can be used to clean the window before applying the film, and allows you to move the film around on the window without it getting stuck on the surface. A daytime privacy film can prevent onlookers outside from seeing in while retaining view from inside during the day. The effect will depend on the brightness on each side: the space that has more light can be seen through the film from the other side, whereas the film conceals the space that is darker. This is why the privacy effect works well during the day, since the sun usually makes the exterior of your building brighter than the interior. Curtains or blinds will be needed for nighttime. Why does the film not stick to the window? / Why did the film fall off from the window a few hours later? There is a clear "backing liner" layer attached to the actual "film" layer. The backing liner covers the adhesive on the film so that the film does not prematurely stick. When you install the film, the backing liner needs to be peeled off from it. Can people see in at night? / Why is the interior visible from outside during nighttime? If lights are on inside, the interior will be visible at night because it is brighter. Curtains or blinds can be closed at nighttime to block view. (During daytime, you can see out while having privacy from outside due to the sunlight outside.) Why are both sides silver? / Why is there reflection from inside? The film is silver on each side, but reflection is more apparent from the side having more light. This is why during daytime, the film looks like a mirror from outside while allowing view from inside. This is reversed at night with lights inside. Why does the window feel warmer after the film has been installed? This is an expected result. The window with the film installed feels warmer because the film stops some of the heat. If the film is not there, the heat felt on the window would instead enter the room. Why did bubbles (or spots where film is not adhering properly) form after the film was installed? This is due to the moisture left inside. The film may appear fine when installed, but afterwards, the water can interfere with the adhesive and cause bubbles to form. Apply firm pressure with the squeegee and push out the water to prevent bubbles.

I noticed a LOT of reviews complain about the lack of NIGHTTIME privacy on here and it honestly made me laugh. šŸ˜‚ Did yall not read the description?? It was mentioned several times that this is a DAYTIME privacy film for your windows. Anyways. This is PERFECT!! I love it! Iā€™d give it more than 5 stars if I could. I needed a window film that would block nosy neighbors from looking in, but still allowing me to see outside. Bonus points for also keeping the outside heat OUTISDE. šŸ‘šŸ¼ This works perfectly! Not only does it block my nosy ass neighbor, but it offers a mirror for the wildlife to check themselves out lol Which is awesome. It was easy to install. Measure the inside of your windows first!! Then cut each piece needed for that window. (Leave an extra inch of film so it overlays on the edges so you can do a clean cut) Put a piece of tape in the top corners (do BOTH corners) like the instructions mention. It helps to get the two pieces separated and you can hold onto the tape while getting it sprayed down and put on the window. I had my kid help me and she held the film up while I sprayed it (donā€™t forget to spray the window first! I used baby shampoo mixed with water). Once you lay it against the glass it will automatically stick (and slightly move around). Use the tool to trim off the excess so you get a perfect fit. Then you push out all the air. Youā€™re going to have to do this several times to make sure you get out ALL the air bubbles. And hopefully you washed your windows first! Before it completely dries, look at the window in a bunch of different angles to see if there is any bubbles left anywhere. If so push them out. Donā€™t see any? Move onto the next window. Easy peasy.. -Wash windows -Measure inside of windows -Cut pieces & leave an extra inch -Tape on top corners to separate & hold film -Spray window & then spray film -Place film on window -Trim film to fit -Squeeze out bubbles -Enjoy šŸ˜Š ... show more

    • Privacy & a Cooler Home - Mission Accomplished!

The product arrived promptly and in perfect condition. My windows look like a silver reflective mirror on the exterior. I am very happy with the level of privacy this film provides however I should clarify a few things about it's effectiveness. The level of effectiveness depends on where the light source is. What I mean by this is, during the day the light source (i.e. the sun) is on the outside and my home is darker on the inside, so passersby cannot see in my home. I can walk around in my pjs and be invisible. But because I have skylights and the back of my home is all windows, when the sun is shining in brightly - and, I have a strong light source inside my home - passersby are able to see movement inside and see my outline (when not standing directly in front of the window). They still cannot see details, like what I'm wearing or if I have rollers in my hair. However, when I'm standing directly in front of the window passersby cannot see me at all, despite any light inside my home during the day. Night time is a different story. It is dark outside and the light source is now inside the home so passersby can see everything! Either keep your lights off or invest in some blinds - you don't want to be one of those neighbours! When it comes to looking from inside-out I can see perfectly clearly during the day, although there is a slight reflection. The caveat is that it makes the interior of my home darker during the day (like a rainly day) as it filters the sunlight. The silver lining is that is prevents uv rays from damaging my furniture and keeps my home cooler than usual, reducing the need for AC. The clarity is also perfect at night when looking out. Because the interior windows have a mirror-like quality to them at night it produces a strong reflection so turning off interior lights is needed to see outside. With respect to installation, initial installation was tricky however with practice became seemless. I would not recommend installing alone, ask a friend or family member to help. Steps followed: 1) Lay film on the table and cut to size; 2)Take over to window; 3) One hold two top corners of film while other peels 50% of the backing off; 4) spray the window & outside of the