First the issues: The installation was slow, because there was no cutting template included with the package. Only dimensions for the cut out were included in the instructions, and they were in metric measurements. After some conversion, I created my own template on some blank paper. Rest of installation was fine, but be sure to not tighten the screws too much, as noted in the instructions as well. The second issue is the timer. As far as using the sunrise and sunset settings, those work well. The close occurs at last light, not sunset, so about 15-20 minutes after sunset. This is ok, and for my chickens, it would actually work better if it was a little be later than that. If you want to use the fixed time, then you must be present to set that time when it occurs. So if you want it to open at say 6 am, then you must make that setting at 6 am. I don't use this, as my chicks are young, and they can't tell time yet. The Good: It works. Be sure to charge it completely first, using adapter and wall plug. But the door has worked great everyday since day one, even though 50% of the days were cloudy. The door has a unique feature, which is that when it is closing, it will close all the way, then reopen 3/4 of the way, wait 2 seconds, then close all the way again. Not sure why, but seems to be designed that way. My chickens have been in the coop for about 3 weeks, and at first, they got trapped outside, and required me to capture, and place inside at night. I found that by having a light inside the coop when it gets dark, has helped, and they go in when its brighter in the coop than outside. Then the light goes out automatically on a timer about an hour later. I hope the door holds up for a long time, but other than the timer limitations, and lake of template, I am please with the results. My girls love it when it opens at dawn, and they run out, then run back in, and sit by the door and relax each morning. ... show more

  • Time will tell
Seems like a great idea, but could be so much better if it came with an install template and better instructions. It also pause everything it closes, opens to 3/4 open and then closes. Seems like a problem with calibration that others have had as well. No adjustments can be made.

  • 8inch by 10 inch opening
The media could not be loaded. Could be a bit bigger like 10 inches by 15 inches. Photos make it look much bigger by making the chicken much smaller. In reality the chicken is as big as the door opening so they have to put their heads down and squeeze through. I do have Plymouth barred rocks which are bigger chickens but still, why not make it just a bit larger so they can just easily walk through like the phots show? Haven't installed it yet, still charging the battery with USB as it instructs for first time. Will install tomorrow. Hope my chickens can squeeze their fat asses through the opening. Installed now and works great except closes a bit too early on sensor mode. Would like to know if there is any way to adjust the closing with light sensor, it closes just before its actually dark and chickens are always shut out. If the light sensor started a 30 min timer at the time it actually shuts, it would close when dark and chickens wouldn't get shut out. I don't want to use the time setting to close since the time it gets dark changes. Updated with video. ... show more

  • You get what you pay for
Instructions are vague. Very lightweight construction. I don't expect it to last long.

  • This product failed to work
This product did not work at all. I charged it overnight as instructed by the instructions. Went outside tried to turn it on and it does nothing at all. Super frustrating. Super annoying. I would not recommend this product as it does not work properly at all.
