My GE Opal died after 3-4 years and didn't feel the need to spend another $500 on a unit that needed to be cleaned too often, often had issues, and the stories about mildew building in the units. This model isn't built as well, and the water tank actually holds a little under an actual gallon, but it's less than 1/2 the price, holds a great amount of ice(more than Opal), and seems to pump out ice quicker as well. It's a cool looking unit with the blue light, and so far so good. I'm happy with this purchase.

Nice but BIG, with poor instructions

Bought this nugget ice maker to replace a small countertop one that I'd bought 2 years ago. It is a lot more expensive (like , twice the price of my old one), but I really like the idea of having a separate water tank instead of it being under the ice basket inside the unit and the addition of a UV cleaning cycle. The Avalon Nugget Ice Maker is a nice machine; it makes and holds a ton of ice. The water tank is easy to pick up and fill, and it's large capacity means I'm not constantly having to open the machine and take out the ice basket so I can check how much water is in it like my old unit. It's not very loud, unless you have it in a very quiet space I found myself easily tuning out the noises it made. So far the machine has been running perfectly and we've been enjoying the crunchy ice immensely. Here's a basic list of pros and cons I've so far noticed with it: PROS: -Holds a ton of ice -Large water tank and recirculation of melted ice water means I'm not having to fill it as often -Ice drawer has a thick clear front so I can see how much ice is in it easily, and seems to keep the ice from melting super fast. -Makes ice quickly CONS: -It's HUGE and heavy, probably about 3 times larger than the typical countertop ice makers. Plan your space for it accordingly. -Instructions are vague at best and confusing at worst. Better labeling of parts/features would be much appreciated. For instance, there are 2 tubes on the back of the machine, one is never actually labeled what it is or goes to, leaving you to guess at its function. A diagram of the bottom of the unit used to show where the tank bracket is attached was not labeled and left us confused on what it was showing. -The ice scoop has a hook built onto the end for hanging it, but there is nowhere on the unit to hang it from...

Not a happy customer

I’m giving it a 1star because when I first got it , it was awesome but within a day or so the machine started making the loud grinding noise and the ice is foamed as nuggets but I noticed they aren’t fully frozen. Tried contacting the company but they have no longer a phone line to call and they don’t respond to any messages or emails

Solid replacement for GE Opal

Thought it might help to have a review that wasn't free! Bought this as a replacement for the very overpriced GE Opal ice maker that began its inevitable screeching. Chose this one because of the side tank (such a must) and the large bin capacity (actually larger than the opal). Been up for a week now and is working like a champ. Wife is happy with the extra capacity. So yes, I do recommend at this point. More expensive than some of the others that don't have a side tank and much less capacity, but those are non-negotiables for us, but much less expensive than the Opal.

Only four because when it is full and not making ice it gets so noisy, like it is going to quit, I have to unplug it. Changing from 4 to 5. The noise turned out to be nothing. It makes a lot of ice. A couple of quirky things: The gasket at the bottom of the water tank looks like it will fail fairly soon. I'll be looking to get spares. Another weird thing is the seal is actually so good that a vacuum can build up in the water tank slowing ice production when the internal tank gets low until you open the external tank releasing the vacuum.

I have had several ice machines and this by far is the best yet. It's like an ice machine on steroids. We have a lots of company and usually have 2 going on the weekends (and still run out), but with this generous 5 lb ice bin and 1 gallon water tank, we haven't run out yet. If you are obsessed with that soft, crunchy style nugget ice, this machine does a good job. It literally starts dropping ice with in like 10 or 15 minutes of turning it on, and it fills up the basket way faster than I expected. The extra side water tank is a nice perk because you don't have to constantly baby it and refill it every five minutes, plus it's super easy to just pop off and carry over to the sink or fill with a water jug. It definitely makes a steady hum and some clicking when the ice drops but honestly, for me it's totally fine and doesn't bother us at all. It is a bit of a beast size wise, but it fits perfectly right on top of our kitchen cart. You will need to keep a small paper towel at the drip tray under the bucket for when you open it. Super simple. Haven't had any issues, we have been using it non stop for months now.

If I could give this negative stars I would. For the price, you’d think that this would last at least a week. I had this for one day and after the first full 24 hours it started making the noise in my video. I initiated a return and got a replacement thinking that one was defective. However, the second one came and I installed it, super excited, three days in and it made the exact same noise. It sounds like a motorcycle on top of my countertop. It’s extremely loud. It does not make ice after it starts making this sound. I’m returning both of them. The only positive thing I will give it is that it makes the exact ice cubes that sonic makes, which is what I was looking for. If it could just get its life together, I would keep it forever. Do not buy!!
