Thought it might help to have a review that wasn't free! Bought this as a replacement for the very overpriced GE Opal ice maker that began its inevitable screeching. Chose this one because of the side tank (such a must) and the large bin capacity (actually larger than the opal). Been up for a week now and is working like a champ. Wife is happy with the extra capacity. So yes, I do recommend at this point. More expensive than some of the others that don't have a side tank and much less capacity, but those are non-negotiables for us, but much less expensive than the Opal.

I absolutely love this ice maker. The ice bucket stays full and it keeps what it makes over night frozen. The bucket also holds a lot more than my GE Opal that stopped working after 2 years. It's quite and the ice is perfect!!

Only four because when it is full and not making ice it gets so noisy, like it is going to quit, I have to unplug it. Changing from 4 to 5. The noise turned out to be nothing. It makes a lot of ice. A couple of quirky things: The gasket at the bottom of the water tank looks like it will fail fairly soon. I'll be looking to get spares. Another weird thing is the seal is actually so good that a vacuum can build up in the water tank slowing ice production when the internal tank gets low until you open the external tank releasing the vacuum.

Bought this nugget ice maker to replace a small countertop one that I'd bought 2 years ago. It is a lot more expensive (like , twice the price of my old one), but I really like the idea of having a separate water tank instead of it being under the ice basket inside the unit and the addition of a UV cleaning cycle. The Avalon Nugget Ice Maker is a nice machine; it makes and holds a ton of ice. The water tank is easy to pick up and fill, and it's large capacity means I'm not constantly having to open the machine and take out the ice basket so I can check how much water is in it like my old unit. It's not very loud, unless you have it in a very quiet space I found myself easily tuning out the noises it made. So far the machine has been running perfectly and we've been enjoying the crunchy ice immensely. Here's a basic list of pros and cons I've so far noticed with it: PROS: -Holds a ton of ice -Large water tank and recirculation of melted ice water means I'm not having to fill it as often -Ice drawer has a thick clear front so I can see how much ice is in it easily, and seems to keep the ice from melting super fast. -Makes ice quickly CONS: -It's HUGE and heavy, probably about 3 times larger than the typical countertop ice makers. Plan your space for it accordingly. -Instructions are vague at best and confusing at worst. Better labeling of parts/features would be much appreciated. For instance, there are 2 tubes on the back of the machine, one is never actually labeled what it is or goes to, leaving you to guess at its function. A diagram of the bottom of the unit used to show where the tank bracket is attached was not labeled and left us confused on what it was showing. -The ice scoop has a hook built onto the end for hanging it, but there is nowhere on the unit to hang it from...
