  • The BEST Bi-directional Scan Tool with easy updates and many features!
This scan tool has made my life easier in diagnosing issues with cars. Its ease of use and the ability to read VINS is awesome, it gives you all the information you need to troubleshoot and fix the issues. It has saved me a lot of money by not having to pay dealerships or other shops with the more expensive units to program keys and fobs, reset multiple systems, calibrate various items in various vehicles. it covers all brands of vehicles and their special functions that dealerships charge for. I love the automatic updates; the system tells you there are updates, and you just click install and it does it. I love the search feature on codes, and it takes you to the most prevalent video or web page for that issue. Great system I totally recommend!! You will NOT be disappointed! ... show more

  • Great device, tech support answered my question via email
So first off, I'm not a mechanic. But having an Audi A8, Mercedes AMG, and a few Acuras gets pricey for a diagnostic fee every time an error displays on the dash. I don't work on my own cars per se, but I would do something simple like replace a battery or an emissions hose. -- The first day I received the unit, I got it all setup. My MDX had a system error on the Tire Pressure TPMS and it's always a 79.95 fee to have them check anything at the dealership. So I walked around the vehicle in the TPMS mode, got close to each tire, and pressed TRIGGER. The sensors immediately responded, and the issue was that due the weather warming up, two of the tires pressure was too high. Instead of the car telling me that information, it just says System Error in the Dash. Shame on you Acura ! Anyway, the device tells me the pressure of the tires, the battery status and something else I don't remember at the moment. It will also let me clone my original sensors to new Autel replacements when my batteries do eventually fail. So the very first day, I saved 79.95 plus tax by pressing a button. The next two or three uses will have almost paid for it. The only downside is that the setup and creating an account is kind of lame. You have to do it on the website, you cannot do it from the application, though it says you can. That was my question to tech support. Within a few minutes I had a response explaining how to complete the process, and it is not clearly laid out when doing it the first time. Other than that, there are a lot of videos that show you the power of this device. I got the bluetooth version because I don't want to be tethered to a vehicle by a cable, but the next model down is a great bargain now too. Amazon did have the cheapest overall price by a few dollars because I'm a prime member. And I had it the next day. Competitors charged for shipping it was 7-10 days delivery, which is unacceptable in this day and age. I Love Amazon's delivery process. ... show more

  • Excellent unit for the price.
I am super impressed with my 808s. It has worked flawlessly, been able to read and access everything I have needed, and accessed even more than I thought it would. It's been durable and hasn't been scuffed badly even with me knocking off onto the ground on accident a few times. It's been able to locate errors and do tests even the OEM scanners haven't been able to locate on older vehicles (GM early 2000s). I haven't had a single issue with it. Just know that the screen likes firmer taps than a phone would, but that is normal on all ruggedized units, not just Autel's. This is my first autel product I have ever purchased, but it won't be my last. Previously I used Cornwell scan tools and paid for the yearly updates for about 10 years until its feature set was woefully outdated. Then I just made do for about 4 to 5 years with the lower level scanning functions before I had to get another high level scanner instead of just an obdII reader. ... show more

  • Great Scanner/Bi-directional Tester
You really can't beat this for the price. It's a good scan tool and bi-directional tester. It regularly receives updates for every brand of car I know of and then some. It also is easy to use and setup and gives you all the data you could want from every module in the car. Pretty much turn it on, plug in the VCI, and your off. It auto detects the vehicles VIN, so there's no messing around. Worked great recently figuring out which TPMS sensors were dead on my gf's car. The build quality is also very good, its a study tablet, and comes with a screen protector installed out of the box. Long story short, you won't be disappointed in one of these. ... show more

  • Could be much better with software improvements.
I purchased two scanners, The XTool D8 and the Autel Autel MaxiCOM MK808S-TS. I initially got the Xtool because of its price, but was a bit disappointed by its lacking of displaying data. Its got LOTS of data to display, but what I was looking for was specifically the status of the shift solenoids on my Toyota. It also seemed to have a tad slower data point record rate than the Autel scanner, so I decided to get the Autel and compare. This is what I found between the two. Both displayed the exact same data about my car, which leads me to believe the data I am looking for is either just not available ( which seems not the case since you cab bidirectional control them), or only available on more expensive scanners. This was good to know because now it just came down to which scanner to keep. What I like about the Autel: It looks great, has multiple USB ports on the top for charging, and an HDMI Port. Its also very well constructed. I also love the fact its got a place to hold the Bluetooth OBD dongle on the back of the scanner itself. That's where it stops. The plastic case has no hinges on it like the Xtool case does. Its a thin section of plastic which will for sure crack after so many open and closes and then the back will just always be flopping and it will never close. The tool itself seems to be of low end android hardware. Sure it may be the latest version of android, but the hardware its running on could be better. The interface is sluggish, the touch screen doesn't respond right away some times. Trying to swipe the screen to goto the next screen will sometimes register a finger tap and not a swipe and send you into a section you did not intend. Over all the UI is extremely lacking, and not sure if software updates can fix that. The Xtool is very fast, very responsive. The Autel software itself could be done better compared to the XTool I had as a reference. One issue I have with Autel is when doing a bidirectional test, before given the option to turn something On or Off, you get to pick some data points you also might want to monitor while actuating stuff. Well on this particular section, all the data points are arranged in a grid as buttons to click to select, and you have to swipe left and right to go thru like 20 - 30 pages of stuff. If you do not select something, you are not allowed to continue to just actuate what your trying to actuate. The XTool lets you actuate without monitoring anything else, and if you wanted to, you can easily scroll top to bottom in a nice laid out list format with check boxes. One single large scroll screen, not like the Autel where you have to swipe left and right across lots of pages. (This can easily be fixed with software updates). Another thing I noted was when recording the data, it was not recording everything I had selected. Monitoring them showed changes, but when playing back the recording, something were not captured. I'm not sure if this is a bug or what, but whats the point of not recording things you selected to record. "IF" Autel updated its software to be a bit more like XTool's, I might consider Autel over Xtool, but the sluggish hardware is a bit of a problem for me. Im not sure why Autel, despite the poor hardware, seems to record data points more frequently than the XTool. This really sucks for the XTool when trying to capture something and its just not logging fast enough. This seems it could be solved in software too. Since XTool has 3 years of free updates, and Autel only has One, I'm sticking with XTool in hopes future updates improves the record speeds. ... show more

  • Great All-In-One
I had bought four different scanners but this one is the one that is the most versatile due to the fact that it can do TPMS as well with their own sensors but also read any sensor. I was able to mess with a couple people's at work and even shut off some of our work trucks TPMS lights and then I was able to redo mine on my CRV because every time I rotate the tires it would turn on the light. I tested a few of the bidirectional controls and they work very well on a 2015 Chevy SS. I enjoy this more than any of the other ones, although some of the other ones had nicer screens and smoother controls. This one works better as all around. Highly recommend it. ... show more