film with soapy water (avoid plain water as soap makes it easier to smooth out the bubbles and avoid ripping the film. Use dove dish liquid dish soap); 5) person holding the film, place two corners of film in two top corners of window and hold while the other person carries out the next step; 6) starting at the top of the film, place scraper in middle and run it towards the right, pressing firmly to eliminate any bubbles/water under the film (don't worry about tiny bubbles, they will evaporate and disappear over time). Place scraper in middle again and run it towards the left; 7) repeat this as you work your way down the film; **Note** Be sure to continuously spray soapy mixture over film to ensure scraper slides effortlessly and you do not scratch the film. This will also allow you to press harder, eliminating bubbles and ensure smooth application. Overall, I would absolutely recommend this product if your main goal is to achieve privacy during the day, prevent harmfull uv rays from entering your home, or to keep your home cool of those hot summer days. I recently put together some shelves to display my movie collection but didn't realize until after the fact that it would be baking in direct sunlight from our glass patio door for a couple of hours a day. I was concerned that the cover art on the disc cases would bleach and fade over time, so I decided to look into tinted window films. Personally, I would have preferred a dark (but transparent) film that didn't have a highly reflective property to it (for privacy) but I couldn't find such a product. It appeared as though if I wanted to tint the glass with window film from Amazon, I'd have to live with the reflectiveness. In the end I settled for the BDF-S05 window film since, at least from the product photos and description, it would be the most appropriate shade. Now that I've installed it, I think I made the right choice. It definitely reduces the concentrated sun glare significantly, and that's all I really needed it to do. Problem solved. I could leave my review there, but I do want to point out a few issues I encountered during installation and let you know what to expect. First, regarding the "privacy" claim. Yes, the silver backing is HIGHLY reflective and from the outside during the day it is basically a mirror. But here's the thing: I personally didn't have an issue with privacy without film on the windows, because during the day it's darker inside the house than it is outside, so unless someone puts their face against the glass no one was going to see inside. Nighttime is when privacy becomes more of a concern when it's dark outside but lights are on inside. This film isn't going to solve that problem, though it doesn't claim to. I'm just letting you know now that this won't provide privacy at night and you'll need to use curtains or blinds. For the reasons I mentioned, I personally feel that this film is utterly useless for privacy, day or night, unless you are in a brightly lit room or office that can be seen from outside during daylight. But the reason I REALLY hate the reflective properties is that at night the windows become a reverse-privacy window. Meaning, if your lights are on anyone outside can see in but you will not be able to see outside. The window becomes an indoor mirror at night, and an outdoor mirror during the day. This is especially true if you live in an area that is fairly dark at night with not much street lighting. However, I cannot fault the product for this because I believe the reflectiveness is a necessary thermal feature to bounce the sun's heat away (similar to foil windshield visors). Installation is not necessarily difficult, but it is tedious and HIGHLY prone to human error. Especially if you've never applied window film before. I have, but only the static cling kind without an adhesive backing. That is what I am used to, and that's what I thought this was. So, like an idiot, I first applied this without removing what I later discovered was a very thin, clear layer covering what is, indeed, an adhesive backing. I noticed this only after the next day when it was slowly peeling off the glass. Surprisingly it stayed on the glass for a full 24 hours without first peeling off the protective layer! Ok, so I'm not winning any Darwin awards this year it seems. The other thing to keep in mind is that the end result is likely not going to be perfect unless the glass you're working with is perfect. My door has a few "bumps", nearly invisible, that are just unexplained raised dots on the glass. Only in a few areas, but the window film enhances their appearance. This is because it's not possible to smooth over these areas with the film as it's designed to be flat. So the "bump" becomes a visible, albeit tiny, permanent bubble in the film. Again, not a fault of the product, but of my glass. Other things to consider: make sure the glass is soaking wet in a water/soap solution before and during application. Cut to size first with roughly an inch overhang on all sides (you'll trim them off after). Make sure the area is free from hair, fur, and other debris. I tried my best to do this, but it's nearly impossible. Even after cleaning the windows, there were a few stray cat fur strands and perhaps one of my eyelashes that are now forever trapped between the glass and the film like a mosquito trapped in amber. It is what it is. Like I said, I just needed it to block out concentrated sun glare and it works just fine. Despite the imperfections, which are not the product's fault, it looks fine too. Those imperfections are really only noticeable if you're up close and looking for them. Lastly, I am a bit skeptical of the claims this product makes with regards to the percentage values of UV blockage and such. I'm not sure where those numbers come from or who tested for those results. If it's an independent third party that certifies that type of thing, then ok. But any testing done by a manufacturer with a marketing interest should be taken with a grain of salt. Since I cannot know for sure, I will (cautiously) give them the benefit of the doubt. The Only Film I Buy! A Loyal Customer's 5-Star Recommendation I have been using the BDF S05/505 Window Film for years. Seriously!! I've done the windows in four separate homes (three for myself and one for my mother), and I keep coming back because this product simply works better than anything else. Why I'm a Lifetime Customer: *Massive Heat Reduction: While the film