  • Good spreader for homeowners, very easy assembly Good spreader for homeowners, very easy assembly
Our yard is about six acres. The lawn isn’t bad for the most part, but a few areas could be better. My husband had soil tests done. They showed the lawn needs lime, but the only spreader we had was a small, walk-behind drop spreader. We needed something that could cover more area, and I was happy to get this Augfir spreader to tow behind our smaller tractors. This spreader can be assembled by one person, but it’s easier with two. The instruction manual is excellent, but even better is the video showing the assembly. A QR code for the video is in the beginning of the manual, and I strongly recommend watching it. The hardware is sorted and bagged by step and clearly identified with a letter code, the type of bolt, and a line drawing showing where it goes. All of the tools you need for assembly are included, except for a pair of pliers. The bolt holes inside the hopper are hex-shaped, eliminating the need for a wrench to tighten the bolts. My husband was very impressed with all of this attention to detail. He said it was the best job of engineering assembly of a product that he’d ever seen. Assembly went very smoothly. We only ran into one hitch, and I can’t say if it was indeed a hitch, or maybe something unique to our particular unit. The axle was not symmetrical. Measuring from the body of the gearbox to the end of the axle, it measured 11-inches on one side, and 10 3/4-inches on the other. That 1/4 inch made a difference. With the gearbox/axle turned one way, the drive rod for the spreader disk was slightly off vertical. The other consequence to this, was that the notch in the reinforcing plate that attaches to the back of the frame wouldn’t line up with the drive rod. With the spreader turned upside down, and as viewed from the back, we turned the gearbox/axle assembly around so that the 11-inch side was to the left. Once we did that, everything lined up perfectly. So, that’s just an FYI. Everything else went smoothly. The photo shows the drive rod tilted before we turned the axle assembly around. The spreader comes with extensions for the hitch and control lever, so you can move it a little further away from the tractor. The hitch extension worked well for towing behind our John Deere X580, but the control lever extension hit the back of the seat when pulled forward in use. My husband said he could reach the lever without it, so he removed the extension. After trying the spreader out to apply lime to parts of our yard, my husband said it worked well. His thoughts were that it’s a good light-duty spreader for someone who only needs one occasionally, and that fits our use exactly. Other than this application of lime, we typically don’t use chemicals in our yard, and we’re not going to use a spreader to spread salt in the winter. This AugFir spreader is sturdy enough for our use. The hopper and broadcasting disk are heavy duty plastic, so they won’t corrode. The frame and other metal parts are powder coated, so they’ll resist corrosion with some care. This should be a good spreader for our use for a long time. ... show more

  • Works as intended Works as intended
Ugh! What a nightmare to assemble. Hubby said that there were a couple pieces that were already attached but had been put on backward so he had to disassemble it most of the way and correct them before he could get it completely assembled. The holes on the hopper did not fit easily with the ones on the frame Once assembled the spreader does appear to be reasonably durable provided the user takes care of it and it's kept covered or inside when not in use. The tires are really nice and contribute significantly to the units stability while in use. The assembly manual was a test in patience, they are extensive and difficult to follow. Once assembly was completed the unit is easy to attach to our john deer gator. I'm short so hubby will install an eye bolt in the end of the handle then attach a cable or rope for me to use to pull the handle without having to stop the gator and get out. It would have been nice to have a hole pre-drilled but not a deal breaker. All in all, as long as you are ok with exhaustive assembly this spreader is a decent value for a homeowners light duty useage. ... show more

  • Worth the purchase
Color: black
All the parts were present when I opened the box. Definitely read the instructions! Assembly was a bit challenging at first, but the assembly video was a huge help and made the process much smoother. Once it was together, this thing works like a charm. I love it! It’s a high-quality product that does exactly what it’s supposed to do. I’m so happy with it that I’ll be recommending this pull-behind broadcast spreader to my friends. A+ purchase! ... show more

