  • More torque than I expected!
Color: Display P860C Size: 1000W+46T+52V19.2Ah Shark Battery
I’ve been looking for a good E bike at an affordable price for a long time. I knew I did not want a hub drive motor because of the low torque and problems I’ve seen with axles spinning and ripping out the wires. My only option for the torque I wanted is a mid drive motor. Many of these E bikes with mid drive motors are several thousand dollars and I did not want to spend that much money. I bought this conversion kit for an old Kona that I’ve had for many years. I now have a mid drive 1000 W electric bike for under $1500. Buyer beware – this thing has more torque than I expected. I’ve been thrown off the bike twice so far due to the front wheel coming off the ground and my slow reaction to grab the rear brake. I’m learning that you need to start out in the lower assist mode so it doesn’t do that. Starting out in assist mode five is extremely risky especially if you are facing even slightly uphill. Overall I give this thing five stars and I’m thrilled with the performance and range. If you are even slightly mechanically inclined I highly recommend this conversion kit. You can save a ton of money and still have the feel of the bike that you are used to riding. The kit comes with a few tools but not everything you might need for your bike. Keep that in mind. I had to buy a couple of things to take my bike apart. The kit was very easy to install in just a few hours. If I had to do it again I could do it in under an hour. I weigh around 240 pounds at 6 foot one, and this bike can pull me up any hill. It has pedal assist and throttle, and it seems like pedal assist gives you 75% of the power and when you add throttle you get the remaining power. The average bike rider probably doesn’t need 1000 W mid drive conversion kit, so you really should consider what you want. I’m sure that the 500 or 750 W machine would be just fine for someone my size who is just riding around town. That extra power extends your capabilities to dirt hill climbs and more extreme to rain. Take your time and learn how to safely ride with this mid drive modification because you can get seriously injured if you are thrown off the bike backwards. Also, be prepared to improvise battery location. My frame was too tight to install inside the frame so it had to go on top. I also had to buy a top mount battery bracket because I did not want to drill holes in my frame. ... show more

  • Awesome power in a DIY package
Color: Display P860C Size: 750W+46T+48V20Ah Shark Battery
I electrified my Xtracycle Edgerunner with this kit. I chose the 750W motor and 46T gear. This was a good pick for me with a heavy bike that mostly stays on flat ground. It's now super fast and 100% silent! I recently got it up to 26MPH going slightly downhill. I previously had a Rad Power bike and that thing made a high pitch whine that I don't miss. There's a slight stutter when throttling from a standstill, but I think that's to be expected. Installation was pretty straightforward with the instructions. The challenges involved removing existing parts: crankset, brake levers, front deraileur. There were no instructions for this so be prepared to look up and learn if you've never done this. I will say I was impressed that they included a crank puller. Brakes needed adjusting after changing the levers. Note for my specific installation: the 20Ah batter was too big to install on the downtube with the water bottle mounts. The Xtracycle has special mounting holes for a battery on the chainstay, but the holes on the battery mount didn't fit. Ultimately, I opened the battery mount casing and used a hole in the casing. See pictures. From there, you just have to be creative about running cables. Could be better: * Include a taillight * Longer speed sensor cable (or include the extension) * Battery switch integrated with the key (locked off mode) Very happy with this kit overall! ... show more

  • Go for it!!
Color: C18-9 Display Size: 48V 750W+46T (No Battery)
This kit is super well-designed and well-thought-out. The instructions for installation are not that good, and I'm really not a big fan of UR codes for installation guides. Youtube has several people that have posted really good videos, highly recommend those before you dive into this build. As an engineer/technician, this was a fun build. Take your time and do things right, you won't regret it. I'm loving how fast/fun my bike is now. ... show more

  • Great motor
Very powerful motor, was able to get up to 35mph in a slight decline. It was easy to install. Love it.

  • Not the best fit in the tube
The majority of the install was pretty simple. Plenty YouTube videos to follow. My complaint is the kit I purchased says it fits the 73mm tube. While it does technically fit, I would not say very well. Installing into a 73mm tube leaves few teeth for the final cap to grab on to when installing. But my biggest complaint is that the right side pedal crank is spaced properly from the lower bike frame arm. However the left crank misses the lower frame arm by about 1/8th of an inch. This gets on my OCD's nerves..... Apart from that, it pushes my fat @ss around (750 motor) no problem. I purchased a 20 amp hour 48v. Without pedal assist, I can hit 30 mph on straight land and no wind. With pedal assist I have seen 36 mph. After converting my Trek hard tail mountain bike, I have the cost of this kit (750c display, 750 watt motor) and a pricey 20Ah battery pack, I am in for a little over 1,100 dollars just for this kit and battery. I could have purchased a new bike, and let someone else do all the work for near the same price. Unless you are just bored and love tinkering (also make sure you have all the correct tools), I personally would just buy a bike and be done with it. The kit came with a crank arm puller, however you still may need the socket for removing the cranks shaft from the tube. Thanks to a local bike shop, I paid them 10 dollars to remove the cranks shaft. Also, apparently the old speed sensor used a flat head screw driver, the speed sensor that arrived with my kit came with a SECURITY star bit. Good thing I happened to have a security star bit set, or that is another tool I would have had to purchase. Security star bits have a metal dimple in the middle. Real pain if you have to purchase a security star wrench set just for this install. Oh, not near enough zip ties either. I had to use plenty of my own. ... show more
