    • Keeps an axolotl cool and happy
This has been keeping a 40-gallon tank (and axolotl) chilled 64-66 degrees every day for 16 months. The aquarium is in a bedroom, and it’s not too loud. Instructions are straightforward. I would buy it again if I set up another tank.

    • How to setup for auto temperature control
It is very hard to set up because the manual wasn't very clear. I hope to provide some helpful information here. To set for the auto temperature control, the temperature difference is the F01 function, and if you set this to 2, then it will allow the temperature to frustrate within 2 degrees. For example, if your temperature setting is: 64, and the F01 is: 2. Then, when the chiller temperature hits the upper limit 65, it will turn on automatically, when the chiller temperature drops to 63, it will turn off. So, essentially keep the temperature around 64. It works pretty well for my Axolotl tank. However, with this setting, the chiller will run for ~1.5 mins, and keep at this temperature for ~3.75mins with my room temperature at 76 degrees. Also, these temperatures are the temperature within the chiller, not your tank. So, to fine tune your tank temperature you need a different theomenter for the tank, and adjust the chiller temperature accordingly. It has been over a week since I got the chiller setup, it works amazingly for my Axolotl. Be aware, if you follow the manual it says to set F01 to 10, that means the chiller will turn on when the chiller temperature rises 10 degrees above the temperature setting. ... show more

    • Loud Way to Cool Your Tank
This tank cooler does perform its base function. I have had this for over a week and it keeps the water around 64F in a 40 gal tank without issue. The temperature control is ok, but you need to have a second thermometer because the internal one is influenced by the cooler. I'm set at 64 with a 3 degree span. This gets me a 64.1-65.2 tank temperature. This is fine, but an external probe would make this way more precise and easier to find the optimal settings (it took a couple days for each test to settle in and was not intuitive). On the accessories side, the pump is loud with a grinding sound; the tubing has a strong chemical smell that I didn't love using, but I did since I needed to get it installed. You'll probably need to replace at least the pump. unless noise (and concerns about voltage leak) are not a concern The unit itself is LOUD. The fans are shrill with weird harmonic whines. I will eventually replace, but there has to be a better 120V fan that won't sound like I have a bitcoin miner in my living room. I don't know if other options are better, but if this one fails I'll but a different brand. ... show more

I use this in a 25gal rdwc system for plants. Stays within a degree. No complaints. Easy setup. I can't tell when it's running and barely hear it every once in a while on start up.
