You have to screw it in to the wall. Works great for what we need. Adults can open it one handed but my big kids need both hands, and my two year old can't shake it open which is an improvement over my last 3 gates. Easily adjusted and removed when necessary. Fits odd shapes with its hinged 3 panel. Wide door way so easy to carry things through. The bottom has a little give and slides around but not enough to cause us any issues. The door does shut on its own which can be annoying or helpful depending on the situation, if you put it in the right spot it will stay open ( is labeled so you know where the right spot is) pretty simple to install if you have the right tools. overall I think it's great, stable and secure ... show more

Keeping this 5 stars, but adding some user suggestions or even suggestions for the manufacturer too. 1. ADD RUBBER GRIP PADS to the bottom of each corner of the gate where it hinges and touches the floor. Do this only if installing the gate over HARD floors. This will protect your floor from children who like to push and pull and kick the gate which causes it to move slightly back and forth and cause a nice scratch in your floor if you do not have these pads. it will add more grip and keep the gate from budging at all. I bought 1.5 inch self adhesive rubber grip pads from Walmart and I found them to be perfect size. 2. If you are trying to keep a small cat or dog inside the gated area you will need to weave cardboard or some other material in and out of the bars to keep small animals from squeezing between the bars. This is almost a reason for me to remove one star, but it is such a great gate and I bought it originally for child as it is designed for anyway. Recently started fostering kittens, and up went the cardboard to keep them in kitchen till litter-box-trained. 6 months and still going strong. Fantastic product. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- original review as follows: Super easy to mount and to use. Look no further, unless you utterly refuse to drill a few holes (10 total). I have only had the gate for a week or less, but I'm convinced it's the best I have ever used and seen. There is no assembly required other than mounting the gate and making some minor adjustments by loosening and re tightening a screw or two. Only suggestion I might have is to mount the bracket that touches the floor, then put the gate on that mount, next clip the mount that goes on the upper corner then mark on the wall where you want it. This will be easier than the included paper mounting guides and it will allow you to make the gate super snug if so desired. This will also allow you to account for any potential imperfections in your floor.... or just use the included guides, whatever makes most sense to you. TIP 2: if you put this gate between a kitchen and carpeted area, I suggest putting the gate on the kitchen side so that if your children take food to the gated limit they will get messes on the hard floor and not the carpet. ... show more

This is seriously the best baby gate I’ve ever seen. The design is great! They really thought of just about everything. For starters, the bottom mount is adjustable to a baseboard. Unfortunately, we weren’t able to take advantage of this design perk because we also have “shoe molding” (or whatever my husband called it) on our baseboards, so we mounted it just above it, leaving it a little bit off the ground. But it’s still a great design. The other awesome part about this design is that it can easily be removed from the wall mounts. It’s extremely secure because it screws into the wall, but can be easily removed so you can take the gate down, or swing it open if necessary. This is major because my Dad is handicapped, so we wanted a gate that he could get through easily. With this design, you simply unhook one side and swing the whole thing open. Those were the two things that really stood out to me about the design. Great product. Easy installation. Highly recommend ... show more

I read the reviews saying this doesn’t work with baseboard trim, but I bought it anyway expecting to need to use a shim. I’m not sure if the reviewers didn’t read the instructions or they changed the product, but this has a sliding mechanism that allows the bottom sides to adjust so it fits against baseboard without the need for a shim on the top. It does want you to have flat baseboard. Mine is short and rounded, so I was only able to screw in 2 of the 3 on the bottoms, but it still seems sturdy enough. Only real concern is They only thing I'm concerned about it is that just by the nature of the design, it isn't super super sturdy. It hinges in two places so that you can adapt it to the size of your entry as opposed to it being one rigid piece that bypass slides. Although it has a locking mechanism on 2 hinges in the fencing so it doesn't hinge freely, but you can still move the whole fence back and forth a couple inches either way fairly easily when you pull on it. It’s just so long and partly because of that hinge design, it has a little pay to it. So hopefully by the time our baby is strong enough to pull on it too hard, we won't need the gates anymore, but it isn’t a problem yet. But I needed this one as opposed to a one-piece gate because my walls are at different angles, and the design of this one makes that work easily. So this was really my only option. But the door works well and I didn’t think the installation was too bad, but it might take you 30-45 min depending on your entryway.