naturally dims the amount of direct sun, the single biggest benefit is the drastic reduction in heat coming into the house. It makes a huge, noticeable difference in keeping my home cool and reducing AC costs during the summer. *Natural Appearance & HOA Approved (Unofficially!): This is the best part for me. From the outside, the film looks incredibly natural. Itā€™s highly effective, but it doesn't give a tacky, dark-tinted appearance. In fact, no HOA in any of the houses has ever noticed I have a mirror film on the windows. *Daytime Privacy You Can Trust: The privacy is excellent. I can leave my blinds slightly cracked or even open during the day and not worry about neighbors seeing in. Love this!!! I installed it myself on my front door. It was fairly easy to install and filters the sunlight very well. Love the mirrored effect and the privacy it provides! I replaced six windows and a sliding glass door recently. Living in the desert of the Southwest. Even if you get energy efficient windows, you truly need to tint them is my own personal belief. This helps cut down on the the amount of solar radiation that still passes through window also cuts down on the glare. The tent that I chose, it does have a mirror like reflectiveness, and therefore, during the day, I can open the windows right and people on the exterior of my house.Our unable to see in even if they press their face up to the window. I'd premeasured all of the need that I had for tint, with linear footage and uh, wit, and this roll matched, my needs almost precisely. I did have some leftover, which was fantastic. So that I was able to repair any, did I, it may have been messed up on. It was convenient that the the window tent roll did come with. Hey, squeegee thing device for 2 smoothing out the tent. Once you put it on the window, it also came with a razor knife. So that you could cut the window tint into length, and then when you got it to the window, you were able to then yeah. Trim it down to the size of the window. I did buy an additional window tinting kit. They had a few extra pieces that assisted in my ability to apply the window tint more effectively, but you could do it with what was supplied already. I'm very happy with t. Outcome of the window chin, I would recommend this brand for anyone else. It is what they call a static cling, but you do need to apply a soapy water to help in application. So that it can smooth it out once applied to the window. The nice feature of this is so long as you use enough of the soapy water you are able to adjust the tint and if need be pulled off the window and reapply without doing any damage to the tint. I do recommend if you plan on. Doing window tinting on your own to measure all of your windows length and width and try to buy window tint that matches the total linear length and get it as close to the width. Matching the width will help eliminate some of the problems that you will find when applying it. I had ordered this in the maximum with I needed for the sliding glass door therefore, I had an excessive amount of width when applying to the windows, making it a little awkward to work with. I did make a few mistakes and ran out of the length. But with all of the excess that I had remaining based off of trimming the width off, I was able to do my last window but I had to overlay.And try to match the edges. It wasn't pretty, but it's effective. It did work and down the road if I decide to correct it it's just one window but it's still does what I need it to do. I provided 3 images, one showing the difference that it makes with the window partly open so you can see how bright it is out. And how much the tint cuts down on the glare, the other 21 is showing a full windowpane done in one coating, the other showing the scrap pieces used to complete the window. ... show more

I gave 3 stars because this didnā€™t serve my purpose however it is a good product if you didnā€™t buy it for my reasons. Letā€™s talk Pros and Cons Pros : ā€¢Easy Installation - pro tip for unpealing backing - bite down on a corner with your teeth and grind your teeth back and forth until it comes off and stick your tongue in between film & backing and itā€™ll come right off. I do window tint on cars and wrap cars so this is a tip we use when working with film. Make sure you use soap and water and squeegee left and right. ā€¢Reduces heat and makes your home SOOOO much cooler... You still get natural light but itā€™s not making your home extremely hot. Letā€™s talk about how this film works... This film is GREAT for the day time. Why? Because all of the light is coming from the outside. Itā€™s reflecting the light creating a mirror effect whenever the light source is. So outside in the day time, itā€™ll be a mirror reflection. Now what about ar nighy? Oh no 100% terrible. It offers no privacy. Why? because when you turn on the lights in your home it created a mirror reflection on the inside of the windows. So I canā€™t even see outside because all the light is in my house making it mirrored from the inside. If you walk outside and look inside, itā€™s just as if the windows are slightly tinted. Absolutely no mirror reflection on the outside at night because there is no light source outside... Now during the day time, while it is mirror reflective, if you put your head against the window you can see straight in and see everything. this is only really great for mirror reflection if youā€™re far away from the mirror. So during the day time this mirror is great. You get a nice mirror reflection, still get sunlight while keeping your house cool & it offers some privacy. At night time rhis doesnā€™t do anything & actually makes seeing out of the windows extremely difficult and in my opinion useless because I want to be able to see outside at night without seeing my bette home reflection. So again - this product is NOT for me bc I wanted NIGHT time privacy without having to have blinds shut 24/7. But for the day time this is good. It really jusr depends on your wants and needs for this product. In an apartment building up high, this would be perfect. The film is very good and it works as intended. The shipping container was pretty good and it protected the film. No issues during installation. I noticed a big difference of temperature after installing it in the rooms. Especially where the sunlight hit the most. Make sure to trim the film to the window size (minus 1/8" from the window border) for a smooth installation.
