  • Eye opening book!
I really enjoyed going through this book. I particularly appreciated learning about the different styles of playing the banjo. That was eye opening. Bill Evans is a great teacher. His instructions are very clear and concise. The video and audio recordings are very helpful. He goes through everything from A to Z, including maintaining the instrument. I also like Bill’s suggestion about finding people/groups to play with. It’s a great instrument. Now it’s a matter of deciding on which style to play and just practicing! ... show more

  • Great Beginning Banjo book
Very good book. The author first states...find yourself a good local acoustic music instrument shop. Go there to look for your 1st Banjo. Don't buy a cheap internet banjo. You can tune a motorcycle, but you can't keep a cheap $150 banjo in tune!

  • A decent starter book
This book is a good place to start. However, if you are planning on playing mainly bluegrass, the Bluegrass for Dummies book has more tunes and better online tabs.

  • The complete guide to playing banjo
Bill Evans is a long-time and skilled teacher of 5-string banjo, and his book reflects that. He introduces the readers to pickin' the 5-string and brings them to a skill level that will make them comfortable playing in jam sessions or a band. This is a very well done book that brings all of Mr. Evans's teaching and picking skills to bear. Highly recommended. ... show more