  • Effective once assembled
I bought this tow-behind spreader to help manage the lawn work on my three-acre property, and while it performs well, the assembly process was a huge pain in the butt. It took quite a bit of time and patience to put everything together, so be prepared for a bit of a project before you can actually get out into the yard. Once I finally got it assembled and hitched to my mower, it worked exactly as it should. The large hopper capacity is a real time-saver for a lot of this size, and the flow control is consistent enough to provide even coverage across my grass. It handles the terrain well and is a solid tool for anyone with a large yard, provided you have the patience to get it set up. ... show more

  • 🚜 130 LB Tow-Behind Broadcast Spreader 🌱 Big Hopper, Less Refilling, More Riding
TL;DR: A sturdy 130 lb tow-behind broadcast spreader that covers up to 12 feet wide and works well with riding mowers, ATVs, and tractors. I've tried this broadcast spreader out and it seems sturdy and well made. Build quality is solid with a "powder-coated steel frame" and the value is pretty good for the capacity you get. Supposedly the five adjustable discharge ports combined with the trapezoidal hopper design spread material evenly up to 12 feet wide, which covers a lot of ground per pass and cuts down on how many laps you need to make 🌿 The 130 lb hopper is large enough that you won't be stopping to refill every few minutes on a bigger lawn, which is kind of the whole point of towing a spreader behind a mower in the first place. The universal hitch fits most riding mowers, ATVs, and UTVs, and the included hitch extender and handle extension rod let you open the hopper from your seat without awkward stretching. The 12.5-inch pneumatic tires handle grass, gravel, and uneven terrain without issue. One practical note the instructions actually call out: don't overfill the hopper, as it can affect spread consistency and put extra strain on the axle over time 🔩 ... show more

  • Good tow behind option -- somewhat questionable durability.
Overall, I'm happy with this spreader. Once assembled, it performs well and spreads material evenly across the yard. The large hopper capacity is convenient and reduces the need for frequent refills, making it a good choice for homeowners with larger properties. It fits a ton of material with minimal leaking when closed - and is stable even when towed on uneven terrain. The biggest downside is the assembly process. It took longer than expected, some parts felt a bit flimsy during assembly, and the overall construction feels somewhat lighter-duty than I anticipated for the price. While the finished product works as intended, it doesn't have the heavy-duty feel that the cost might suggest. That said, it attaches easily, operates smoothly, and gets the job done. Time will tell how well it holds up over the long term, but so far I'm satisfied with its performance despite the frustrating assembly process. ... show more

  • Easy to hook up and spreads really well
I really like how easy this was to put together. Once I had it assembled, I hooked it up to my ATV and started using it right away. It spreads a lot more than I could by hand, and the wider spread saved me a lot of time. The hopper holds plenty too, so I wasn’t stopping every few minutes to refill it. I used it around the yard and it pulled behind the ATV without giving me any issues. The flow control was easy to adjust, and it spread pretty evenly while I was driving. For doing seed, fertilizer, or anything like that over a bigger area, this made the job a lot easier. ... show more

  • Tow-Behind Spreader Has Crooked Gearshift Component - Unusable Tow-Behind Spreader Has Crooked Gearshift Component - Unusable
While it took a great deal of time and effort to work on setting up this spreader, I was on the last few pages of the instruction manual when I realized that the gearshift part does not have a perpendicular metal rod going up toward the bin as it's crooked (see photo attached to this review for reference). The spreader primarily consists of a black plastic bin, several metal components in a black finish, numerous hardware [including five allen wrenches] and a good size instruction manual that has fonts you can easily read. Other than the gearshift part, I believe the other components are in good shape, and I do like the sturdiness of the tread on the tires. The steps to put the spreader together are the time-consuming but not overly difficult. You will want to note that where my unit was no longer going to work involved the gearshift rod so I would highly recommend for you to take a good look at this part prior to starting to put your unit together as I was already a good two hours in when I realized this issue was not going to end up with a usable spreader. ... show more
