    • Good stuff; one jar lasts for six months!
I love the “Purefume” scent of most Aveda products. This is no exception. With daily use, this will last a good six months for a person with relatively short hair. I cannot comment on longevity for someone with longer hair. So, while it may seem expensive upfront, consider that you can easily get 150 uses out of one purchase. The quality is outstanding. My hair is relatively thick, and this product makes it hold in place all day. I don’t use a hair dryer, but my sister has used this, and it also works fairly well with some of the other Aveda products when using a blow dryer. You will “stank purty.” ... show more

This stuff has a heavy, gel-like texture and a wonderful, clean but earthy scent. It exudes a "quality" vibe, which most Aveda products have, and carries a price tag to match. Don't worry, you won't need to use much, and for me a tub lasts for a year or more. It primarily adds shine and scent, and some hold. It has some weight to it, so don't expect it to add volume, especially to fine hair. I use it to paste down the sides of my hair when I'm overdue for a cut. It's also nice on a beard.     • Compare to American Crew...
Let me start by saying that American Crew is the standard pomade that I use, but there are a few shortcomings with it that keep me looking elsewhere. Compared to AC, this pomade has a slightly thinner texture. This is a good thing as it makes application a little easier. But I still have to cut it with water on my hands before application. My ideal pomade would be thinner still (but not so thin as "cream style" pomade) and wouldn't require wetting my hands first. The Aveda pomade has a stronger fragrance than AC. My ideal pomade would have no fragrance. I feel unqualified to evaluate fragrances so I couldn't tell you whether it has hints of sandalwood and notes of oakmoss or whatever because I have no idea what those things are. In my opinion it is not as masculine-smelling as AC. Finally, the cost which is about 2x that of AC, means I probably won't be buying this in the future. ... show more

I am actually and female and I love this product! I got my hair done and my stylist used it on me and it smelled so good that I had to get some! Sadly I thought when I purchased this it was the same thing she used, but it wasn't. She used the clay hair style on me, not the pomade. So I returned this product to get the clay one that I needed.
