The BalanceFrom Easy Walk-Thru Safety Gate is a good gate for the price. The metal construction is sturdy and durable. Minimal assembly required. Positioning on the doorway was a bit frustrating and I would recommend two people for that to save time and aggravation. Once it is in place it is nice. Elegant appearance that blends nicely with neutral decor of my apartment. I needed to restrict my beagle to the kitchen area when the maintenance man comes to the apartment. My beagle insists he is protecting us from anyone in the apartment and will bark and chase them out (if taken seriously). He likes to stay in the kitchen near his food and water dish so we figured we would put the gate there so he won't feel he is being punished, just contained for a short while. Clever dog figured out how to close the door himself. We keep it open and he learned he can close it and even closed us inside the kitchen as well. Gate will auto latch and the dog figured that out quickly. The dog can't open the gate, fortunately. Very easy to open and close. A good value. ... show more

Initial impression/Initial review: High quality Super easy to install Sturdy Looks nice I purchased this as a way to keep my dogs confined to one area when guests are visiting. I am very pleased with it! It opens and closes easily and looks nice. I just leave it up and open when not using. But removing it and reinstalling it just takes a few minutes. Updated review: I still LOVE this gate. It's seriously awesome and looks so much nicer than most other options. BUT, when I took it down, it pulled paint and plaster off my walls 😭 Pretty bummed about that. I have since added circular, felt furniture pads to the end of each of the original rubber pads to protect my walls. Its a MUST and I wish I had known to do this from the beginning. ... show more

Very satisfied with this gate. I had doubts about the locking mechanism but once installed I loved it, not only does it close the door with the lock at the top but it also stays secured at the bottom, you have to open at the top and then lift the gate a little to be able to open the door. I read online reviews for hours before selecting this gate. We are very impressed with it! It is sturdy, blends in with our house aesthetic, and most importantly, keeps our puppy contained when we need him to be in a safe location while we are out. It is easy to open and close for both adults and our sons ages 12 and 10. It closes and locks automatically, but in a soft, easy way, not in a slamming, loud way. The installation took 10 minutes. I needed dog gates to segment my home to minimize areas to monitor for dog mess during the housebreak phase of my Toy Fox Terrier Rocky (pictured). Local pet stores were a joke...they all wanted $100+ for even the most minimalistic gate, and many were just not-so-cheap, but "cheap" plastic. Some were wood. I found this mostly metal gate on Amazon and risked buying two for less cost than single instances of other gates. The features its ad documents are absolutely true. There is no assembly required except to slide four width adjusting screw pads into four holes...top and bottom left and right. Hand tightening is all that is required to install in a doorway, though a level to ensure that the gate is plumb should guarantee a proper auto-closure. The gate does remain open when opened to somewhat less than 90 degrees (pictured) and does swing shut automatically at lower angles. This gate is a must-buy steal!! There are four additional plastic caps that can be screwed to the door frame to keep the pressure pads from slipping. They recommend their use at stair tops, but I found they can help one enamel-painted door frames, as an accidental kick to the gate in passing can dislodge it without them. The multi-step opening procedure (slide handle, lift door, swing open) is easier than it sounds, and may outsmart the most ingenious child, and definitely my dog! This gate is inexpensive in comparison, very sturdy, and fits a range of common-width doorways without the need for the additional optional extensions. ... show more
