  • Everyone should have this
Color: Silver Style: Bluetooth
I received this as a gift and then immediately bought my parents one. They are amateurs when it comes to any technology and usually resistant but they love it. Never have to worry about giving someone access to your house in a pinch, can still use a key if your door phone isn’t available, and with the add ons, someone else can let you in if you are locked out. I don’t know what we did without this lock and I think everyone should have it ... show more

  • Unreliable; stopped working leaving my kids sitting on a doorstep
Color: Silver Style: Bluetooth
UPDATE: Spoke to customer support and they eventually determined that it was a defective lock and replaced it. The new lock is working great, but I now have all family members carry a spare key just in case. ———— Definitely have a backup plan in case the app and lock does not work, such as a lock box or just carry a physical key. (Even though that defeats the whole purpose of a smart lock.) My smart lock just stopped responding for absolutely no reason one day while my kids were at camp, leaving a 4th and 7th grader sitting on the doorstep waiting for a long time until I could get home. It was awful. The company told me, since it had been more than a year since I bought it that there is nothing they can do to fix this issue. There is nothing wrong with my physical lock, the app just randomly decided that I needed to recalibrate it, but I tried and it doesn’t allow me to. I spoke to customer support and they told me to do a factory reset and now it doesn’t even recognize the device. The company’s solution? For me to buy another lock, even though I did nothing wrong. Really disappointed in August. At the very least, they should have given customers a heads up if previous models were no longer going to be supported by their app. Because that’s what this seems like. Or they should have sent me a new one if mine was just defective. My poor kids were just left sitting on a doorstep because their product is not reliable. Not okay. ... show more

  • Not what was expected.
Color: Silver Style: Bluetooth
I have both the 3rd Gen Pro, Smart Lock and 1 bridge. I bought the smart lock and bridge back in November so I've had it set up and for a little over a month. I'm also working with a Samsung Galaxy S9 which has notoriously terrible Bluetooth connectivity. So here are some thoughts on these locks. 1. Buy the bridge. relying on Bluetooth alone will lead to you being locked out of your house. It's hard to say if it's the phone or the lock, but sitting here right now about 10 feet from my front door, I keep losing my connection to the lock. I also have to restart my phone to re-establish the connection to the lock that is not paired with the bridge. I find this more than just a little ridiculous. The lock that is paired with the bridge doesn't lose it's connection and thankfully, that's the door I use most often. So if you want to make sure you have a continuous connection to your lock, even when in your house and standing next to your door, you have to have the bridge. The Smart Lock - This feels like a legit dead bolt lock. It's easy to install and the set up was easy. I have no issues with the lock itself. Although I have had to re-calibrate the lock twice after just 1 month. The Smart Lock Pro - Feels a little cheap. For $200 it should feel solid when turning the cylinder to lock and unlock. However, it feels loose. I thought I might have just gotten one that wasn't put together correctly but found that the demo models in store felt the same way. This is the one that's not paired with the bridge and as such, it's more of a dumb lock than a smart lock. Sadly, you can only pair one lock per bridge, so i'm having to purchase another bridge in order to hopefully get this thing to work as it's supposed to. The App - The app is pretty straight forward. It's easy to share access to the locks with other people. Hopefully their Bluetooth works better than mine. The auto-lock function works well because it's just a timer. The auto-unlock function is garbage. I would say that it only works about 10% of the time. So before you buy these locks, imagine that you're coming home with arms full of groceries or a kid who really has to use the bathroom and your expecting the lock to recognize that a) you're within 200 feet of the door b) the door needs to be unlocked. You reach for the handle to find that neither of these things are true and you now have to fumble with your phone, open the app or fumble with your keys to manually unlock the door. Meanwhile you're dropping the eggs on the ground or the kid just went to the bathroom in his pants. Thanks August. So this aspect of the app needs a lot of attention. A 10% success rate is terrible. It also does not recognize that I have left the 200 foot perimeter. So at the moment, the auto lock / unlock feature is useless. The paired lock also works pretty well with Alexa. I will be keeping the locks installed in hopes that the performance improves, especially after adding the second bridge. I wouldn't buy these locks with high expectations of making your home any smarter or making sure that you get quick and easy access to you home in order to avoid accidents. After 1 month of ownership, I'd just say "buyer beware". ... show more
